I Bought a BROKEN Xbox One X From eBay...Or So I Thought...I Lost Money - I paid $400 for a "broken" Cyberpunk Special Edition Xbox One X from eBay - but when I tested it...it worked just fine. So I decided to resell the Xbox One X on eBay to show you all how I list items for sale and to see if I could make any money.

Do you like selling on eBay? Tell me your story!
BTW, the buyer did pay the same day and they have not asked to return it. So far so good!
UPDATE: After 3 days of this video being live It has made $1,131.17 in adsense revenue. That brings me from a loss of $188 to a profit of $943.17 in less than a week. Let me know if you would like me to continue to update the adsense revenue numbers. I expect this video to continue bringing in revenue for years.
Yes
No i personally only sell items that won't sell locally, i sold a oem Carplay Navigation for a nissan about 6 months or so, but the buyer complained she wasn't able to install it because it required some wiring, then she opens a case, and ebay sides with me because i stated in the description no buyers remorse and professional installation required and ebay closes the case, And now 2 weeks ago she made a request to her bank that i sold her an item not as described and paypal went ballistic to me, they asked for proof and all, i sent them, and now they said it could take 75 days to resolve the issue.
But the funny part is that PAYPAL Has the Case "Open" yet they want me to pay them for the item Even thought ebay once sided with me, and they said if i don't pay them i could go to collections and i really want to sue them for their unfair practices.
I've been using Mercari more lately as it requires the buyer to pay immediately. It's all fixed price listing, not auction style, but I've had better luck with that. It does have it's own scammers, but mainly it's just people with sob stories like "my husband just left us, my children have 8 forms of cancer each, and trying to raise money for an orphanage in Guatemala. Can you lower the price by 99% and include free shipping please?"
Their rules suck. I stopped selling on eBay years ago.
Iv sold some things on eBay made some good money I buy pretty much everything on there so I recommend it actually been keeping an eye on there for a ps5 but damn are they expensive
As an eBay seller, I cannot stand when people buy something THEN ask all the questions
“I didn’t buy this console to make money”… Mission Accomplished!
Lol
Task failed successfully
New business idea, buy working electronics for cheap and sell them back as broken for profit
Ha, ha...that would be hilarious!
Maybe that's a actual strat? For tax reasons anyway... One could write off the losses in taxes, I would guess?
Could work with a MacBook. Broken ones sell for so much sometimes, especially older models (compared to how much they're worth)
"Your ad is barebones"
More like "I didn't bother to read anything"
Oh man,I DO feel your pain!!!
Selling on MarketPlace,I see it all the time!!!!
I've been looking ages for a way to make a potential buyer actually READ the friggin' post!!!
I love seeing you buy a "broken" console only to find out it works. Just as entertaining.
That's great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it
It’s actually funnier seeing someone disappointed after finding out the item they bought of eBay wasn’t broken.
I can’t believe the buyer exposed himself like that and asked 2 questions that you put the answer to both of them in the description.
People are like that, generally stupid lazy and incredibly dense. I have sold a lot of stuff and pride myself in the attention to detail I put in my ads, primarily to spare me the questioning of all the obvious things. Despite my effort, there's always someone who will just ignore whatever I wrote and proceed by asking me things that are already answered in the ad. I usually reply "read the ad" because the alternative is "are you illiterate?
Unfortunately, this happens all the time. I'm always surprised by it for some reason.
@@Tomazack I just don't reply at all, in the hope that they'll go away instead of buying the item. If I answer, and they buy it, they're likely to be a pain in the butt later too.
My favorite is the "will you accept (drastically lower price) for the item?" message. Do you notice that there was no "make an offer" button on my listing? That's because I'm not willing to accept anything but what I listed the item for.
That, and because letting people make offers means they can sit on the offer, claiming they're going to buy it without actually checking out and paying for it. Same problem as auctions - people win and then just don't pay, so I'm stuck waiting around to relist. I refuse to do either anymore: everything gets listed buy it now and the seller must pay immediately.
@@Tronicsfix I think it's still surprising because there isn't a very good reason for it. There were less than 50 words in the description, where it clearly states 'console only' and even spells out what that means in greater detail (no controller or cables). Then the buyer has the audacity to say that they can't tell if it comes with cables from the description because it's too vague, but the description literally says "no controller or cables". From what I saw, there also weren't any pictures of cables in the posting.
@@Tomazack agreed! They ask if the item is available my first response is “did you read the description?”….
My first attempt into repairing consoles, I bought a broken PS4 that was advertised as not powering on. Assumed it may just be a faulty PSU. It was a private seller not a business and hadn't been opened up. Console arrived, worked perfectly fine so I just cleaned it up, ran it for a bit and ended up keeping it. 3 years later I'm still using it regularly with no issues,
Interesting hearing your eBay experiences. I've seen it all too. Had a buyer return an item I sold as "for parts" because they couldn't fix it. Had countless people never pay. Had even more dispute the product after winning trying to get a better price. I've had far too many bad experiences that now I'm sticking to local listings.
Yep, I hear stories like that from all over. The only reason eBay is still around is because they have such a large user base. It sucks that any buyer can rip off any seller if you know how to get around the rules.
The worst part is that as a seller you can't even leave negative feedback for a buyer. When ebay did that in 2012 that's when it really went downhill.
i sold a switch last year for almost $50 less than the going price at the time. immediately after it sold, the buyer messaged me asking if i would throw in some games for free. i declined and sent it to him and shortly after, he opens a claim that it was broken, water damaged, whole ten yards and asked for a 50% refund or he threatened negative feedback. i declined so he gave me negative feedback and wouldn't you know it, a week later, it was listed on ebay (serial number confirmed) for the full going price and none of the issues he claimed to have were listed.
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo Yes. It makes it pointless to leave positive feedback then
Definitely keep us updated on whether or not they want their money back.
So far so good
Refreshing after an hour, status?
Add the likes for video profit folks 😄
as an ebay seller, i got irrationally angry at those messages after the sale
Nothing irrational about your reaction.
Lol...me too!
I used to sell MTG cards on ebay. Usually my only trouble was being asking if I shipped internationally, which I specifically listed as US only, or if the cards were New/Mint, which again, clearly listed as "played condition." faceplam
Imagine buying a Cyberpunk edition Xbox and it cant even run the game its promoting.
Who the hell bids $250 without even reading the description of the item 😂😂😂 That buyer cracks me up.
might be a kid
My favorite little ebay story is when I bought a PS3 controller and the Canada border people inspected it and labeled it as a "personal massager" on their inspection sticker. I was very confused.
I mean, it does have rumble 👀
I find it shocking how much broken junk sells for on ebay.... Am I crazy for thinking that items that are broken or "for parts" should cost significantly less? Specially when you buy stuff in lots, as this channel often does.
As someone who buys broken to fix and sell for full price usually I love when the for parts consoles I buy are completely working. Although my favorite story was a listing for a DS Lite where they thought it was broken since they "couldn't get past the download screen" without knowing what DS Download Play even is.
Somewhere, the seller is thinking ..... "oh the USB goes in that way round!"
Lol...probably!
Or that they were using a bad cord. Or maybe it was their controller that had the bad port?
Interesting to see a "Behind the Scenes" Steve, great video 😁
I recently had an Xbox One console that stated it hadn't been opened. The picture showed the Warranty sticker still in tact, but they had just quite literally, put the Warranty sticker back on with no adhesive and it fell right off as soon as I lifted it! These are the dangers of Ebay 😪
Yes...those stickers are so easy to take off and put on without being noticeable in a photo.
@@Tronicsfix The last PSP model (the E-1000) is even worse. You can take it apart completely without removing the warranty sticker.
DUDE! I just found your channel today and I have to say it's extremely entertaining to watch you fix hardware. I have been going back and watching your older videos and i'm completely sold. Keep up the awesome work! I still own the old Halo 4 Xbox one and it's still running just fine.
I find it hilarious how people will not read the description. That is the most important part because you could literally take a picture of a box for an xbox series x and literally be selling just the box and because someone didn't read the description they would end up losing a ton of money.
Thanks for this entertainment today. and once again i'm glad I have found your channel!
Welcome to my channel! That's a cool Xbox! They generally last a long time if you take care of them.
Yes, it's hilarious (and annoying for sellers) when people just randomly buy stuff without knowing what they bought.
Wtf
One of the most honest persons on youtube. I love your video so much that I cannot get enough watching them. Great work as always and wish you a good luck.
I've been burned so many times selling stuff in eBay that I don't even bother anymore. Also, their fees are insane.
"They can't return it no matter what" buyer proceeds to open a SNAD (severely not as described) case, wins, you lose money, ebay is a joke.
They can still return it as I said in the video. They just can only return it for not as described. That whole system is a joke though, you're right.
@@Tronicsfix everything you said about the ebay process hit so many chords with me. I'm glad I'm not the only seller who experiences the buyer hell and return hell.
Sold a PS4 to someone in Puerto Rico a few months ago. Shipped it out, no issues. About 2 months goes by and I get a message out of nowhere that buyer has requested a charge back. I challenged the case and they still favored the buyer. Somehow I got lucky and I was covered under Ebays seller protection. Never saw that one coming.
Yeah, I sold a iPhone 5s on eBay a while back. The buyer requested return and said it was not as described “Screen has burn marks”. Ebay sided with the buyer. When i got the phone back there was nothing wrong with it. What a total waste of time
@@Tronicsfix That's why I stopped selling on eBay. Listing fees, selling fees, shipping fees, PayPal fees. Then on top of all that they always side with the buyer. Now I just sell on Mercari. I love that they act as a middle man. Buyer gets charged immediately and they hold the money until both parties have rated each other and then release the funds.
Great video Steve, thanks for you time 🤘 greetings from Colombia
Interesting. Glad you’re still optimistic.
If you have told the viewers about it prior to finalizing the video, many (including myself) would have definitely payed more to get it :)
Great video, and great "not-so-much-of-a-repair".
I look forward to seeing more X-Box one repairs. It's such a beautiful console that did not have its chance against the PS4.
You know what I think? I’ll bet whomever had something plugged into that system must have thought that the port was bad instead of checking the cord or device to see if that was the problem. It’s a matter of process of elimination. Sorry you lost money on that. I think that console looks amazing, and the sound it makes when you turn it on is just awesome!
That was a dope turn on sound
Agreed!
I like how you keep us entertained. From fixing to selling. Hope you achieve profits on this video. Hope you make more videos like this one.
Tronics Friday definitely gives a pretty good start to my weekends! Keep rocking buddy!
Thanks, you too!
This was one of the my favorite Console back in June 2020. Also it was Device that makes me excited
@@MichaelM28 What's Failbox you mean? Xbox itself or Cyberpunk game?
@@MichaelM28 found the 5 year old
Thanks for making this. Even though it wasn't what you planned. Just knowing how to list stuff on Ebay like this was super helpful.
My social anxiety and hate of people would never allow me to do this kind of stuff. Couldn't deal with buyers. Thus I always buy new stuff and never sell my old.
Ha, ha...that's part of the reason I rarely sell on eBay anymore!
eBay does nothing to protect sellers. I’ve been burned a couple times with buyers telling me they item didn’t work and they send back a broken, different item.
“ i need to return this I don’t like the aesthetically designed scuffs”
*proceeds to slam head on table
I got tired of selling on eBay where I’d line everything out, confirm with the buyer just for them to get upset because it was exactly as described.
Making a video about selling back the console to recoup your loss... Hats off to you sir!
I've done more than my fair share of 'test bids'. I have accidentally won things I didn't reeeeallly want. But, and this is the most important part, I have always immediately paid for my auction.
Overall, I've had no issues selling on ebay, but I still hate doing it. I find it stressful.
This was really interesting I would like to see more like it. Cheers.
Thanks for watching!
Best fix-it channel. Patient personality and yoda-like knowledge
400? Broken according to the advert I mean, I can't be the only one that think that's insane.
Prices for broken hardware are nuts. I personally sold a broken white PS4 that had never been opened (WLOD, I am just not good at soldering, so I didn't even try to fix that) for more than a working one would cost.
It's also limited edition/Special edition making it even more expensive even if broken
He knew it was overpriced, but it was the only listing that was *broken*, so he could make a video.
If I had a broken xbox no one in this world would give me even 1$ for it
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo he should just sell them as broken and see how much more he can get for them lol
Good work bro 😍
I miss limited edition consoles because of the unique sounds it makes and just the design of the Xbox
Yes, eBay's return process and feedback processes are both incredible jokes.
Lot of respect to be clear to your viewers about a profit for making the video... A lot of youtubers try to hide that. Love your channel btw.
You have a great business going!
Keep up the great work! 👍😁
Managed to turn this into a really great informative video actually dude cheers
Nice video, i like your honesty when. It comes to money its refreshing
Why wouldn't you test the console before disassembling.
Look forward to every show big fan keep up the good work
I was just watching one of your nitendo switch repair video i cant stop lol i love all of your vid's keep it up Steve!
Thank you so much!
@@Tronicsfixits my pleasure brother 👍👍
Please make more videos. We are bored in this lockdown situation. Love
Only $25 in fees? Last item I sold on ebay I got charged 12%, what a rip. I remember the days of 2% fees, back when you could actually flip stuff on eBay for a profit.
Great video!
I do a fair amount of console/video game sales, i usually put "console only" completely in caps. Auction style almost routinely attracts bad buyers and/or scammers. Since ive stuck to buy it now/best offer ive not had a single problems and maintained TRS. Also assume the buyer is buying or view the listing via mobile app, which makes the description even EASIER to ignore.
Thanks for sharing an Ebay experience. I like it !!!
I just got an iFixit toolkit and it is SO much better than my other toolkit. I work on a lot of electronics and it makes a huge different having quality screwdriver bits.
I actually liked how you showed a little how ebay works very informative. Can you please make a few more videos on how ebay works and some tips and tricks. Thank you love the videos keep up the good work
If I remember correctly, there is an option to make it so bidders have to have a certain amount of feedback to bid. You can always use that if you have trouble all the time.
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome content, thanks!!
Glad you liked it!
It's very entertaining, thx for the video.
i sell a lot on ebay and i agree, when someone ask so many questions after the purchase is gonna be a problem, or will ask for partial refund or just send u back the item not working anymore for some odd reason than u test it and it works, the worst was when i sold a router and the guy used it for 2 weeks while waiting for his network router to arrive, than returned the old router coz "not working as intended" lol
Loved the video, thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job. That buyer cracks me up
thanks for your channel,I have disassembly my xbox to clean some dust and dirt, but the fan noise is still a little loudly
Your reaction is priceless: “damn it! Another easy “fix”, where’s the challenge??” 😆
Intersting sale keep us updated.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the life of a buyer like that. How do they get through a day. Just how literate are they. Through which orifice do they primarily breathe. Are they really this stupid, or do they merely appear to be for some tactical reason.
The buyer might be a kid though. We don't actually know, and it is an xbox
Keep the good work
Hi love ur fixing tutorials
Glad you like them!
Hi! I´m new to your channel and i´m already loving it :). Also like people usually point out in your videos is that you are dead honoust about what´s on your mind etc. and that is something i respect a lot. You and i are same on this. I usually tell people the truth about things about them whatever they like the outcome or not but they always say that they appreciate the honesty.
That should be the way to live by, right :) ?

Great video as always buddy. ✌🏽

Love watching these videos. Just sit here thinking yeah I could do that. Even bought a soldering kit. Haven't even plugged it in. But while its here the fantasy is alive
Plug it in and give it a try!
@@Tronicsfix ill have to break something first.
I've found to when people ask stupid questions like that post auction it's because they aren't going to pay.
Nice vid man
Nice Video!
Like always great video
Wow Amazing content Thanks Steve
Glad you enjoyed it
eBay buyers sometimes kill me with these idiot questions. I’ve just sent them a screenshot of the description before and that actually worked
Nice vid!
I'm going to be soldering up some car electronics, do you have any recommendations on a quality soldering gun, flux, and any possible soldering accessories I'll need?
Interesting video ... I’m sure you know that you can choose to limit your buyers to be folk with a certain amount of positive feedback already on the eBay. Obviously it reduces your potential client base but might be worth it for items very likely to sell anyway.
Yes, and I thought I had that set up but apparently not...or more likely eBay updated their system and set it back to default
Cool vid!
You could show us the perfect amount of bubble wrap to safely ship items!
Dang that was a sweet purchase for the buyer! Been looking for one of these to swap an SSD into, I just can't bring myself to open up my current factory One X for the swap lol
As someone new to selling on ebay, it blows my mind when buyers don't read the ad, and ask questions after its sold.
Love your videos Steve!
I appreciate that!
@@Tronicsfix I was inspired by the work that you do that I decided to try it out myself🤣 I did lose money but gained it back with the nxt console I bought plus some extra profit but most of all the experience. I also found out that it is much harder then it looks😂
Great vid as always
Appreciate it!
I work with the public all day and agreed people don't read descriptions. They don't even listen to the answer to a question they asked! I will repeat an answer to a customer multiple times before they stop asking that same question...then later will call back and ask the same thing again!
The perfect amount of description!
I REALLY wish console design would look more like this in general. Who the hell want's a White semi-gloss box that gets scratched when you accidentally set a remote down on it too hard. This thing could have actual gouges out of it and still look great.
Totally agree; with experience you can spot a buyer that will be a pain in the ass from a mile away.
One thing I do not get on Ebay, even if the seller says no returns Ebay still accepts that the buyers wants it returned and send the money blocked and seller may remain with nothing.
Buyer sends 10 messages after winning the auction ........100% not going to pay or worst case, sending it back for a full refund in three weeks without even packaging it correctly.
I just watched your first tronics fix and your a lot different from when you first started lol.
You forgot the part where the buyer gets it and says it doesn't work, eBay gives him a full refund, and he sends back a brick.
I'd personally have cancelled that sale there and then when you got that message, buyers who ask questions after the listing ends typically are buyers to avoid, SNAD case and returns
You're usually right BUT if you cancel the sale after they bought it eBay and the buyer will not like that. I'd get a negative feedback and probably a strike on my account.
@@Tronicsfix True, but you'll likely lose money if the buyer asks to return, you'll lose your initial shipping costs and the return shipping and still possibly end up with a negative
Ha, ha...yep...there really is no winning with eBay sometimes!
Love the last 2 mins of an auction on eBay
