As someone who was in school when the Columbine shooting happened, they started looking at students suspiciously when they should have been looking at how the safety net is failing and, welcoming concerns (otherwise regularly ignored warnings). What is mind blowing to me that there are states that do not have any requirements how to store a gun safely, especially in cases when children are at home. The parents were not prohibited to gift a minor child a gun. I knew US gun laws are often very weak, but this is a new low for me.

I didagree with the point she was trying to drive about having a gun = more likely to commit suicide than having to use it in a break-in. She needs to think about the logic and context there. Also, suggesting that families should avoid owning a gun or sell their guns is dangerous too. A crazy high % of children who are taught gun safety by *good* parents are just fine and better for it.

Ignore everything presented and hop to the Bottom line:
That original worksheet is a road map for what happened that day.
•A road map - EC wrote "help me."
•A road map - a drawing of the gun, an early Christmas present (?!!)
•A road map - "Blood Everywhere" written on the worksheet. That happened.
A road map - student drawn with 2 shots, identical to a victims wounds.
    A road map.
The minute they saw that map, they were informed of the seriously dire situation. The school personnel wanted both parents to take him out of school. Those parents, insisted they had to go to work and EC would have been home alone. Personnel didn't think it was in EC interest to be at his house alone.

This should have been happening all along. People need to take having children seriously and that they are taking on a great responsibility of raising a human being. Parents need to take "Parenting" seriously and hold themselves and their children accountable for the actions they take. Americans have been raising children to be children instead of responsible adults.
