The Boss GX100 is almost perfect, and at this price point, it's really impressive, I think...It's possible to change "Types" within effect/amp blocks (kind of like Fractal Channels) - but this interrupts the delay/reverb carryover...Aside from this, I think the Boss GX100 has loads of stuff to love.
Let me know if you want me to drop this preset into the folder?

It is March 2024 as I,. I bought my GX 100 a month ago. I definitely feel good about having chosen it. Almost straight out of the box, I created a patch that I had been trying to come up with using other pieces of equipment for years.
The GX-100 has something special, an X-factor in its sound. Something about the dynamics and feel. Love it. Bargain.
Totally awesome sound - one of the best clean tones I’ve heard. And great playing of course… as always 👍
The only reviewer that can make any modeler sound absolutely stunning. Your work is appreciated 🙌❤
I absolutely LOVE this pedal. The best $600 I have ever spent.
@Reijo Väliranta the presets are so-so, but you can really dial in some great tones. Be sure to go to your global eq and set the hi-cut to around 5 or 6 k. Learning the parametric eq makes a huge difference in the tone as well
Same feeling here 🙌
Love when you play lead with a cleaner tone, makes your control and dynamics really stand out! I'll get there someday...
Another really beautiful intro jam, enjoyed that.
Carry over needs to be selected in master block as well
Interesting. I haven't run into that problem the way I use mine. I think it's a fantastic unit, and I greatly prefer it over the HX Stomp and the POD Go.
I've heard that the Line 6 HX has better delays and reverbs. How do you feel about the effects on the Boss unit? I think I prefer the gain tones on the Boss
@@indrayan.chatterjee I think it come down to personal preference. I think the verbs and delays sound great on the GX.
Thank you John. It was your review in part that convinced me to buy the GX 100, I just couldn't bond with the Pod Go. The GX 100 works so much better for me, and for me, is easier for to navigate and get a decent sound. Would love more videos on the GX from you if you don't mind particularly on twerking the amps for clean/cleaning sounds. Thanks again. Love what you do and how you do it. Yours is one of the very few channels I look forward to every week.
"...twerking the amps..." DWL :-))
OOCH OOCH OOCH 😂
Thanks, John. I appreciate all your contributions to the guitar community. Almost all the sound samples I've heard seem like it sounds better than the GT-1000. Is that your experience? Thanks!
it's because you are changing amp or od type within the preset if you stick to either one amp one od it should be ok or have two od and tow amps loaded into the patch then set up a swith to switch which amp od is active then the trails will continue because it not having to load new amps or pedals
It makes sense why it wouldn’t carry over when switching amps since the signal flow is probably disrupted when changing them. The old amp is switching off when changing them. Boss would just need to allow the old amp to stay on long enough for the trails to finish.
Eureka!
This is normal for this pedal. You can work around this by having "dummy" effects so that each patch has identical chain, even if they aren't used all the patches.
It takes does make the setup more tedious, but it does mean you get trails on all your patches in a bank.
@@digitalslw , just use one of the patches as a "template" for sound cooking from scratch. All old GT series are all made same way - their effect chains are static and has similar structure (and processing delay as a result). New line has variable effect chain like Line6 family, so BOSS need some tweaks to adopt.
Hay John have you looked up gx-100 trails? There's a few videos on how to do it. You need two amp blocks in the two chains. You just copy both amps in the two chains, then turn the one not in use off.
The Boss effects are amazing, I have the Boss Katana Air and a Boss Pocket GT, and they are the most useful tools in their class I have. I really helps out to have the wireless footswitch.
loved this one!
i've got gt1k e=last week, and watched all your videos about it. Would love to see more!
Cheers!
I love the GX 100 and would'nt exchange it for a Helix or Kemper . Maybe a Quad Cortex , but I didn't had the Chance to check it out.
Hey John I was wondering if you rest your pinky finger on the pick guard for more accurate picking? I have this habit also and not sure if its a bad one or not 🤷♀️
The pitch shifter warbles when downtuning clean preamp blocks, but otherwise its amazing. Very happy with the 4 presets Ive made: Crystal Chorus, blended Matchless Vox, Bassman and blended Marshalls.
BOSS never was good in pitch-control algorithms. If you want a good pitch shifter of harmonist - use external Digitech stompboxes. EHX Slammi and Slammi+ are also a game changer. And they are smaller than Whammy, size is equal with Crybaby.
but how is the boss unit soundwise (amps ) in comparison to the fractal , helix etc etc?
Best sounds ive heard from you compared to the helix pod go vids.
I'm also reading everywhere that these have basically no latency in their playing feel. Noticeably less than say a pod go or helix. did you notice this
Hi John, did you contact Boss about the cut off issue and if so, what did they say? Do they plan to fix it in an update?
In its simplest form can you run this direct into monitor speakers?
Have you tried instead of changing the amp type, add the 2 amps in the split chain and switch back and forth. I may be wrong though.
Hi there, can't see any patches for boss on your link - have you put together a bundle?
Can you make your Voxlanmemory U49-1 and U49-2 used in this video available? I didn't see any Boss Gx-100 Presets available in your presets when I followed your preset link. Thanks
Have you found the solution to this?
I also tried to keep chain the same and switching between memories to navigate within my other effects in chain, but I can't keep effect activated while switching between memories in terms of the same bank.
So I don't understand how to use it like stomp with that memories (1-4) in the same bank.
How do you assign the BANK pedals to an effect in manual mode? I just cant do it!
Thanx, what did Boss reply to this issue ?
Isn't there a way to be able to have the trail of the delay if you assign your effects to the numbered switches instead of banking up? Would it still work with the trail that way?
It'll maintain trails if you keep the basic order and type of effects the same - I think what you're discussing would definitely keep trails for sure as you wouldn't be changing presets?
Is it as good ad the hxstomp?
Can I change the switches names in "manual mode"?
Hola amigo como estas? Necesito que me puedas enviar donde descargar este preset que creaste para Gx100 por favor si me pueden enviar el linck de descarga . Muchas gracias
I really want to se a video with the Iridium and how is it still holds up with today's modelers. Boss,Line 6, QC ect...😊
Search John Cordy Iridium, he did loads backalong
trying to buy this from uk for a long time but its unavailable. anybody knows whats going on with BOSS GX100??
It is available at Thomann in Germany.
Gear4Music also has something on offer every now and then. It's worth looking in regularly.
I got one with Bluetooth adaptor at Gear4Music. Will arrive the days.
Is it better than a ampero II stage
There's a buffer issue regarding the use of personal IR's.
Can anyone recommend an amp/speaker to go with this for "live"?
Fender FR12
Reminds me of Eric Johnson, *elevator sky movie.* nice guitar tones. The pedal sounds amazing.
Did you find out if that is the way it is, or is there another way around the issue?
Is true spillover something required on a mid level device? True spillover requires a dedicated processor or a 51% reservation on a single processor. I'm not sure that is something that would make sense here. Maybe an option in global memory to block off the memory and CPU is you wanted but then people would complain about the limited amount of blocks available.
Well, it's just that this is one of the kind of selling points of the GX100, and it's pretty unique at this price point?
@@johnnathancordy my bad. If Boss listed that unit as having true spillover capabilities I completely missed it.
You need to switch between two amp blocks instead of changing the types on the same block
Temptoing solution to my messy pedal board.
That’s really weird. The normal GT-1000 or the CORE do not do this. I would guess there probably isn’t enough processing power for the GX-100 to keep the trails going when changing the effect type. What you might have to do is separate the delays and reverbs into their own line in parallel with your dry signal. Put the delays by themselves and the reverb by itself in parallel with your dry signal, and then change the effects types.
I'll give it a try, but I think maybe the strategy would be to put BOTH amp models in the preset instead of switching types? That works seamlessly anyway? Would just mean I can't put quite so much into the preset?
@@johnnathancordy Yeah that’s a great point. On the GT-1000 I always have two different amps going and switch between them by turning one on and the other turns off at the same time, and it doesn’t kill the trails. Same with switching drives. I don’t switch the type. I just switch between the two DS blocks instead. Maybe that is why the trails never go away. Switching between presets can be a lot of fun too since the trails never die. It’s really just insane how powerful these units are now. Does the Line6 Stomp or Helix switch between presets the same way? I find it funny that the Neural DSP doesn’t switch seamlessly and it’s the most expensive one besides the Kemper.
Wich is the issue????
Seems like an oversight or bug, it doesnt seem logical that something that is before the delays and reverbs should cut off trails since these effects come after and shouldnt logically be dependent on the amp block but rather just repeat the sound that was already produced by the amp block and other effects before the delay/reverb. Im not a programmer myself, but i am a tech that has worked closely together with programmers and have release tested new firmwares of other types of products before release and have seen a lot of strange things far worse than this, its easy to miss details like this. I wouldnt be surpriced if it can be fixed, i dont know of course since i dont know how the code is constructed.
Anyone know where to purchase good presets for this modeler?
Check out boss tone exchange folks like me and the studio rats have uploaded stuff there for free
@@johnnathancordy wow that’s awesome! I think I may pick one of these up!
I'm really enjoying this pedalboard...
Although there are moments when it sounds too digital.
As mmmrbb said, I'm looking forward to your videos about the GX and its tones are fantastic, in addition to its influence on buying here as well.
In fact, all your content is fantastic!
So I would like you to drop this preset too :-)
And once again: Thank you very much!
And Hugs from Brazil, RJ \o
This might be stating the obvious and perhaps you are already doing it this way for Carryover? As well as switching the Carryover parameter on, (or off) in the individual effect, you also need to switch the Carryover parameter on in the MST block at the end of the effects chain.
Yeh, I tried all that stuff, but switching Types breaks carryover between Presets too in the GX100 (I don't think this is the case for GT1000?)
Ok now I understand what you are observing. It will be interesting to hear what Boss have to say in their reply to you.
I change Pre-Amp Types (in parallel) by switching the Channel using the Divider (using the switch's 2nd function CUR NUM) and Carryover works fine. I will see if I can replicate what you are getting when I get a chance.
Who are your favorite Truefire players and why?
Nice patch bro can you send me patch setting
This looks so good, can't decide between this and the Pod Go.
This.
Gx 100 so much better my friend.
@@harimaguilar3154 Thank you, I'm actually deciding now between the Helix Floor/LT and this or the GT 1000
Cost being equal, a GX100 or a clean s/h Helix Floor ?
Cost of these two devices are nowhere near equal.
@@bryantwalley I know, but there was a clean s/h Helix Floor listed for £600 near me - sold yesterday. There are always bargains for those who are prepared to wait, and I don't know whether it might be better to buy a new mid-range device or a s/h high-end one, hence the question.
Of those two, I'd go for the Helix floor if the price is equal
@@johnnathancordy Thx.
Helix LT is another option, just gotta be sure you won’t miss scribble strips too much.
Great video and sound. Please put it into the folder. Thx
No aux in!!!!!!!!
that's not s small problem! at that price range it should not do that.
Change the preset, not the bank
The small issue: the gain sounds are shit
