  • This video shows how to adjust the "Trim In" setting on the Tonex Pedal to get the best tone. It's one of the most important settings and affects the tone of all captures and presets. Tonex Pedal at Amazon: amzn.to/3oMxqYo (affiliate link)

    Great video thank you! I was starting to think there weren't any clean amp models on this thing until I captured my own and even that was distorted. At that point, I knew something was up and found your video.

    Thanks for sharing. My ToneX was on 8.5 and with my humbuckers sounds nicer at 0. I think IK M fixed this after the 1.0.5 firmware upgrade so everyone who purchased a unit before April '23 should check this setting

    You could set your global input trim to 0.00 leave your volume knob at 10 and just adjust the gain knob on the amp no matter what guitar your using. .You can then save the gain adjustment per preset . Global settings shouldn't be messed with once set properly.imo

  • @VintageRandom
    @VintageRandom Před 11 měsíci +3

    Very helpful.
    I did notice something last night re the trim and levels. It seems the trim, preset volume, gain and master volume all work off of each other when adjusting input gain. I say this because, after getting my trim set, i adjusted the master and patch volumes and started clipping again. This confuses me a bit because that master volume is supposed to control the overall pedal output. If thats the case, then the clip meter really addresses the whole pedal and not just the guitar input.
    Overall fantastic tone and feel. Changing guitars is tricky though. IK should make input trim based on preset and not global.

    That you for making this vid. I've been wondering why my "clean" tones sound more like "edge of breakup" tones. It would only give me a clean sound if I played gently or turned the volume down.

    I just got one of these, and the first guitar I plugged in was a 7 string loaded with Seymour Duncan Mick Thompson Blackouts and I was wondering why it was sounding a bit crap. +8 and those pickups just doesn't work for anything. Thank you for the video!

    Thanks for the tip. Just got mine a few days ago and hadn't checked the trim setting. Just watched your video and out of the box it was set to 0.0db as default. Just wondering if they've changed it with some firmware update or something? Cool tip on the Dual for wet/dry recording of the same guitar track as well 👍

    Does that mean I have to change a global setting every time I go between a Strat (single coils) and a Charver (Duncan JB) for example?

    • @davidthomas9960
      @davidthomas9960 Před 4 měsíci

      Not really. The tonex is acting exactly how a real amp would react to pickups with different outputs so just set it and forget it. If you want to I would just make different presets with different levels of gain to match the different guitars (preset gain not the global input trim)

  • @digitalchris6681

    I'm confused.... I have a Stratocaster, and even with the trim at max i still got LOW so I added a pedal (fulltone ocd with drive and volume FULL ON: so loud!) and still get LOW. Is my unit faulty or do I misumderstand?

    • @MrBossei

  • @markwest5844
    @markwest5844 Před rokem +2

    Unless I'm misunderstanding, this is only a global setting, correct? To that end, how can you set up the pedal to accommodate different guitars/pickups? It would be great to be able to do this per preset, so that you can have guitar/pickup specific presets when using live.

    • @masters-of-music7602
      @masters-of-music7602  Před rokem

      You have to adjust the setting manually for different guitars; it's not set and forget like Fractal modelers.

      @markwest5217 Před rokem

      @@masters-of-music7602 To be clear, if I switch guitars during a live gig, I’d have to reach down and adjust the trim level to match that guitar? And then do it again when switching back? That seems highly impractical for live use.

    It funny how IKM did not address this trim adjustment very well in the User Manual ... or how to get to it: You did. Push in and hold the Model Knob? Push it in and release? Do you turn the knob when it's pushed in or when it's released? Important information for sure ... if you don't do it EXACTLY right, you don't get where you need to go. This applies to all uses of the Multi-function knobs in the manual and in their "instructional" videos. Don't leave this to the engineers. Please.

    Input trim is the real secret of the tone x pedal...out of the box it sounded very bad...all my fav presets of the free software sounds very low and different at first. Then i began working on the input trim and i made a rule myself to match the sound of the same preset as it sounds on the software... now i am enjoying all the sounds at their best....

    • @milankotevski1663

      Most of the captures sound weak in the software version. By raising the input trim, the amps spring to life.
