@@CameronRenaud yeah we got SD60m sd70macs getting retired yet there haven't been a bad complaint about the C44-9Ws and dash 8s were proven better than EMD locomotives
CSX's dash 9's were very early pre-production units with an extended dash 8 carbody and their trucks, but dash 9 components. The first three actually had dash 8 frames.
@@Kudlaty771 The air can leak on occasion, causing the pressure in the main resovoir to drop which would normally set off the compressor past a certain point doesn't answer the question of no whooping overall though, as the air compressor does kick on early in the vid
The locomotive air compressors "whoop" on even when there's no cars compressed. These things are constantly hissing air, releasing air, spitting air, etc while idling. Sometimes the engines will rev up then rev back down on their own too
Something I’ve noticed that is odd to me is this. We can hear the typical diesel “knock” in this engine’s idle. But with EMDs two strokes, I don’t ever hear the knocking sound at idle. I wonder why

Is it a dash 8 engine cylinders or dash 9?
It is technically a Dash 9, having its electronics, but with a Dash 8 body and trucks.

This is purely a guess, but maybe the lack of any cars to maintain brake pressure with makes the compressor kick on less often?

Newer model GE air compressors don't have that whoop noise like the older ones.Different drive motor that starts faster and quieter.
