    GX100 and GT1000 options are best for use with ToneX because both units have minimal latency around 1ms. Tonex is around 3 so the whole latency will be around 4 ms which is a pretty low number. Using fractal or QC will make it bigger since both units are around 3.5 ms so the whole latency will jump to 7ms.

    The GX is in the next generation but it’s too big to fit well in the pedalboard. I’d prefer using it alone and dig for a good tone.

      Hey Paul, I’ve working with the TONEX and GX100 and need some help here … when I plug the guitar to TONEX and then to the return (PWR IN) of my amp I have certain amount of volume… when I add the TONEX to the effects loop of the GX100 there is a considerable volume loss (even with just SND/RTN on the effect chain)… how do I fix this?

  • @ianparr1533
    @ianparr1533 Před rokem +5

    The same Send/Return loop exists was a feature of the older BOSS GT series units (GT-100, GT-10). Using something like a ToneX or Strymon Iridium with these older MFX could be a useful solution, especially if you add in MIDI control of the modeller by the MFX unit to give you patch-based foot-switching.

    • @Stefan-
      @Stefan- Před rokem +2

      Yeah you could certainly upgrade the amp part of your existing quite old modeler since the effects in that old unit is most likely still quite good.

    • @gustavoloebel
      @gustavoloebel Před 29 dny

      Tonex should replace your amp, the 4 method cable would not make sense, what you could do is to connect your Tonex at the return of your amp and use only the power amp section of your amp. That sounds amazing for my usecases.

  • @GaryAlexanderMusic
    @GaryAlexanderMusic Před rokem +7

    I just got my Tonex Pedal yesterday for this very reason. I also have a GX-100. One thing I think you could have added to your video is... and people should know this, but you can save presets in the GX-100, with and without the effects loop in the chain. Most importantly, you could also control the Tonex Pedal for different presets, via MIDI. May be a good follow up video to this one. At least I hope it will work that way. That's another reason I use the GX-100, is so it can be a MIDI Controller for the Tonex Pedal. I have not had enough time to try that part yet. I'm still checking out presets and working on my 1st successful capture. If you have already used the GX-100 as a MIDI Controller, please let me know if it works. I would appreciate that very much. What I'm wondering about is how quickly it will load new presets on the fly as you're playing a song. Like in a live situation. I'm hoping it's spontaneous without any delay time between presets. Thanks so much for the timely video. It's right down the same road I'm on at this moment.

    • @mark_heath
      @mark_heath Před rokem +1

      @@cliffsewell1361 yeah works just fine, although you need to make sure that the right signal level is going in to the tonex (either boost the input gain on tonex or the send level on pod go). One nice thing you can do is program a switch to toggle between the pod go's amp and cab sim and the tonex. You could also use the pod go hack where you remove the type restrictions on the blocks and allow extra effects. Having said all that, I've used the tonex software a lot more than the pedal as its so convenient to use, so don't find myself using the pedal as much as I thought I would (still need to spend an evening loading it up with my favourite amps).

      The short answer: no, it's not a huge improvement. It's only worth it (or better, a MOD Dwarf) if one intend to profile their own amps... but with the amount of well done amp/IR profiles available online, I don't see the point of one doing its own.
      For 'end users' who only plan to load amp sims/cab IRs (that is: 99% of the target market of ToneX), better save on that ToneX thing and get oneself a real 4*12 cab or a new guitar with different pups instead, a much better investment!
      The long answer: what most YT infuencers forget to mention, is that in order to have their 'ToneX' sounds (a bit) better, they had to shell out not only the price of the floor unit ($400) but also a big chunks of $ to buy a series of amp sims and cab IRs that are decent, because what gets preloaded/available on IK's website for free is pretty much below what Boss pre-loads in their unit. And they forgot to mention as well that they compare the stock amps and IRs of the Boss with the custom loaded ToneX amp and IRs - an unfair comparison, since Boss GX-100 can also have custom IRs loaded.
      They also forget to mention that if the pre-loaded amps of the Boss are not satisfactory to one's hear, there are free amp capture (NAM) and IR loaders around that do the job as well, or better. The ONLY plus of ToneX are not the tones, but the fact that it's a floor unit (aka if one wanted to quickly switch amp/cab in the middle of a song... but who does that, seriously?). But again, there are several options that do the same - and much better (cf MOD Dwarf).
      In a nutshell: the comparison is not Boss GX100 vs ToneX pedal, it's: Boss GX100 + stock amp/IRs vs GX100 + custom amp/IRs (from any source - free softwares, floor units... doesn't have to be Tone X).
      My 2cents: tone wise, a slight improvement can be heard if doing a side-by-side comparison, and out of a mix. In a band, it's impossible to hear any valuable improvement. And even when playing solo, one would forget about the slight differences after 5min of playing.
      Custom amp captures+IRs improves things a bit over the pre-loaded amps+cabs, but definitely not at 'another level' to my hear as Boss pre-loaded stuff is great, and definitely not worth the big chunk of money that ToneX would need to work properly (unit purchase + all the files to purchase online). But I could see why one who has shelled out that amount of money for ToneX (+ extra money for ToneX to sound great) want to convince themselves of the opposite (buyer's bias). Same for influencers, who need to justify the free unit they got.

Is it just for when 1) you don’t like any of the GX 100 amps or 2) you want to capture your own amp? I feel like I’m already drowning in amp choices, so the last thing I want would be to try out 100 more. Unless the ToneX sounds so much better for some reason?
