- Some of General Electric's finest chugging loudly while pulling & pushing heavy freight trains in Alberta, Canada. The 4-stroke GE prime movers snort loudly when throttling up or under heavy load emitting that classic Alco like sound.
Disclaimer: Cameras and operator did not encroach on the line of the right-of-way or trespass on railroad property in making this video. It is dangerous and illegal to enter onto a railway's right-of-way. For railroad personnel: I try to avoid posting footage of you doing your job as much as possible. Although I love the sound of EMD's, I have to say, GE's have their good sounding moments too! I especially love the slow idling noise! :)

The whining AC traction motors sound epic when a train is running at high speeds; especially when a GEVO or AC4400CW gets assigned as a DPU.
thats some great sound. you gotta get the GEs at low speed to hear that. when they're flying by at track speed all you can hear are the traction motors singing.
roaring EMDS, rumbling GEs, Thundering Alcos.
Something special about the chug of a GE locomotive! Nothing else like it (except maybe the sound of a 4-8-4 steam locomotive!)
0:21 gives me the tingles.
The Idleing cp at 1:32 sounds like a old farm tractor!
Mike Pendergrass I believe they idle at 400ish rpms.
@@GeneralRELee 335RPM's in Low-Idle. Skipfire will make it idle around 330RPM's so certain cylinders can fire which each cycle to save fuel. A High-Idle would be around 440RPM's.
Until it throttles up. Lol
In my headphones you cannot beat these sounds. Boy oh boy do these sound good! Great Job!
Although I'm more of an EMD person, I still love hearing the distinct GE rumble!

I guess I know why they chose a AC4400CW for Unstoppable,the thing sounds like a grinding menace.I will always love the SD70ACE never the less,but those and the ES44AC come very close for me.

I love the sound of these GE locomotives. I wish GE had supplied the parts to the UK when Brush Traction built the Class 60's although the Mirrlees Blackstone MB275T does sound similar but less aggressive.

Nothing like doing a roll by standing by these powerful Bruts lifting a hundred loads out the yard,especially when the head end is in a hurry to cover the road ,and heavy on the notching up.the ground starts to shake under your feet.thanks.

You bet Gregg. Headphones or a decent stereo are necessary to recreate these fantastic sounds. Still don't get the reverberation in your chest though, you need to be trackside for that :) No problem!

why does it look like the ES44ACs have most of the horns facing backwards instead of forwards?
Noah S. Even with most of the chimes facing in reverse the K5HL horns still meet the FRA requirements of 96 dB, while causing the least amount of discomfort to the crews.
