  • Hey guys, in this video we help jill dillon with her cushions that are microfiber and won't stay in place on her sofa. Also, we'll help Pam who is in the middle of a frame-up banquette project. She needs new cushions and foam for her banquette and does not know where to begin!
We answer the following questions from jill dillon and Pam Wiley
Need Custom Foam Inserts - Order Here: ucprivatecourses.com/
    jill dillon
Can you please do an episode on how to keep sofa cushions from slipping out? I bought a brand new sofa and I absolutely love it but I have noticed that the cushions want to slide forward very easily. The sofa is made out of a microfiber type material that looks like suede but it's easy to clean and looks really nice and soft and cozy. Also, can you recommend any type of product to put on the cushions to protect it from spills and such that won't hurt the fabric?
    Pam Wiley
I am making a banquette for my dining area. I am currently at the stage of covering the skeleton (I don't know the words used in upholstery.) Anyway, I definitely could use your expertise in selecting/buying foam for the seat and back cushions. I can send a photo of the inspiration piece if you like. It is mid-century modern in style and the cushions are not thick.
I was glad to hear your direction to make the covers first and then purchase the foam. Helps me know what next step...as I certainly have no idea what I am doing. Haha!

I am SO EXCITED that ya'll have explained so well for me! I've set November to get through covering the base, including the leather bits (yes leather. No biggie right? Ha!) and making the first cushion. Thanks so much for all you do and these videos. :)

Howdy guys I have a question for you, I have a pair of shears that are over 40 years old I would never part with. But I cannot find anyone reliable enough to sharpen them. The gentleman who used to sharpen them, unfortunately, has met his maker. He had an electric sharpener and I have no idea what the name of the Sharpener is, so if you could tell me the brand you use to sharpen your shears or scissors? I know this is probably a silly question and ya I could probably buy new but I am sure like me once you find something that works you just cannot give it up. They were given to me by the man who trained me. Thank you for your time. Great video, You guys are really going the extra mile for your viewers and I am sure that it is appreciated. I know I do. NS

If I want to redo a chair I have that’s in super old, worn out leather, would recovering it in fabric work? I think it’s doable, but I’m honestly not 100% sure.

      Hey Jellybeansbud,
Are you slipcovering or reupholstering your chair?
      All the Best,
      Grant

      @jellybeansbud3610 Před 4 lety

ucsolutions I’m looking to recover it. The leather is starting to die no matter how much I try to condition it, and I’m more concerned about it cracking and such. I could make a slip cover for now, but I’ll have to recover it eventually anyways.

    A. 52 pounds is my answer.
Now for my questions: I’ve only done very simple pieces in the past, and now I’m reupholstering a glider rocker that belonged to my mother-in-law. Both the seat and back cushions are ‘semi-attached’ with a knife edge and cording- the non-public side of each has upholstery fabric attached that gets pulled to the base or back of the chair and stapled in place. Is it feasible to change up this arrangement so that the seat (and possibly the back cushion) is loose and has the ability to be flipped? Regardless of loose or attached, I want the new cushions to be a waterfall style.
My other question is about panel board. This glider is a wing style, and the wings are finished wood with covered panel over most of the wing. I have not been able to find panel board locally, and shipping is more expensive than the actual panel board. I’m looking for suggestions on alternatives to upholstery panel board, or even just some specifications for panel board that I could use when shopping locally for this supply.
Thank you so much for your videos. I’m learning so much and am very excited to put this knowledge to use! (One of my next projects will be this VERY old upholstered rocker that belonged to my husband’s grandfather and is probably over 75 years old.)
