BROKEN Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch - REALLY Want to Fix This One! I bought this broken Animal Crossing Special Edition Switch on eBay for $212. The Switch is in really nice condition but the seller said it wouldn't charge. So I'll be taking it apart to see what is wrong and what I need to repair.

Did TronicsFix just like my comment?
@@Qwer_t_y__ No, that wasn't me but I'll go like it right now!
My switch dock is not working good
It displays on the tv one time then the next time it doesn't any ideas how to fix it
I can't fathom buying a broken piece of electronics for hundreds of dollars...
I know he's a wizard at fixing stuff, but what a risk.
I don't recommend it for most people. I can fix most of them but even if I can't fix them I get to make a video about it that will pay for it and then some. I'm in a much different position than most people.
You noted you've been taking editing classes and I think you can definitely see a unique style being developed in your videos. I like how you embrace the organic growth of your voice through this channel and its really awesome watching you fix things. Thank you for everything you do
Hey thanks! I appreciate that.
I really need to get some editing classes in. It's holding my channel back.
@@packlesswolf1 it's not just the editing that's holding your channel back
Totally agree, loved how you went into detail about what you were doing / why you use flux. My favorite part was the tossing the pieces back in though, haha!
@@SmokelessMeme lol I have way more views than you do. What a bum trying to tell me like that.
i feel bad for the seller who got their hands on this thing only for it to be defective and felt they just had to sell it away. glad you saved it pretty easily though.
I'm really enjoying the editing of tossing parts to them being installed. Cleans it up and cuts the fluff
So glad you liked that part. It's fun to edit like that once in a while. I should do it more often.
@@Tronicsfix If only it was that easy IRL LMAO. The computer I built in January still has it's fan cables sticking out the back. The computer works great, but it's technically not done. lol
@Sonic Mobian While that looks cool it still requires too much work. This throwing stuff into place is even lazier. LMAO
That was pretty sick
An Animal Crossing Switch was saved!!!! This is why being able to repair stuff is such a good skill to have!!! :D
Yep. I would have hated to see this one go to waste
i have this switch!!!! its so awesome!
Watching these repairs inspires me to learn how to repair my own devices that are broken.
Love hearing this!
That was such a clean repair, as usual Steve.
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it.
i love how you snapped the switch back together like magic! great editing work! nice switch too!
Glad you liked that part! It's fun to do stuff like that.
I don't know why, but it was amusing to see you edit the reassembly like that! Simply "throwing it back together" was a nice touch! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked that part!
There is something very satisfying every time you fix a broken Console. Gg once again.
I bought this Switch for my wife when they came out and I love those joycons. They feel slightly softer to the touch. I use her dock in the living room and she uses mine in her office. It's a nice set.
I agree. It's a really nice looking special edition
The edition is amazing. But I'm sure the joycons will stop being soft after a few weeks use. They're all soft when brand new, but get worn out fast :(
@@medvidekmisha Going on a couple months now and no changes. It's just as soft to the touch as it was new. Just beat Metroid Dread with them too.
@@medvidekmisha i have this switch too and i’m pretty sure the actual plastic used is different. the animal crossing joycons are smoother to the touch than the regular ones and i’ve had my console since it was released last march.
5:55 LMAO I cracked up when you tossed all of the components on the device 🤣 Great work btw!
Ha, ha, glad you liked that part!
This was a great vid Steve.
I really liked how you broke down more of the what you were doing and why.
I’ve torn a few Switches apart, but have no idea which chip is which.
Great info.
Weird that this one failed so soon. But awesome that you could fix it easily enough 👍🏻
You are so good at throwing these back together.
Lol, thanks!
Great video, I don’t typically watch repair videos because the poster usually tries to fit too much info into one video and it gets boring for someone who doesn’t know. You definitely have the right balance with your style.
Yours are some of the most satisfying videos I've watched. In a world of "throw away and buy new" it's refreshing. Nice work!
Wasnt expecting a video! Its rare for broken stuff to come with everything
That's why I wanted this one so badly! Such a nice set.
@@Tronicsfix its a really nice set!
I really love the re-assembly editing you've been doing lately. Slick!
I like it when you toss parts at the switch and they magically get attached. It's fun
Today of all days you fix this, so fitting to see you upload this today!!
Yesterday the left joycon of my AC Switch finally succumbed to drift. Today I have carried out my first stick replacement/repair successfully! :)
YES! NICE WORK! So glad to hear this.
Woah😲
I got no idea how your always repairing these thing but GO CRAZY!!!
I love this channel and I really liked it that you went a step further and explained minor details e.g. why you use flux or how you check those capacitors.
Keep up the good work!
Such a great edit! The cuts at the reassembling part were smoth af 😏 Had to rewatch it twice! You also improved your explanations with the soldering part. I totally could redo it with your explanation and tips… thanks a lot :)
This is one of the best looking special editions, Joycons scheme included.
i love how you chuck the components back in at the end in the last few videos, think it should be "your thing" from now on.
5:56 I totally missed these awesome cut trick choreographies. Thanks for adding such a detailed aweseomess! 😍
Man your videos are so chill and very interesting as well. More Switch Console fixing pls!! I do watch your videos everytime i eat breakfast or lunch or dinner hahah
Fantastic video. Really liking the different editing techniques you used. Great stuff Steve.
Lol love the videos man, you're easily the best repair channel on CZcams in my opinion. The way you tossed the boards and such back into the switch reminded me of some Michael reeves video edits (which is a good thing lol). Keep up the great work. Love from New Orleans broski
The quality of the video and the close up is outstanding.
Glad you were able to fix it. I really love the design of these Animal Crossing Switches. So cool.
So adorable! I love how excited he gets fixing things.
Really nice lighting setup for the microscope you have now. Crystal clear image. Good job as always
I *love* this special edition. It’d be great to pair it with a Switch OLED too!
Yes, that would be cool!
I love watching these videos, I recently had to send my animal crossing special edition switch for repair as it wasn't holding a charge very long and would deplete to 0 almost instantly. Nintendo's repair did fix it but provided little to no details as to what was repaired.
I like the fix, and its really cool you show all the soldering on the board. But why didn't you first try plugging in a different battery?
Been watching your videos for a while, I have to admit your editing has greatly improved on these. Both in the assembly and disassembly parts as well as the actual repairs. One thing I didn't really like is how you talk about how you're gonna desolder the chip before you do it, which kind of feels like a waste of time. Maybe you should try voiceovering the explanation while during the actual process next time. Keep up the good work!
I usually do a voiceover there. I don't remember why I didn't do it this time.
I see youre getting creative with your edits again. Well done.
Love to see a special edition console saved! What kind of flux do you recommend for replacing chips?
I use Kingbo paste flux: (paid affiliate link) geni.us/BuQS
@@Tronicsfix I seriously should have looked at this page when I bought flux. The flux I bought earlier in the year was almost like alcohol. It evaporates way too fast. Completely useless. If my C64 needs any more work, or I start venturing into Amigas or other old retro computers I'll definitely use your link.
I still use tin solder for every repair. Never new about that gel-like paste you used. Amazing
A very cathartic feeling when the repair is a success. A simple and effective fix. Feels good!
Congrats on another fine fix, Steve!
Hey thanks!
Finally! Happy to see the microscope camera lens clean again 👀
This is actually a completely different microscope
That’s the most crisp board level view I’ve seen on CZcams 👌
So glad you were able to repair this Steve, nice job!. Are you selling or keeping? I'm interested in knowing if you collect anything or if you have to sell for profit. Stay safe dude
What a tease! I was ready for that thermal paste
I just want to say, your videos have been a blessing for me, they’ve taught me a lot on what problems to diagnose and easily!
This high zoom footage of the chips looks amazing!
New Camera?
I love your videos Steve very informative and well put together Keep up the great work
Definitely enjoy and learn when watching your stuff. Where do
You get spare parts from, like the charge chip?
Awesome repairs as always. I've been trying to fix a friend of mine's sons switch that just out of the blue started blue screening, but I think it's beyond my capabilities
you always makes the work looks easy...great job.....Steve
Wow Steve! Thanks you for making most of our boring Monday into Tronics Monday! Keep rocking 🙂
My pleasure! I like to do extra videos when I can.
@@Tronicsfix I am pretty sure that it's not just me and the whole of your audience can and will watch your videos anytime!
Steve Amazing Fix
Keep up the good work 👍
Hey thanks!
awesome stuff Tron !!
5:55 The editing on that speed reassembly was really good haha
Another great video Mr. Steve. Keep it up the great work.
5:55 I loved this little, kinda... "stop motion montage" :P
So glad you liked that part!
Amazing content. Thank you for making these for all of us
I love that thermal paste. Amazing performance and you get a ton of it for like $10-15.
I love when you explain what you do in the video and why are you doing that, btw noob question from someone who know nothings, why if you put flux on the mobo only the chips come off, shouldn’t the capacitators come off too?
Nicely done Steve!
Out of curiosity, how did you learn about the switch’s charging circuit being connected to the video chip? I never would’ve guessed. Are there schematics or something along those lines floating around the internet?
Just from experience. Now there are lots of videos about it but when they first came out it was a little tricky to figure out.
i mean, it also kinda makes logical sense since the usb c socket is being used both for charging and through video output with the dock
@@abyzma201 Indeed "alternate modes" (such as displayport) are actually negotiated over the power delivery protocol! So in a device that supports both power delivery and one or more alternate modes the two functions are fundamentally tied together.
Great repair nice video to the point and nice game console also
So glad you enjoyed!
the only thing i would had loved to see personally is you just staring any game on it. Outside that, perfect job as always.
would be interesting to hear your theories in your videos of how something broke. Would theory here be that they overcurrented or overvoltaged the charge chip by perhaps using a laptop USB C charger?
I have this version (I have 2 switch)
Congratulations for your work
congrats from Brazil
Greetings from Germany and thx for your really good work with all of your videos. Will you take apart a Switch OLED and compare it to a 2019 model?
You got me excited thinking it was Friday your usually post day
Man, if only it were that easy to reassemble a Switch! Love it!
I would love to get a switch of my own one day but there hard to come across now and the prices online are just crazy due to scalpers
5:55 You should do that more often, its kind of mesmerizing ❤❤❤
Another great fix, Steve. Was the replacement chip a pull or do you have a stock of them?
I'm actually wondering about why you don't check for a bad battery first---even it's not the case this time, there is a big chance it might be over discharged (considering the almost brand new state of the switch) and dead. And if that is the case, messing with the charge chip probably is not a good idea.
Anyway, a good video. Keep working!
Great video lad keep up with the good work
Thanks! Will do
One of the metal prongs inside the charging port on my switch is bent. I have tried bending it back best I can. It charges but getting no image when docked. I bought a new port to replace but it looks tricky and gives me the fear trying it myself.
That's a really tough repair if you don't have experience. I recommend shanefix.com he's done thousands of them.
i love your channel bro
cuz you bought broken things and fix it
very nice bro
Nice job fixing the Switch!
Hey thanks!
Hey I love the videos, I just watched the one where you fix a large haul of Nintendo handhelds off of eBay. I’ve really started to get interested in this kinda stuff but truly have no experience and really want to start doing it, I was just wondering what would you recommend doing as a somewhat starting thing to get myself familiar with all of it?
Hey Steve can you do a tear down of the OLED switch and the joy cons it came with?
Maybe. I haven't done one yet because it seems like everyone and their dog are now doing teardowns of everything.
When I got my first Switch back in 2017, mine had a similar issue. My brother and I had waited for months to be able to get access to one only for it to never turn on and never charge. Luckily, the place we bought it from let us return it and refund for full price so we could order another one. I can't believe some Switches still have that issue now, you'd think they would have made sure it wouldn't happen again.
Excellent work and so cool.
Steve you're doing so good.
Are u using new lens for the microscope? Love it.
Thumbs up for that reassembly montage alone!
Good fix again wish you would do a video of you fixing loads of broken items again as those are the best
I've got one coming up!
Fantastic can’t wait
I was so lucky when I got my acnh switch. I never had expected them to rerelease so when I saw it I bought it immediately.
This migth be the best looking nintendo switch they released. Loved it got fixed.
Question is do you even have time to play games?😂
This is a really cool one. I rarely have time to play games.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice find!
Super satisfying! Did you keep this one for yourself since it's unique and was in such pristine condition?
Nice fix Steve!
Thanks!
Keep up the awesome work!
Hey, have you repaired a thrustmaster steering wheel like the thrustmaster leather edition for xbox? There are many that have gone kaput for one reason or the other
Planning to get one this december since they announced bayonetta 3, kirby game next year.
1:42 when he says "Resistance mode" he means the continuity test?
Looking forward to a Switch OLED fix in the future.
There was no pink paste under the big heat shield someone has been in there before
Would you mind sharing how you learnt to repair electronics? I really want to learn it too, so I can fix my own devices.
