- In June's update I show you how I designed, planned and built the level crossing section of my layout. It took a month or planning, building, engineering and finishing, but now its here! Enjoy.

Super job Dave.
Hi Dave, stunning details as always. You must have the patience of Job; much akin to the the guy in the Taxi Cab who seems to be sitting at the barriers for at least 2 days and 2 nights. His fare may help pay for your next project at Dean Park Station LOL. Well done mate, love your work. James
Hi James, thanks! Yeah the taxi in the night scene is charging double fare for unsocial hours! That will pay for the next HST I buy lol. Dave.
Looks really good. Good to see that Dean Park City Council take such good care of their roads! Other councils could certainly learn a thing or two...
it looks very good in the dark
The lighting really makes for a great atmosphere - brilliant!!
Another top addition to the layout, really like the street lighting as well...great vid
Great job Dave, looks really good.
Great job love the detail 😀
Looking good, this is the first video I have watched of yours and your layout looks brilliant. Loving the fox next to the signal you moved, cool detail
More amazing attention to detail ,...fascinating layout
Stunningly excellent Dave. It just gets better and better. Cheers, Bob
That is looking really good. great bit of modelling
Looks great!
Lights are 'express models' items.
Layout amazing, Detail Amazing, a great layout
Anybody else notice that huge fox at 6:15? :D That looks absolutely brilliant. This is one of my favourite layouts, love watching it progress.. :)
lol, yeah the fox likes to prowl around the layout. Thanks for watching, glad you like it. Dave
The bridge scene looks fantastic. All the small details makes it look so realistic. Scott
Cheers Scott, you're right, the small things make it special. I love it! lol Dave
This is so impressive. I’m just starting in the hobby and the amount I learn from these video’s is amazing, thank you.
Thank you for saying that, really appreciate it. I am so glad you learn from my videos. That's really humbling. Thanks. Dave
Great level crossing looks really good mate .
Just finished watching video number 81 “ How To Build A Level Crossing “
I found your web site late, however, your attention to detail, professionalism and ability of consistently producing such a high level of finish is without doubt incredible.
However, I think you mentioned at some point you have two young children, so your wife should also take credit for her patience re the time required to produce this level of detail, not to mention the cost involved.
I like your altitude of “if its worth doing do it right” and you have certainly done that.
Regards
Allan
More impressive work Dave - lots of time and care has gone into the crossing and it really shows!
Cheers, yes a lot of thought and planning went in to this small piece of the layout....if I took as long with every other bit I would be working on this layout in 2080! - at the age of 103! Thank goodness there isn't that level of detail in every square foot of the layout!!! lol. Dave
Spot on that Dave loved and the APT-e going though banging layout m8 love it
Fantastic update Dave, well done and a great layout.
Cheers Pat, glad you like it. Dave
As usual a very detailed explanation describing your work on the layout with fantastic results. Robin
Cheers Robin, thanks for that. Dave
Very nice video.......and big respect from Zagreb/Croatia!
Just incredible attention to detail Dave, you just can't get anything more realistic than this in oo Gauge modelling...Amazing as always, and an inspiration to all modelers...Thanks again for sharing your skills ....Bob
Hi Bob, glad you like it, I am pretty chuffed with myself. I'm sure it could be done better, but in the space, material and skills I had to hand I have managed to get a well planned, neatly engineered crossing. Dave
Hi Bob, thanks for your comment on the Screaming Valenta upload. I have listened to others peoples comments re the saville advert and have decided that whilst I received no messages saying people were openly offended, they would like to see his voice removed. I will upload a new improved version tonight. Its sad we cannot enjoy the age of the train adverts without thinking of this man's evil acts. What a world we live in. Cheers. Dave
quality ,just quality Dave superb as always.
Stunning!
You've nailed it. That area just shows what can be achieved with planning and attention to detail. I was surprised to see how the road on the far side looks so natural in the close-ups, with a vehicle at the barrier to break the line of sight to the backscene, when it's so "absent" in the wide shots. Very clever. I've seen mention of a sports field for the corner and I think that would work well. Whatever you decide to do with the area I'm sure it'll look superb and I look forward to seeing it develop.
Cheers!
Hi ed, cheers for that. Yeah I am over the moon with the scene I have created. Dave
Another great video Dave, your layout is such an inspiration, and the attention to detail is amazing. Time for me to spend the rest of the afternoon in the loft working on mine! Keep up the great work, Cheers Tom
Lucky you....I was drying off after wasting 4 hours of my life getting soaked on a golf course! lol
lol :D
My first comment on Dean Park but have been watching your videos for a while now. A very well done on the progress on the layout so far, lots of love and affection put into all the work done. Only one suggestion, I may be wrong at most crossings I see now a days you see a control box/signal box or junction box of some kind and a telephone/communication mast near by, and it would take little space too so you add something else much larger. like I said just a thought Shaun
Hi Shaun, thanks for adding in your comment. ive still to add details to the right hand side, which will include relay boxes and telephone etc. Its on my list lol. Cheers. Dave
very impressed
Quality scenics there Dave. Looking very nice indeed! Green with envy over your APT...looks the business. She's got quite a snout on her.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yeah the APT-E is an impressive beast, with a big nose lol. Dave
love your layout man...
My favourite just got even better!! :D I just want to throw in a suggestion of a Leisure Centre / 5-a-side caged pitches in that corner. Every Fives I've ever played in had a railway near by and it would go great with the back scene. The council love to stick fitness things in the heart of the community. hehe. Brilliant! :D
Hi Craig, cheers for that suggestion, I shall add that to my list...but good idea for somewhere on the layout! Dave
What a great shout!
just seen this awesome job
Wow, so cool. Just started watching. Looks like I have 80 videos to catch up on.
Master craftsman.
Why thank you sir. You are too kind ;-) Dave
For roads signs and markings the document is the Traffic Signs Manual. The ORR produces a pamphlet on level crossings. The level crossing is s bit dodgy for pedestrians as they've got to step into the carriageway.
PS since forever they gave not used tarmac in level crossings between the outer edges of the sleepers on both sides. In the days of steam they used timber which by the 1970s was being replaced by concrete blocks. Thus allows easy access to the tracks for maintenance without having to dig out and replace the tarmac.
Great work Dave. it all looks fantastic. I agree with you on the road signs from Hornby, there is a lot better on the market. Thanks for the inspiration. Steve
Ancorton models are good for road signs, but they didn't have the ones I wanted (the crossing one) so I had to buy Hornby lol. Dave
Great video Dave. The roads in Scotland must be well maintained as I don't see any potholes ;-)
They are....lol. Its just been newly laid!!
I agree with your other comment Dave, excellent attention to detail, and skills. I have got a lot of inspiration from watching your videos, cannot wait until I get to the same points on my layout...Simon
Hi cheers. What other comment was that?, was it about the Screaming Valenta video?.....as I deleted it, in preparation for uploading a new improved one later, so if you commented on this I cant see it anymore lol. Dave
Hi, I meant comments such as the one below "...pure genius excellent work..."
Liverton -Simon Ah ok lol...thanks. I am humbled by what people comment about my layout. It really drives me forward to do more and keep building this large layout.
As for the 'Screaming Valenta' video....a new one is being uploaded for this evening. Cheers. Dave
Excellent work on the crossing Dave and moving the signal worked out OK after all which is good to see. To complete the scene I think it would be good to have some S&T chaps working there as suggested. seeing as the barriers are down all the time at the moment. A couple of Ten Commandments Relay Boxes (locations) to operate the crossing and another for the signal. Also there are often cattle grids at each side of the road to stop stray humans and animals deciding to take a short cut walking along the railway. Often made of triangular shaped wood which can be made from Plastruct.. Although my own crossing does not have those yet LOL. Ten Commandments also have road markings similar to the ones you have used. They are the ones I use and are very good. So worth a look if you cannot get more of the ones you used
s&t? not familiar with that abrieviation mate? Also replay boxes will be installed just to the right of the crossing as scenic work continues. Thanks for heads up on the other road markings. Also, cattle grids....yes I did have some corrugated plasticard, BUT I just didn't feel it looked right. And in the 1980's we were less health and safety obessed and many crossings didn't have any of them....so maybe ours can both be of that sort?! lol.
Ah sorry Signal & Telecoms department. They install and maintain anything to do with the signalling system including level crossings. P way (Permanent Way) department lay and maintain the track. Corrugated sheet would not really look right so a good decision not to use it. It would be a lot of work to use the plastruct to make them. That's why I have not got round to it. As you say our crossings can be of the less health and safety more common sense kind LOL. We had an incident where someone was given directions to turn left at the lights. The next set of lights was a crossing flashing red. So they turned left and managed to get around 20 feet before the car ground to a halt in the ballast. Damaging some cables and crossing equipment along the way. Lucky for them it put signals back to danger and the train managed to stop. In that case the cattle grids did not help. It is hard to protect against idiots like that whatever you do.
Nice one Dave, always a worthwhile video. Couple of comments on the crossing, the siren only sounds until the gates are down and some little red lights on the barriers, perhaps a fiber optic from a single led ?
Des.
ok, good to hear...as the siren was driving me bloody crazy, but the circuit board does not allow for automatic stopping of siren from the lights. I will look to put a manual switch in at some point. Dave
Terrific work as usual Dave. You've gone to a lot of trouble there, lots of multi-coloured spaghetti......lol........Looks great though, and the drain covers just blew me away...........David
Hi, yeah they are a neat little touch. Langley models supply them. Dave
Love the vidio, the layout is looking great. You should put In a concrete footbridge for pedestrians next to the crossing. All the crossings in my area have a foot bridge or underpass. It would also add a scenic break to the upper circuit. Ps I went back and watched all your previous vids so I am court up now. Keep it up. James
Hi James, thanks for the comment and kind words. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. I hope you continue to watch, as its guys like you that I do the videos for. I thought about the footbridge, but when sizing it up, it would have to start on the road bridge and it just looked a bit daft when I looked at it. So I had to make do with white-lined walkways. Space is always a factor I suppose! Cheers. Dave
Very effective Dave, well done. You could also add a couple of equipment boxes either side for the crossing and a S&T vehicle and working on the crossing. As the bloody things constantly broke down. I remember as a young Guard having to direct traffic over a crossing till the Old Bill turned up. How long will it be before the warning siren drives you around the bend and you disconnect it? LOL. Once again very good Dave.
Just wondered where you purchased the BR cabinet it's a nice touch thanks Mark
Hi! The Cabinet? The green one? That's a telephone junction box and is from unit models. Pack of 2. Made from resin. you get them painted or unpainted. I got the unpainted as they were cheaper and easy to paint with some spray paints etc. Dave
From The Dean Park Gazette:
A Dean Park Residents Association representative complains at continuing pedestrian attrition at the level crossing above Dean Park Station. "It's been more than three years now and still pedestrians are put at daily risk having to step out into on-coming traffic".
"It's all about the car, a person can't take their bagpipes out for a wee bit of a walk without taking their life into their hands. A white painted line is not as secure as a proper pavement, and local drivers regularly ignore them. There is one red-haired youth who actually flew his ancient Ford Anglia over my head to avoid me, and I hadn't had a dram for weeks…"
"OK, so before the barriers went up it was a bit more dangerous, but now they obstruct the walkway and we have to step out. And all for the cost of a couple of inches of plywood."
"The drain covers are very lovely though!"
Another local resident, a student, pointed out that not much traffic used the road as it seems to terminate in a large field. He joked, "It's only my flying car that can cope with the conditions".
We blame the quantities of cheap alcohol students get in their heavily subsidised bars.
British Rail declined to comment…
But seriously Dave, beautiful work.
And I even thought the barriers were going to operate electrically! Looks good though.
Brilliant job on the bridge and level crossing! It really has finished that bit off to a treat. I do hope you have a switch for turning off the sound to the level crossing though, I could see that getting rather irritating going off every 2 minutes lol.
Cheers, Michael
Hi....no switch, but I have a small screw driver handy to unwire it.....that will happen shortly!!!! its annoying. I just did it for the purpose of the video. Every 2 minutes?....try every 30 seconds! lol Dave
Hi absolutely magnificent layout, I always enjoy your updates and I think this is one of my favourites, the working lights on the level crossing and the attention to detail are superb. Have a question, can you tell me which scale scenes sheets you used for your walling, there great. Cheers Kev.
Hi, thanks and glad you like this particular video. The brick is ASHLAR. Its pretty good and realistic in my opinion. It suits my Scottish Waverley themed station area. Dave
Amazing level of detail wish i had you skills, I have just a layout finally fixed down, have a shed load of metcalfe buildings, lots of green mats, and scatters with various fixings. Just in the process of connecting my signals, but nothing as complex as yours. My first layout so just using two aspect connecting to cobalt ip point motors. using a separate dc bus for signals and for using for lighting later too.
sounds cool. will you be videoing it? Dave
Looks superb.... Really good job that... Out of interest where did you get the green Bt cabinet and the man hole covers? Cheers Mark
Nothing more than fantastic , if you could build a house in the corner I'll rent out and live there, it is real the real world isn't it?
lol, £450 per month rental suit you?
Nice update. One thing that doesn't get the recognition it deserves is your woodwork. Everything is so neatly cut and the fit is always good. Going back a few videos you can notice it as you build the upper levels. What do you cut it with, do you have some sort of band saw? Anyway. Another half hour well spent :)
Hi, I have access to a band saw at times yes. Its much neater than a jigsaw. But I just like to take my time and make sure its all neat....good layouts are built on good foundations and frames, or so I am told lol. Dave
The finest wet and dry paper makes good tarmac
Looks fantastic, was wondering if u get fed up with the siren noise. Cheers
In one word - YES! I am fitting a manual switch for the siren so I can stop it going off unless shooting videos etc.
Man, i love your work, even do i only use n scale ! But would love to have seen, how you did all this !! Greetings from Amsterdam
Hello Amsterdam, Scotland calling lol, thanks for your comments. So glad you like what I do. Dave
Excellent video and great little details like the drain covers and nicely done level crossing. Nice to see one that's very/almost level rather than the usual steep hill on both sides. It looks good in operation day or night, but I'm afraid that siren would drive me up the wall! Have you installed an off switch? ;-) Great progress too - been too warm in my loft for comfortable work this week....well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Cheers, Davie
Hi Davie, its getting too warm up my loft too, so I was really pushing to get this finished before my enforced summer break lol. (plenty of ply backboards to sand, fill and paint in prep for more backscenes in the autumn during the summer!) Yeah I tried to get it to a gentle slope on both sides. Regarding the siren....not on off switch, just a small screwdriver to unscrew it from the circuit board lol. It gets right on my tits I can tell you. Luckily I decided to go for manual operation of the lights and siren, so I wont have them flashing every 20 seconds....that would do my head in as well as the shriek from that ruddy siren! Dave
Nice to see the APT-E at a bit of speed too at the end
how did you do the road markings and yellow lines ? looks very good
hi, they were from modelrailwayscenery.com, but are now sadly discontinued. They are very easy to use. Dave
Looks brill Dave very effective, will the barriers lift up and down with the lights Andy
Hi. No, no room under there for 4 servo motors etc....limited space. Not that bothered about it though.
Looks great 😊 Our local crossing has angled, wooden "anti pedestrian" slats between the rails to stop people walking up the railway. Dont know if thats something you get in Scotland or a bit too fiddly for a model railway.
Hi. Yeah you can buy detailing parts for that. But looking back there wasn’t as much of that kind of thing in the 1980’s, people had more common sense back then 😆
@@DeanPark they definitely did 😄
Absolutely brilliant mate, as always. One question, where did you find the grates for the road and the telecoms boxes mate, never seen either on a layout before and they look great.
Hi drain covers langley models. Tel boxes are Unit models. Dave
Great layout and i enjoy watching every new post but one thing that bugs me that might just be me. The road ends at the back scene and personally doesn't look right the way it is. Wouldn't it look better if you had the road leading into a tunnel of some sort ??
Wow you have been mega busy in June and accomplished so much well done Dave it looks brilliant hopefully Hornby magazine will be coming to you after being at Everard junction. Can I ask a question about your level crossing lights. "Did you put sensors in the track to control the lights and do they come will all the delay functions ie Amber to red then off??" Cheers Mark
Hi, thanks for that feedback. I think Hornby will want me to complete a bit more of the layout before they come knocking. They have approached me to send photos in....I will be doing so shortly. I never put sensors in as the express models barrier lights use relay/reed switches which are activated by magnets stuck to the underside of locos. Firstly I didn't want to stick magnets to all my locos and I didn't always want every train triggering that bloody siren every 20 seconds lol. I just use manual push switches as supplied with the express models kit. The circuit board they supply does all the work....its really simple to wire up too! I would recommend it. Not cheap, especially if you get another set of lights to make up the 4 sets like I have. But I think its worth it! Dave
Fantastic work Dave. I've a few questions; firstly what gauge is your layout? Secondly, are you planning on making the barriers operate and if so, could you please film it as I would love to do the same and lastly, can you recommend any good O gauge semaphore signals?
Hi, I'm 00 gauge and no moving barriers....not got the room under that section to fit 4 servo motors etc. I had to compromise. Dave
Hi Dave, great update and love the crossing, super quality. Just wondering about your layout tour pt two, I suggested some things to add in your "phase 4". I just don't want my comment to go to waste as I didn't know if you received it. If you don't mind, can you spare a couple of minutes to read it. Cheers, Brad.
hi, did you message me privately or via the video? I will have read it I am sure...I take a note of suggestions, but I get so many I forget too. Cheers. Dave
+DaveClass47 it's fine we all make mistakes ;-) it's a video comment on your layout tour pt. 2 cheers, Brad

Brad Wright ok cool.. I will check it out. I prob have a note of it but will double check!
That noise would drive me crazy
Hi Dave, your planning and detail are just first class which is echoed in the result. If I can just add a thought, has the road just been resurfaced or have you yet to include the typical bit that one of the services dug up and re-laid badly (sometimes). Barry. Devon
Hi Barry, in this case I thought I would do 'new road surface' look. When I do my town scene (opposite end of station) then I will do more pot holed, worn road markings etc. Watch this space, I might get around to doing the town in 2020 at this rate! lol
Excellent crossing, was the plasticard easy to cut to size? I am building a level crossing for my N gauge layout.
Hi, yeah easy to cut and file. give it a go! Cheers. Dave
Thanks Dave, I will give it a go!
Dave,
Do lampposts simply wire into the auxiliary bus wires - that Is, the same bus as your point motors etc. I've bought some that come supplied with a resistor but I have to solder it in place my self. Any ideas if that is straightforward to do. Cheers.
Hi, the lamp posts go in to my 12 16v bus wire. I had to solder a resistor in place before wiring it up or the LED would get damaged. Cheers. Dave
Not sure if you mentioned it before but where did you buy the brick wallpaper from for your brick retaining walls?
The ones for the tracks not for the road you made in this video
Both are Sclaescenes papers....ashlar stone.
All I got to say is pure genius excellent work but could I suggest how about a more commercial scene in that corner maybe some offices or something along those lines?
Hi, thanks for suggestion. Factories or warehouses, offices will appear at some stage of this layout. Dave
Hi Looking For Help Please
I think it was the previous video that the focus was on wiring.
Can you please tell me the name of the wire connection clips that has been used throughout your layout combined with where they were purchased.
Looks like these have been used instead of soldering wires to the main bus wires. As I am not being very good on electrics I can see the time advantage in using these wire clips, however, is the power maintained or is solder more secure ? - Please advise.
Kind Regards
Allan
GREAT IDEA with the level crossing Dave . question how is it wired up mate............................regards tony
Hi, its all wired in to the circuit board to wire up the flashing lights, or for the street lights is wired in to the 12v bus wire. The wires are fed through the underside of the road/ramp areas and carefully fed into terminal blocks and then to the power wires. A delicate operation!
cheers dave.......................tony
Very cool. Though that tone can get unnerving quickly at the crossing. I'd almost rather put movable arms that auto activate, keep the lights and ditch the sound.
On the road after it crosses, do. you have any plans for making it disappear into the scenic backdrop ? I suppose I'll find out as I watch the next years worth of videos to catch up tithe present day. My instinct is put. Fragment of a backdrop with a hill that covers the house as there and out a tunnel entrance that enters the hill.
No room to have servo motors under it as it was near the track underneath. this was all considered in the planning stages. Also, access for maintenance is a issue at this part of the layout. The road disappearing is a tiny issue that I have yet to find a suitable resolution to which doesn't looked like an after thought or just plain messy.
Dave very good update I do like the level crossing.Just one thing I have been tormented with on my layout and you have the same where does the road go after the crossing away from the station,I want to do the same but not sure it will look right with the road just stopping? As you are well into the model buying could you tell me if they ever ade some coaches in the swallow livery that match the livery on the trains on the Firefly I have got the intercity 125 coaches are cream but the train is in white?Any help please
Hi, about the road...I plan to put two tall vehicles on that side of the crossing to hide the fact it goes nowhere....but where does any road go in 00 gauge land? lol. Its the same when a road comes out the front of the baseboard, as is the case on the other side of the crossing. You just have to accept that its just a snap shot of a model world and imagine where it might take you. lol
As for the coaches. Class 47's generally pulled MK1-MK3 stock, but by the time Firefly was in the Swallow livery it would more than likely handle MK2D/E/F air conditioned coaches. Hornby produce MK2E in the swallow livery. Bachmann announced in 2013 they were doing the MK2F variants, with DCC lighting etc. Now while Hornby's are very good and priced at around £25, the Bachmann ones promise to be highly detailed items, for which I suspect they may be well over £40 EACH! Bearing in mind the number of coaches in a common rake being pulled by Firefly etc were 6-9 coaches, if you get the Bachmann ones you'll be well over £300 for just a rake for one train....ridiculous I know!!!! As for the MK3 Intercity 125 coaches in Swallow. These have intercity beige on the lower sides of the coaches, just like all of the othr MK2d/e/f''s have too. The thing is the sides of the locos in Intercity Swallow are indeed white. This is what they should be, the coaches were always beige. So there is nothing wrong with running the two together. Earlier variants of the Inter-city red/white stripe loco livery had beige on the lower sides of the locos, but the more attractive, more modern INTERCITY Swallow had white, even the HST's had white sides. Sorry for the essay length reply....but I hope it helps? I have the MK2E coaches from Hornby. They are excellent. PLUS, some are going for as little as £17 each on hattons. check this link www.ehattons.com/stocklist/1000389/Hornby/BargainByManufacturer.aspx Dave
Hi, what type of contact adhesive and paper do you use to stick down your scale scene walls? Mine have started bubbling!
3M Spray mount. Dont use cheap stuff as it will fail....I found that out to my cost earlier on. A good coating of that and press down, works fine. Its permanent adhesive but you get a minute to slide things before it sets. I get mine from amazon.
Thanks. What is procedure for soldering in a resistor? Where exactly did you put it? I'll have to do same.
I wire the resistors as per instructions....some leds have the resistor on the +ve, other the -ve. If you check out the May update I THINK there is some chat about wiring....if not look closely at this vid and you'll maybe see the resistors on the wires. Dave
Where do you find the material for the level crossing, I was going to use modeling cement or whatever it's called but the plastic sheeting looks much easier and cleaner
Hi, its just plasticard, primed and painted. I get my plasitcard from Antics. I use a selection of 0.75mm, 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm sheets. I think this is 0.75mm used here. Its soooooo much cleaner than plaster/poly filla or other messy liquid methods. Hope this helps. Dave
did you use the heathcote level crossing module or express - asking as you said you use heathcote signal modules but got the crossing lights from express models.cheers
Hi I got the Express Models one as I didn't not have the space under the raised baseboard for the servo motors for working barriers. All other electrical stuff for signals is Heathcote. Cheers. Dave

hi, they are from Rapid electronics. They are called Davico DS 2M Crimp Blade Splice Code: 33-0190 and Davico ERPO 63M Red 6.3mm Male Tab Connector Pack of 100 Code: 33-1057 Hope this helps.
Many thanks for your info, I have now purchased those clips.
Would you have a list of all the Railmatch paints and types you have used please. I appreciate its down to layout design and personal choice, however, as I am building a loft layout also I really like the colours etc you have used.
I have almost caught up now, about to watch number 108 and every one has been amazing to watch, how proud you must be, well done.
Regards
Allan
Hi Allan. I use Railmatch enamels throughout. Railmatch sleeper grime for the sides of the rails and sleeper tops. Then go down centre of the tracks with Roof Dirt to give it the oily colour and it also helps tone down the sleeper grime as well. Cheers, thanks for watching all of my videos too. Dave
David, many thanks for your quick response, very much appreciated. Your answers are perfect thanks.
Its a pleasure to watch them all. Also started to take notes from various recently watched videos in order to remember pointers for my own layout.
Regards
Allan
Hi Dave how come the road from the bridge over the crossing stops just past the crossing then all you see is grass surely the road would have carried on and not just stop dead , but otherwise great layout so far keep it going cheers Alan
Hi Alan. This was a tricky one.
There is no tidy way to resolve this issue. Putting a road tunnel in would looked weird, a stick on road going in to the distance was considered, but look daft.
There has to be a trade off with backscenes where it meets the layout. I’ve managed to negate 99% of these transitions but this one is best partly hidden by parking a van awaiting to cross the rails.
Really glad you like the layout and thanks for watching the stuff I upload.
Cheers
Dave
Me from Scotland to
What's the link to the doc u mentioned. Wood the level crossing not have a yellow box over it for only enter when the exit is clear
not always
not on the photos I used for reference, no.
+DaveClass47 cool
Is there a name for the plastic card you used for your roads? Thanks
Hi Styrene sheet. I get it from Antics, online shop! They do varying thicknesses from 0.25-2mm in A4 sheets in white, black, clear and textured. Cheers. Dave
Where did you get the working level crossing lights?
express models.
what did you use to add the lines on your road
Who's back scene did you use?
ID Backscenes. Check out my previous videos....I cover that in some detail last autumn. Cheers.
Where do you get the signal crossing flashing lights
Thomas Model Railways hi these are from
Express models .co.uk
Shouldn't the lamps be closer to the curb
Hi, Nope, thats how they appear on the vast majority of pavements. I check the department for roads guidelines. Some (on 40mph roads and greater are closer to kerb in some cases, but for built up areas the guidelines show that they are set back from the kerb.
hi what is this plaster card, carnt find it anyware..thx mark..
Plastic card. Its plastic, not plaster. Some time referred to as 'plasticard'. Its made from styrene plastic.
hi cheers, thx for that.found it on ebay now..thx mark.
for the pantographs instead of spending money on wires wwhy dony you just use fishing rod thread? :)
I was thinking the same.
Maybe you could add in an arrow for the double white lines at the crossing like this www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2916244?
Hi, thanks for that suggestion and link to the pic. I will see what vinyl's I have left. I don't want it looking too cluttered, but will have a look. Cheers. Dave
Brilliant job there Dave very realistic top marks to you sir.
Thanking you sir! Dave
