GE is the new ALCO. I was railfanning in Merrimack NH back in November, and a consist with a GP40-2LW was on the head trailed by a GE B40-8, standard cab. The EMD from the looks of things was emitting ZERO exhaust as it excelled into notch 7, and the GE was smoking so hard that all of the tree branches above it were being thrown around like they were caught in a wind storm

That's the best title I have ever come across

Totally agree. We have this engine in Australia but except the iron ore mines in Western Australia they are muffled. Terrible! Been to the US many times and GE and EMD engine sounds are always a highlight of train watching. Thanks.

Smokes & sounds just like an Alco.

The title made me think it was a video of Indian Railways, where Alcos, EMDs and GEs are very prominent.

Sounds like it got a bad miss

Surely your not suggesting GE working closely with ALCO copied anything they did? You know ALCO's wishing they never slept with those snakes.

mate, the 7FDL is an evolved Cooper Bessemer. Which, as far as I know, was not invented by ALCO.

@@Kudlaty771 And they stuck with 7fdl through thick and thin too. GE is a swampy company and that was my point. Alco was just a bunch of dumb ass steam engineers that got what they deserved. They could have made it and if properly managed would have made it. I actually liked the RS Series of switchers. Working on and around many switch engines you need them to be easy to get on and off. We didn't use radios so visibility was a big plus

GE is not the new ALCO. GEVOs are far, far, far beyond what ALCO would ever have come up with.
