    Ive got one of these ..went through 3 mainboard replacements & multiple cloggs - used original software & cura but never got anything out of it in any decent form - switched to a K1 & have printed off more complete models in the couple of months ive had it than the year of struggles with the cetus - this printer has so many issues & shouldnt have been released to the public - buyer beware !

    I'm glad you stood true to yourself! Too many 3D print channels seem to exist now just to review and praise mediocre or downright garbage products. Keep it up!

    Some prototypes were sent to reviewers about 14 months ago but the printer was not complete and neither was the slicer, some reviewers got units a couple of months ago and one that I watched had massive layer separation issues, however, that was due to making some changes in the slicer settings, after returning to the stock profile it printed just fine, although multiple different prints were not shown so it didn't really have time to develop the issues you had.
    That ribbon cable looks like an old floppy drive cable!

    Thank you for this excellent review. I have never owned a Cetus or Tiertime printer, but I recall that Angus from Maker's Muse really liked some of the Cetus printers he tested years ago. I hope that Cetus can iron out the bugs of this one, because the printer looks like it has potential. And I think that Qidi Tech proved that it is possible to re-work and successfully re-issue a printer after a bad launch, like they did for their X-Plus 3 and X-Max 3. I hope that Cetus can do the same with this one. And BTW, you have a new subscriber.

      Thanks for watching and for your thoughtful comment. It was definitely interesting how Qidi handled that situation. Other manufacturers could learn from their example.

    This is more exciting to me from the perspective of no gap supports using a different plastic rather than multicolour printing.

    If this came out before the Bambu AMS I'd be interested, warts and all. But I can't go back to just two colors, even with partial mixing. If the Cetus 3 is 4-color I'll be more interested. Appreciate the thoughtful and thorough review, though.

    • @ygk3d
      @ygk3d  Před 10 měsíci +3

      Bambu changed the game… hard to go back after that. If Bambu came out with a color mixing printer I bet that would be a game changer too, especially if it could mix more than 2 colors, or have the mixing be more thorough.

    • @paulthetexan
      @paulthetexan Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@ygk3d That would be great. I'd have to seriously consider buying one if they could figure out the mixing. The CMYk kit *kinda* does it, specifically for lithophanes, but it's very limited and honestly doesn't give great results. It also results in a LOT of purging. If they can improve the process, though, you'd only need 4 filaments to make pretty much any color. And it would be amazing. I would love to be able to print color pictures, especially if you could add them to the surfaces of prints. I think that might be a bigger leap forward than the x1c was and I think that was the biggest improvement in 3d printing in years.

    Wow, this 3D printer seems like a time-travel experiment straight out of 2012, when we all had those 'figure out how the machine works' moments! It's like the manufacturer was sitting there too, scratching their head, thinking, 'Well, it's got buttons and wires, let's see what happens!' Let's just say it's a futuristic blast from the past, where the user manual was apparently written in invisible ink! 😄🕰

    Nice idea to implement dual color this way, but obviously need some work. The two heater blocks look very tiny! This way it will never be a fast printer (probably is not intended to be one)

    I'm surprised to see a glass bed on a new printer.
    This looks like a neat idea, but definitely needs a lot of fine tuning before it's ready to compete with other options.

    Even when it looked to be working those prints looked like crap. I wouldn't pay $50 for this thing taking the chance that I am going to have to fix any quality issues and deal with bad prints. Great review, glad you gave an honest review.

    The whole color mixing acting like co-extrusion is why color mixing has yet to reach mainstream printers. Somebody will have to figure out a technology to make mixing work properly - but until then, I don't think we'll see it in Bambu, Prusa, Creality, or any other mainstream manufacturer.

  • @anon_y_mousse

    I had one of these machines also for review. I found the software extremely buggy, the extrusion and print quality totally inconsistent, had several hardware issues that needed replacement parts. I had spent way too much time and effort on this printer, an eventually sent it back. Not a good experience at all.

    • @ygk3d
      @ygk3d  Před 10 měsíci

      This is the issue with accepting printers for review. Sometimes it’s way more work than it’s worth. I could see this type of unit being sent to beta testers, but it’s not nearly ready enough to be sent to reviewers.

    The first Cetus came out in 2016 if I recall correctly, and had some cool features. I'm very surprised you never heard of it or their parent company. Referring to direct drive as new tech, is not correct. My first and all of my other printers are direct drive. My first one I bought about 10 years ago.
    What 3D printers have you had? I think a lot of people just know about prusa, Bambu Labs, and Creality, but there has been and are lot's of other choices, and some have been using direct drive for many many years.

    • @ygk3d
      @ygk3d  Před 10 měsíci

      I wasn’t intending to imply that direct drive is “new”, but it is a more modern technology than Bowden extrusion. It’s also generally perceived to be better, though Bowden extrusion does have its benefits.
      Cetus is definitely one of the lesser known brands in the industry. I just hadn’t happened to have heard of them before.
