    Introducing:
SKETCH TOOL IMPROVED: Enhancements to the Sketch tool make it more robust for quickly creating high-quality Hard Surface objects; including better performance and stability.
MULTI-LEVEL RESOLUTION: We introduced a new system for a Multi-Resolution workflow. It fully supports Sculpt Layers, Displacement, and even PBR Textures. The Retopo mesh can be used as the lowest Resolution (Subdivision) level. 3DCoat will automatically create multiple intermediate levels in the process. You can rapidly step up and down the individual Subdivision levels and see your edits stored (throughout all levels) in the selected Sculpt Layer.
TREE + LEAVES GENERATOR: The recently added Trees Generator tool now has the possibility to generate Leaves, also. You can add your own leaf types, sculpt the shape if needed, and export all this as an FBX file.
TIMELAPSE RECORDER: A Time-lapse Screen-Recording tool has been added, which records your work at a specified interval by smoothly moving the camera and then converting it to a video.
SURFACE MODE SPEED IMPROVEMENTS: The subdivision of Surface mode meshes has been sped up significantly (5x at least, using the Res+ command). It is possible to subdivide models even to 100-200M.
PAINT TOOLS: A new tool called Power Smooth has been added. It is a Super-powerful, valence/density independent, screen-based color smoothing tool. Paint tools were also added to Sculpt room to simplify painting over the surface/voxels.
    VOLUMETRIC COLOR
Volumetric color is completely supported everywhere, where the surface painting works, even light baking supported and conditions.
    MODELING WORKSPACE IMPROVEMENTS
A new Lattice tool has been added to the Modeling room. Soft Selection/Transform (in Vertex mode) is also introduced in the Retopo/Modeling workspaces.
    IGES EXPORT INTRODUCED
The Export of meshes in IGES format has been enabled (this functionality is available temporarily, for testing and then will be released as a separate Extra Module for an additional cost).
    IMPORT/EXPORT ENHANCEMENTS
The Auto-Export toolset has been improved significantly and offers a really powerful and convenient asset creation workflow. It includes
possibility to export assets directly to Blender with PBR textures and better compatibility and optimizations for UE5 game engine and more.

After Maxon take over Zbrush, i gave your software another chance and fell totally in love with it.
Now instead of using it only for retopology, i have changed my whole workflow with 3DCoat as the center piece, doing sculpting, retopo, low poly modelling, uv unwrapping and texturing.
Thank you for all your work so far.
It totally replaced zbrush for me.

same here. keep it up coat... been doing game dev for 20yrs now and i like that coat thinks of the pipeline of production not just nice sculpting. zbrush tries to address the pipe but fails in alot of ways coat does not. plus i like that coat is a real 3d program not some fake hack.

I feel ya! I bought 3DCoat way back in 2010, and I'm hesitating to upgrade because of what substance can do, but 3Dcoat is in it's own league (actually there's nothing exactly like it) my biggest frustration is that there are so few high quality tutorials for it, even though I know the software pretty well, I still have to relearn it everytime I start re-using it, which is kind of a bummer.

Love to see the improvements and I'm very hype for the better blender applink.
I would love to see some additions to the paint room to include a proper gradient tool using 2 or more colors to be used across an entire paint object and a true blur tool for creating smoother color transitions. I've tried for hours to create a gradient using multiple layers, the smooth brush function, and the power smooth tool to no success. I had to open up Clip Paint Studio and use their gradient tool, but that doesn't aways translate well to 3d space because I can't see where to move the gradient in real-time to color match the other UV islands.
Also, the bug where a color doesn't always blend properly between UV islands persists even when using the "volume selection" option. The power smooth tool causes the color to recede away from the UV island border.

I am not very familiar with Daz's pose system, but perhaps you could export each morph target as a separate fbx or obj file and import those into the Retopo & Sculpt Workspaces respectively, and use the CONFORM RETOPO MESH option in the sculpt room, to make the Retopo Mesh conform to any changes made to the High poly/voxel sculpt object. Maybe the recent video about making Morph Targets in 3DCoat can offer some ideas?

Hi Mike. Could you possibly screen record a comparison using the example you mentioned, and email it to support@3DCoat.com? If there is indeed a problem with the performance, our developers would like to know about it, so they can fix it promptly. But we need to be able to re-produce the problem. A screen recording can help us diagnose the issue quickly.

CZcams is not an adequate technical support venue. Please visit the 3DCoat forum and share your issue with the staff and community members there. It would be very helpful if you could record a screen capture of the issue and mention what steps you took to arrive at the problem. If the staff can reproduce it on their end, they can fix it rather quickly. But, it is possible that it is just a missing step. A screen recording helps (those trying to assist) show what that step might be.

    • @dnashj33
      @dnashj33 Před rokem +15

They do understand (that there is a segment of the users/viewers who are not happy about the UI), and the 2023 cycle will be highly focused on making UI changes/improvements. Since 3DC 2021, a lot of work went into making improvements to the UI, and more work is already underway. That is why I have been asking others here, to please offer specific information along with your criticisms. It's the only way the developers can act on your input. Just saying "the UI sucks" doesn't do anything to help them make improvements. Remember, Blender Foundation got a lot of public criticism about their UI and guys like Andrew Price gave them specific ideas how to make it better. Only then did Blender Foundation act on those suggestions.

@@dnashj33 The UI is better, but could be improved so much more. These are a few of my suggestions as I once did UX work for a commercial company. 1. Too much text on the screen to the point where it feels cluttered. Either get rid of the text next to the tools and just use a tootip to show up on hover, or give the user the option turn off the text next to the tools. 2. Give some more spacing between the elements on the toolbars and UI. For instance, on the top toolbar when you select the fill tool, everything is cramped left justified. Space those options apart some more, letting them go further across the screen. The input boxes are also way to close to the text, add 8-10 pixels of space between the boxes and text. The thing to keep in mind about UI is readability and spacing. Even adding subtle dividing lines can be beneficial for users. 3. Too many paragraph long popups. I understand wanting to explain things, but giving the user the ability to turn those off would be helpful. These are just a few of my suggestions.

This program sure looks promising, but as a beginner in 3D I think it wouldn’t be wise to purchase yet. I’ll stick with Blender for now. I do know how to draw/paint however and I specialize in animal illustration so that’s what I learn to do in 3D, realistic animals. Hand painting textures is painful in Blender so a little update on that among other things could come in handy in the future. I wouldn’t want to give my money to Adobe

When 3d coat does things well it’s great but so much has just been forgotten over the years.
Things like smart materials in paint are so cumbersome compared to substance painter. No way of adjusting things on the fly and using masks.
Why cant I search with a text box my 200+ materials , I’m just left with an icon and a text box that can’t fit enough to read it. Hover the mouse over and wait a few seconds for the description to appear. It’s all very clunky. The paint room layers and object selection hasn’t changed for years. It’s a shame as it has so much potential.

Every example/demonstration cannot be a super detailed model ready for a game engine because they sometimes have to show tools utilized in the early stages of a pipeline. I fully understand your point, and agree that promotional material should impress, but some examples of any 3D software, will be somewhat basic, because that is when the tool is most commonly used. The demonstration with the sphere and wood table for the Voxel Paint feature, is a good example, where something super detailed would be overkill.

3DCoat's UI was completely redesigned (during the V3 beta period) to be similar to Photoshop's so that new users would be relatively familiar with the layout and structure, thus shortening the learning curve. We have no plans to deviate from this overall structure, however we have taken many steps since the release of 3DCoat 2021 to improve the UI and will continue to do so; especially in this current 2023 cycle. You can customize the UI to fit your preferences significantly, and even change the font type or size (via the Preferences panel > Theme tab).

Painting tools are now directly available inside the Sculpt Workspace and that includes Cavity masking/painting. Previously, users had to switch to the Paint workspace to use these tools. Now, they can be used directly in the Sculpting environment.
Furthermore, Freeze Masks/Selections can now be stored to a layer (in either the Paint or Sculpt Workspace). The Multi-Level Resolution feature is also a HUGE one, as it makes Subdivision Levels operate very similar to what sculptors from other applications are used to, and is thoroughly usable with Sculpt Layers, at all levels...not just the highest one (like another popular sculpting app).
Smart Retopo also received a lot improvements in 2023, including the ability to tweak the generated mesh while still in the tool (users had to step out of the tool to make quick edits to the mesh that was created with Smart Retopo). Auto UV is significantly improved with much better seam selection and packing algorithms. Those are just a few of the changes. A fuller list is available here:
