  • Taking a walk for as long as you can is good. even if you feel like crap. the sun has a natural ability to give you a pickup. So if you can, just walk a little.

Hey Nick! Susan Suarez here! I'm using my daughters account because my cellphone is down a the moment. Geez, where does the time go? I can't believe it's been just over a month since your last update so I just wanted to send you a quick message to let you know I'm thinking about you & really hope you're doing alright! You're in my daily prayers Nick, sending you positive energy & wishing that you have finally received some long awaited good news that you deserve!
I haven't been feeling well lately either, the heat here in Toronto is unbearable! I've had 4 tests recently & getting the results on July 30th. I had a chest x-ray, EKG, mammogram & an echocardiogram on my heart since I've been having some unusual chest, neck, jaw & back pain recently. Overall I'm tired all the time, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping & just a general feeling of being unwell. Oh & I had Covid for the first time in June! I feel like I'm still recovering from it as I still have some lingering symptoms.
I just found out a few days ago that my Liver Specialist is closing down her practice here in Toronto & heading out to California to start her new practice there & she will be continuing to do more research on Cirrhosis of the liver & liver cancer. I'm so bummed out about this as she was a fantastic Doctor to me, she would call me at home to check up on me, no other Doctor has ever done that for me. Have you experienced this Nick? Losing a Doctor that you really connect with? You know I'm in Canada so the medical treatment & process is totally different than in the USA. I was just assigned the various Doctors that I needed for my care, I had no say in who they assigned me. Am I correct in saying that you yourself get to pick & choose your Doctors? Our Healthcare system is free here in Toronto but trust me it has it's flaws in the system.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon Nick & I'm really hoping that you will be able to share your amazing news with all of us here that love & care for you! I've said it a hundred times but I'll say it again, thank you, thank you & thank you for creating this channel that gives me a safe place to talk about my liver disease. Believe it or not, I still have people in my circle that don't fully comprehend my disease & will ask me, "when are you going to get better Susan?" My response is always the same, I'm NOT going to get better, I'm managing my disease until it comes to the point where I need a liver transplant. Some even think that you can reverse stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver, fibrosis & NASH. It's simply NOT true! If that were the case then we would have 0 people on the waiting list for a liver transplant! Am I right Nick? Or what I say to people to make them understand is: If you're diagnosed with cancer, you don't get better from cancer. You have treatment, hopefully go into remission, pray that it doesn't spread & manage your health daily. I was rejected to participate in an experimental study with a new medication called Rezdiffra otherwise known as Resmetirom. I'm curious to know if you've heard of this new drug & it's possible positive treatment for people with Cirrhosis of the liver. They said that I didn't qualify for the drug because my liver wasn't "bad enough" to try. So what now? I have to wait for my scarring to get worse? For my MELD score to decline further? For my liver to fail me even more before I can give it a try? Every 3 months of having ultrasounds & having the Doctor tell me, no liver cancer yet Susan but be ready because it's only going to get worse in the future. What am I waiting for? Waiting for the day when the Doctor says, Susan we found the cancer & now you will have to have micro-ablation to remove it? Why? I had become hopeful when Dr. Ma first told me about this drug & I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up like I did but I never thought for a minute I would be turned down? I mean I was willing to experiment with a drug in hopes that it might help me improve the quality of my life, is that so bad?
My Disability application was also rejected & I'm told that they reject everyone the first time, even terminal patients with cancer. What world do we live in where the Government automatically rejects Disability applications? I've never been so disappointed in the Canadian Government as I am now, it's a sickening reality for so many people here. I can't even comprehend how you were rejected Nick considering you were given only 3 mths to live & sent home from the hospital to die? I thank God & Kerri everyday for caring for you & getting you back on your feet. You are nothing short of a miracle Nick! Boy were the Doctors wrong about you! You really showed them eh?! You inspire me Nick to keep going forward when there are days I feel like I can't go on like anymore, that hopeless feeling in the pit of your stomach that tells you, "your days are numbered" just accept your fate.
I'm so grateful & thankful each day that you are still here with us Nick & fighting the good fight! It shouldn't have to be this hard, especially where a person is sick. Where has the compassion gone? Are we all just a number in the system? Something has to change!
I know I went on a rant but this is the only place I have where I get to speak freely without judgement & I thank you Nick for this space.
Sending you a big hug & prayers for your health. Say hi to Kerri for me & I hope she's doing well herself!
    Your friend always,
    Susan Suarez XXOO

Living in the South of the UK and its about 22c here and I find it not to bad walking on flat ground, its hills I struggle with but I can travel on bus journeys to the coast where my grandparents took me about 30 years ago about 12 miles away, that costs me £2 which I think is about $ 2:50. Its a nice way to see scenery and grab an iced cream.

Resume through the nose and excel out through the mouth as you're doing your walk. If you get dizzy or lightheaded, bend your torso downwards with a hand on the knees so that your head is about even with your heart. The dizziness should go away that can come from dehydration or you could come from other things more serious like high blood pressure or whatnot. Usually it's dehydration when I've felt these things before. It helps quickly when you do just stop and bend over your body with your hands on those knees. If you're at home just put your hand on a counter and do the same thing. I'm not trying to ask like a know-it-all but I'm just giving suggestions that have helped me and have helped my dad when we feel light-headed. The hardest part is breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth because we're never told this for the most part in Western culture. I was never told that when I was a little kid
