    Im really, REALLY Happy i bought and started to learn 3DCoat. don't get me wrong, ill continue to use and learn Zbrush and Blender, but currently it feels to me that Sculpting is most fun in Zbrush, and Modeling/Hard Surface is most fun in 3DCoat.

      Just last night i started learning about the extrude brush, and how you can hit E and make it do symmetrical, practically mathmatical extrusions.. both pulling out and pushing in the selected areas.. with 3D snapping turned on you can do some amazingly precise cuts, extrusions and the like... and now im being told of LAYERS in surface mode...i swear man. Why zbrush doesnt have grid snapping and a basic NORMAL poly modeler, ill never know. But hey, i own both and 3dcoat even has the ability to control just like Zbrush.. so who cares lol. My real quwpestion is why havent more people tried this program?! Hell if just the free version, its modeling and sculpting is far superior to Blender! And thdy are both free! So idk what people think theyve got to lose!

      @@Glitch-Gremlin very powerful tools. It feels very intuitive.
      I think the main reason for zbrush popularity is because it is production ready. Tools like blender and 3Dcoat are seen as pre visualisation tools.
      For concept art anything goes.

    I really appreciate your 3D Coat vids, Robert. Thanks for taking the time to create these videos!
    I share that sense of having fun in 3D Coat. But it's tempered with bouts of frustration, which is why I slink back to zBrush to sculpt and Blender to model. I hope with the 2021 update and ongoing improvements, 3DC will give me less reasons to stray.
    Keep up the awesome videos!

    Thanks for making this vids, I've always been curious on the sculpting/modeling tools of 3DCoat (I'm a 3dsmax/ZBrush modeler), in a positive way I'd say. Since I already am a huge fan of the texturing and UV part of the software, I regularly wonder how good it should be when it comes to sculpting and as you demonstrates, the same level of fun and well-crafted toolset is here. Thanks again for the enthusiast tutorial, I think I'm gonna watch some more from you (anyway, you've gained a new follower ;))

    Asked myself yesterday what the construction brush is for :) nice! Currently learning more 3d coat, after two failed attempts to get into it. It sometimes feels weird because its hard to believe how artistically relieving this program feels. The paradigms can make it really strange at first when coming from more traditional packages. I dont regret it one bit giving it a third try with the 2021 version. Awesome new UI and tools. I love it now, once I got it and understood its power. Pretty excited and constantly awed while learning. Thanks for the nice tutorial!

    Very cool tutorial. I've gone through most of it and started over several times trying to solve an issue I have. After creating the initial Constructor shape and I Resample the mesh, the next time I use Constructor to build a new mesh, I get a crease where the curved shape intersects the blocks. Not sure how to fix that.

  • @Gerh4rd_R44cke_Yeraldo_Rocked

    Nice Tutorial, did you have also took a look for the kitbashing-room and creating own kitbashing-objects (incl. joint tool in the retopo room)?! Its more complex than cosntructor, but very nice also. But I think the haredst part on kitbashing / retopo-joints - is create own 'constructor objects' - hope see very good tutorial soon, for kitbashing & creating own joint-retopo obj..

  • @MrJustwatchin9
    @MrJustwatchin9 Před 2 lety

    I’ll have to say. I’m pretty sold on the price point of 3d coat vs zbrush given that it has similar tools as zbrush. The main complaints I’ve read from users are performance issues and not being able to handle as much Polys as zbrush and that the slow maturity rate with software updates about it not evolving further than it already is. But I kinda feel like zbrush is playing catch-up with other 3d software packages. They’ve just been slowly adding competitor features in but with high efficiency. During my trial of zbrush running on my 11 y/o Mac I rarely experienced crashing. Although I haven’t tried out 3d coat but blender has crashed on me frequently. Something I’ve heard with people who used 3d coat. So the question that I have I is what’s the maximum amount of Polys 3d coat can handle?

  • @Glitch-Gremlin
    @Glitch-Gremlin Před rokem +1

    I got a question: is Surface mode still Voxels? Or is it something different? Ive been told its polygons but it sure dont look like polygons in wireframe mode i mean.

    • @RobertDempster32
      @RobertDempster32  Před rokem +1

      Surface Mode involves a triangulated mesh with dynamic subdivision or decimation. Allows you to get an incredible speed boost by letting you ignore volume and concentrate on the surface of your model, only.

    I really wasn't enjoying zbrush either. For me, most of the time was spent playing 'Hunt around the interface for that hidden function I needed.' Which is really bad when I'm just trying to create something relatively straight forwards.

    • @volker2714
      @volker2714 Před 2 lety

      Yes, you actually need to know your way around the interface. True. And you can create your own custom pop-up menus with all the buttons in it that you need regularly...

  • @nekosan01
    @nekosan01 Před 3 lety

    I do not understand what purpose of that's renders and models. I mean if i need to make product renders with perfect edges on 100% zoom, 3dcoat is useless in hard edges, it is always make jagged edges or it should have insane amount of polygons. So it is only for sketching and photoshoping purpose to hide that edges? But for that purpose there is tools in modelling software what produce better edges for example Hard Mesh plugin, or modo MeshFusion.

    • @RobertDempster32
      @RobertDempster32  Před 3 lety +1

      Great for concepting in 3D instead of drawing everything by hand :) Sure, to be more procise you can use Maya or CAD modelling software but I feel like I need a solid idea first before jumping into those softwares. That's my preference anyway, not for everyone :)

    • @harrysanders818
      @harrysanders818 Před 3 lety +2

      Not every model needs perfect edges. In fact, perfect edges maks stuff look cg. In games, most probably you bash up your edges and add damage to them anyway. Even if subtle. And at regular viewing distance, good enough. I think with Unreal Engine 5 Nanite coming out, modeling techniques like this will become much more relevant.

    • @nekosan01
      @nekosan01 Před 3 lety

      @@harrysanders818 Yes but triangulated edges also looks not realistic, and perfect edge easy to make more damages for paint with procedural mask, but shape should be still perfect. Though in some case i need completely perfect edges for product renders for example, for new product presentation even in games.

    • @RobertDempster32
      @RobertDempster32  Před 3 lety +2

      @@nekosan01 for sure, I think In it’s current state 3D-Coat is mostly used for Retopology and Texturing in the industry. Not so much for modelling. But it’s fun to explore different modelling softwares away from client work 🙂
