Here's how I turned a basic Peco plastic level crossing kit into a realistic feature for my model railway.

Very nice result, I'm impressed by the method. Greetings from The Netherlands.

Glad you like it. Hopefully some transferrable methods for your project. B

I like the idea of the stone effect paint

The stone effect spray is really useful for a quick foundation to ballasting. I think the colour is 'Manhattan Mist'. Just be a bit careful to build up gradually - it can tend to soak card and paper if you don't leave it to dry off a bit between coats.

I have never thought of a layout just in a loop. Must be a pain to get anything on the track without a railer!

We've run a simple loop around our Christmas tree for a couple of years now, and I thought it was time to turn this into a proper mini layout - hence the donut ring design. I also wanted something I could get out quickly just to run trains with minimum set-up at any time.

@@paterpracticus Well, must be quite fun then setting it up. Next time you could try a modular layout or a fold-up one, or even do N gauge! But I do suppose it is your choice and is a very nice one at that.
