What didn’t help is they made an attempt to run, they were so cold and callous AND they literally hired themselves attorney but not their son who was facing life in prison. The kid had to feel so u loved prior to the shooting and only had it confirmed AFTER the shooting. It’s like they wanted a “normal” son with no issues, but without realizing they were the issue. @@hs7wings There have been plenty of cases where the defendant was found guilty for something someone else did. If they knew what they were about to do or knew that someone could be in grave danger and did not act. Now it pertains to parents too, which it should. I seriously hope this case does alarm parents: the appalling number of parents who are abusing alcohol, abusing drugs or just not willing to do the hard yards of effective parenting is out of control. It's about time parents are held accountable for the crimes of their children where negligence and dereliction of parental duties can be clearly shown.

Agree with verdict ..Allowing their child access to a gun knowing how he struggled with his mental health shows a breath taking lack of care.. They had one job with one child and failed miserably.
During the trial, the the attorney for James kept bringing up the fact that this area lots of people own guns. The jury is of that area, peers of James, and they saw how careless reckless even.
This is a policy issue. Hopefully they will update given the circumstances. Teachers/ administration could not search personal property without reasonable suspicion. Since the shooter had not made overt threats they thought he was just depressed. Also not uncommon for students to have heavy backpacks due to size and weight of textbooks.

If you look at the Ferriter and Crumbley cases, the Ferriters imprisoned their son for misbehavior and the Crumbleys bought their mentally ill son a gun which is essentially going from one extreme to another. We as a society should be working on solutions before these tragedies have a chance to occur. We will soon forget about the Ferriters and the Crumbleys and another tragedy will occur with all attention focused on the crime.
School should be held accountable. Law enforcement needed to be involved immediately when his parents left him alone at the school. Devastating abandonment. Policy needs to be reviewed /changed ASAP
Don't blame society, social media, video games, etc. Mental health begins at home. I'm ashamed that it's taken our country so long to hold bad parents accountable for these events. This could've been avoided if we had a government that made sure our kids got the help they need to help them when they're in obvious crisis. Pro-life shouldn't end when they get out of the womb.
24:00 one of the biggest things I noticed from the footage that was shown was no affection. They might not have been able to get him into a dr that exact day but they couldn’t take him home & just be with him? This is such a difficult case. The school didn’t see him as a threat at that time. They could/should have checked his bag at that very violent! I have a son with mental health struggles & getting him into counseling & Dr’s has been a waiting game atleast where I live.

And some of school shooters don't even attend that school. Explain that please. Then what do you do or who do you blame. I am glad a parent is finally held accountable for a child's action. But when they're grown then who do you blame. Oh the gun???
I'm also curious about the influence those violent video "games" had on the mindset of Shooter. Parents, please be mindful. Teens can be so very impressionable. Teach them well; show them even better. ❤
@Sochi314 ~ I agree. However, Shooter was obsessed with video games that had scenes of active, realistic killings. To my knowledge, hunters don't hunt with pistols. Nor do hunters use human outlines for target practice at shooting ranges. Shooter's interest in pistols, specifically, was nurtured from somewhere. The trial didnt reveal any references to cartoons or movies whatsoever. Imho, Shooter needed mental health intervention long, long ago, at the first bird's cry ~ if not sooner.
@Sochi314 LEO told a victim who was shot by his son that he took a training classes. First person shooter games have a huge influence on children and young teens. it makes them feel as if they are actually the shooter and robs them of empathy. They become numb to death, while learning that blood and gore is fun. Most are too young to realize shooting someone in real life is no game. Just look around you and see how many children kill today. It definitely is partially responsible for the state of our youth.
He literally looks like the devil and may he rot in jail. I've also had enough of the media spending way too much broadcast time on this case. It's done and over with. Enough is enough already.
I hope this sets a precedence for other parents, however remember, there are in fact cases where the parent is completely responsible, locking items up separately, yet a mentally ill child, or even an evil child will always find a way, so while I agree that the Crumbly’s are responsible, not all parents who carry are being careless. Personally, I don’t have kids, nor do I carry. I’m just trying to balance things out here.
And the Dean of students who went up to Ethan’s classroom, got his backpack thought it was heavy and didn’t look inside to see the gun and handed it back to Ethan
I'm so happy there was some kind of justice for the families. But there are no winners here. Fly high Justin, Tate, Hanna and Madison Let's hope your deaths weren't in vain and parents will pay more attention to their guns and their children's well being. I pray lives will be saved from this.
This is a case of "people who should never have had children." Clearly, they didn't value their son and especially once they found out he was severely mentally disturbed. THEY KNEW he was not well... Parents typically know instinctively who their children are. They did not care about that boy. They cared about their hobbies and bed hopping. As a result, 4 beautiful lives at the height of their teen years and as their personalities were shaping into the adults they would've become....looking forward to college, the future, dating, and so much more, in the cold ground, gone!! Ethan still breathing and getting 3 meals and a cot .
Society does seem to think Moms are more responsible adults than Dad's in many cases until suddenly a bitter dude is paying child support and trying to dodge it, or man up. Society has too long held double standards among adults based on gender.
This is a good precedent for the country. Guns are the number one killer of children in America. The states are loosening gun laws with no regard for public health or safety. With rights comes responsibility.
@@hs7wings The message that it sends is if you have a child in crisis as a parent you are responsible for addressing it immediately. You don’t give yourself child a weapon of mass destruction for therapy.
yet kyle rittenhouse, an actual shooter walked free.. that being said. parents are responsible for their kids untill they are 18. I hope some parents putting guns in the hands of kids and teaching them them it's important not to get caught will now re-avaluate.. My dad always said "you didn't stop being my son after you turned 18" implacating he felt responsible for life. he was a great dad. I miss him.
It's an interesting tidbit to know that when the Crumbley's were arrested they each hired their own lawyer to represent them in court, however they didn't bother to hire a lawyer to represent their own son. The fact is they didn't care about him, he was an impediment to their lives, and their swinger lifestyles. I bet James Crumbley was secretly happy knowing his troubled son would go to prison for the rest of his life as he would be out of theirs. They didn't reckon that they too would find themselves behind bars. SUCK IT UP Crumbley.
Parents should know when something isn’t “right” with their child. He didn’t sound like a normal preteen.. etc I listened to the case and I could see that he had some issues.
What about the school being held to same as parents, school let James to remain in school and didn’t check bag pack! Principle or counselor should be held accountable too!
Thank you to the families, who have sacrificed the most, for holding everyone involved in the chain of a preventable mass homicide accountable. Finally someone is doing something that will force better behavior on the part of gun owners, parents, schools… After the school, can we go after the gun shop owner? Gun manufacturer and the NRA? If our government fails to protect US, then we the people need to affect the change in self defense or things will never change and will only get worse. had they taken ANY steps, anything, they wouldn't have been on trial. EC's friends' parents got their child mental help. see the difference between the two? they took some type of step.
If his attorney knew what she was doing she would have told him to plead guilty. Obviously a waste of time and tax money. Ethan and the families of the victims deserve accountability. That’s the bottom line here. There’s not just one guilty person here. Yes obviously Ethan was guilty, nonetheless, he took accountability, as he should have, he had two parents. It would have made a big meaningful difference if this father acknowledged some responsibility. Again if he had a good attorney they would have told him to take a plea to take justificable responsibility, which would have been healing for the victims, their families, and Ethan. In turn, speaking as a good attorney, he would have had a better sentencing outcome than his Narcissistic wife.
Ethan made the statement he wanted helped but his parents didn't listen ........ Case was decided against them at that point! We HAVE to listen to our children 😢

@@hs7wings I agree with you to an extent, however, the Crumbleys ignored signs of trouble with Ethan and gave him a gun!
After both trials, and now that all the details are out, i think most people agree with the verdicts.
Who thinks the school should share some responsibility? If so, what does that look like? All they had to do was check his backpack
Agreed! There was every reason for the bag to be checked but wasn't
all they had to do was call the police.
@@pattykerrigan7379there is an officer at the school everyday
Agree but the DA said the School will NOT be sued or anything else. They need to get rid of that DA, a RECALL or don't Vote for him again.
I guess, but it's easier to make that assumption now that the school should have done this or that , it's the parents that KNEW they had just bought him a gun
The lack of self awareness with these two was ASTOUNDING. This would have literally never happened if these parents were not what he got. If I was the jury that is what would determine their fate. Would this have happened if it wasn’t for them? I almost think the mom thought he would take his own life and that’s what she wanted. Ethan is sooooo young and one of few school shooters I have empathy for.
The way his lawyer was fixing his collar and rubbed his back, gross

Too late to shake your head now😡
Do lawyers need to dress their clients? The care this lawyer gave to Crumbley is as if he is 6 years of age.
My condolences to all the parents and the Oxford community
I seriously hope this case does alarm parents: the appalling number of parents who are abusing alcohol, abusing drugs or just not willing to do the hard yards of effective parenting is out of control. It's about time parents are held accountable for the crimes of their children where negligence and dereliction of parental duties can be clearly shown.

@@hs7wings : what a Foolish statement.
During the trial, the the attorney for James kept bringing up the fact that this area lots of people own guns. The jury is of that area, peers of James, and they saw how careless reckless even.
Dean of students is responsible too. If his back pack was heavy and she didn't check it then what the hell was the matter with her??
Right everyone is responsible except the child?
This is a policy issue. Hopefully they will update given the circumstances. Teachers/ administration could not search personal property without reasonable suspicion. Since the shooter had not made overt threats they thought he was just depressed. Also not uncommon for students to have heavy backpacks due to size and weight of textbooks.

From now on... Parents are responsible!
School employees are not babysitters, or enforcers of the law. Mom and Dad couldn’t be bothered with Their son, he was an unplanned baby. Those poor innocent children that lost their lives that day for being good kids and going to class.
Sad all the way around
Did they ever say which witnesses this idiot called and threatened?

How and Why is the SCHOOL gonna be held accountable ?
Hallelujah
You say that now. Now anyone can be held responsible for someone else's actions.
@@hs7wings NOT True, little one.
Sadly, there are parents like the Crumbly's in every school. You just don't know about them because there is no reason for them to make it known. 😢
And some of school shooters don't even attend that school. Explain that please. Then what do you do or who do you blame. I am glad a parent is finally held accountable for a child's action. But when they're grown then who do you blame. Oh the gun???
Every parent is like them. You raise your children to the best of your abilities bit when they walk out the door, you never know.
I'm also curious about the influence those violent video "games" had on the mindset of Shooter.
Parents, please be mindful. Teens can be so very impressionable. Teach them well; show them even better. ❤
Why video games and not movies or cartoons? I don't know of any video games that torture animals or have rape fantasies.
The horrid video games should be banned!
BAD bad parents
He literally looks like the devil and may he rot in jail.
I've also had enough of the media spending way too much broadcast time on this case. It's done and over with. Enough is enough already.
I hope this sets a precedence for other parents, however remember, there are in fact cases where the parent is completely responsible, locking items up separately, yet a mentally ill child, or even an evil child will always find a way, so while I agree that the Crumbly’s are responsible, not all parents who carry are being careless. Personally, I don’t have kids, nor do I carry. I’m just trying to balance things out here.
Ethan looks just like him, simple-minded and smug.
Prayers for all family members, and Friends
And the Dean of students who went up to Ethan’s classroom, got his backpack thought it was heavy and didn’t look inside to see the gun and handed it back to Ethan
He’s also responsible for the lives lost that day!
So glad he was also found guilty and not just mom. I was worried sexism would be at play, blaming moms more than dads.
Society does seem to think Moms are more responsible adults than Dad's in many cases until suddenly a bitter dude is paying child support and trying to dodge it, or man up. Society has too long held double standards among adults based on gender.
Shameful that he is shaking his head as if he disagrees or is in disbelief. Your son killed children and you bought him the gun! Shameful, shameful
This is a good precedent for the country. Guns are the number one killer of children in America. The states are loosening gun laws with no regard for public health or safety. With rights comes responsibility.
🤦♀️ Mental Health kills more people.
Wrong this sends the message: Anyone can be held responsible for someone else's actions. Gun's don't kill, people do and not always with guns.
@@hs7wings The message that it sends is if you have a child in crisis as a parent you are responsible for addressing it immediately. You don’t give yourself child a weapon of mass destruction for therapy.

The current law is both the district and administrators have governmental immunity. A different Oakland County judge already made this ruling?
Good luck to you all. Parents better watch out

The reporter sounds like she's drunk
Does anyone know how long did it take the jury to decide James C guilty verdict ?
What about the school being held to same as parents, school let James to remain in school and didn’t check bag pack! Principle or counselor should be held accountable too!

had they taken ANY steps, anything, they wouldn't have been on trial.
