- Welcome back to Stick to Football, brought to you by Sky Bet, and we are delighted to bring you a transfers special with our full-fit panel of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, Roy Keane and Ian Wright.
The January transfer window is open so we kick off the show with a huge debate: who should sign players at a football club?
Jamie and Gary never left their respected teams whereas Jill, Roy and Ian all eventually moved away from their clubs where they became legends; find out how life altered for the trio with their departures.
Gary also remembers how Sir Alex Ferguson dealt with signing players as well as the time he tried to convince Steven Gerrard to join Manchester United whilst on international duty.
Roy talks about his transfer stories as Sunderland manager and opens up on his sudden departure at Manchester United whilst Ian reveals the French revolution Arsene Wenger brought about at Arsenal alongside David Dean and the current business plan at the Emirates under Edu and Mikel Arteta.
Jamie recalls how Rafa Benitez changed recruitment at Liverpool and why despite being one of the top teams in Europe it always felt like an internal battle at Anfield.
Finally, Jill chats about the transfer procedure and differences in the women’s game and her own ambitions of wanting to become a manager.
If you liked the episode don't forget to let us know in the comments and if you want to listen only you can catch Stick to Football on all major podcast platforms.

Whoever decided to film the pre show chat is a genius. Wrighty loving phoenix nights, keane slagging off santa, brilliant stuff.
100 % Agree... Has me having Biscuits and Tea as well. 😂😂😂
And Roy giving Gary the stare for calling the time a waste 😂
Only Roy would give it to Santa.....😂😂

90% of podcast do this, its normal.
That first 10 minutes of just chat and jokes, couple of stories thrown in… so good. That’s the camaraderie and the vibe panel or talk shows or podcast tries to generate or duplicate. Please always include it.
Well said
I really like what Ian Wright brought to the show. He stands out like no other
Yeah it was good , the genuinely didn’t seem to know that was going to be used in the show and all came across well especially wrighty- must be great trading war stories having the football life - non of them came across as a dick
If they always include then they would know they are on camera it wouldn’t be the same
I was hoping it stays like that the whole time
Love Roy for standing firm and saying the first 10 minutes wasn’t wasted time just friends catching up.
People get so busy in life these days they forget to enjoy these small joys!
Well done Roy
always in captain mode
1:27 “29 in the league and 5 in the cup, so 35 overall” Wrighty is a national treasure!
How many pens?
Can't believe someone didn't pull him up on that😂
Ian really does show how easy it is to be complimentary and how good it makes people feel! Always good vibes
Not many people speak badly about Ian.
Ian bring so much to the show. They just get rid off the others and use just him.
LOVE the dude!!!
@@As-qz5lr then it wouldn’t be the show would it. Geezus
@@As-qz5lr LOL OK Ian.
Wrighty not going to the euros after getting the golden boot is outrageous
Sounds like something Southgate would do

@@mrbeanie5314but sol campbell, ugo ehiogu, les ferdinand, john barnes and paul ince were in the squad?
Wrighty acknowledging the production staff at the start was pure class.
Roy Keanes little smile after Gary mentiones having a stylist has brought me pure joy.
The casual chats at the beginning is iconic, absolutely golden, please continue to show this as it's such a good insight :)
Those aren't casual chats the whole thing is scripted as soon as they walk in the room even the makeup people are props.
only thing thats scripted is the topic of the podcast, what are you on about

Like Ian’s boot 😂
A little Irish angel
Thats his job
We know he is we hear an see it every video come on chief give it a rest now bootlicking
Especially when he’s not angry after a Man Utd shitshow. He’s very insightful and has very good input on football in general. Real type of fella.
Roy saying that he couldn't play for another English club after UTD is ultimate respect for the club even though they push him out. True legend 🙌

@@As-qz5lrthis comment...the 1 you keep saying over and over is boring now. Also it wouldnt be a show with just him would it...talking rubbish you are
@@As-qz5lr decent bloke but his opinions on football have and always will be horrendous. so no they shouldn't just have his delusion.
Look at how Carra already knows the story about Wright’s golden boot and still ask questions and Gary’s on about f*cking satsumas then changes the subject. Carra absolutely loves talking about football fair play
Gary really can be a bore, haven't a clue what Carra sees in him
I found it quite rude. It felt like he was trying to change the subject
@@Chxrgerifle I kinda thought the same too
That was the "behind the scenes" section? Surely those are edited scenes. They are all in their zones chatting rubbish. People seriously need to chill out. Its not that deep.
You may be right about the editing part but I’ve seen Gary do this before in another video if I can find the link I’d send it
Can you imagine Roy going to Lapland kids excited to see Santa & Roy saying that’s his job 😂
He did go and said it was overrated and his trip lasted one day
Never expected that out of all of them, it's Roy who's defending about not wasting time. He was berating Gary that they were all having a good time chatting before the show started, that it's not a waste of time. It's clear that he enjoys being in the company of these people and the crew. 🙂
Wrighty getting away with giving himself a cheeky extra goal at 1:24
Thought I misheard him lol 😂
😂😂😂
Pre season friendly 😂
29+5=35..
I know.
Roy & Ian are a brilliant combo. so funny.
Defo agree, they bounce off each other & have good banter
That's it. Roy likes Wrighty so has a bit more craic with him. He's the same with Micah Richards but I'd prefer Wrighty over Micah
Mica richards must be jealoua
Every time I hear Ian talk about being left out of the England squad I feel like I hurt for him. Seeing someone express how they feel being denied something they clearly feel so passionate about and worked so hard to achieve is heartbreaking.
No you dont
Heartbreaking 😅 don’t forget to zip his trousers back up after you’re done
This is what you want. No Stress, no toxicity, just great friendly chat from a great team. Never stop doing this!
He’s called Santa …
that was hilarious thanks J😂
It still shocks me that wrighty is 60. what a king
That’s blown my mind.
Genuinely could just sit here and watch these guys chat away for the whole of the pod, like they did in the first 10 minutes. It’s just such vibes man… 👌🏼
Being a United fan, this is honestly one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. Love gary, love Roy and love how Roy seems to be opening up more and more with each episode. Heroes
As a hardcore Liverpool fan I just have to say this - I absolutely LOVE Keano... and Neville is good fun too. This show is amazing.
Exactly mate, i hated them two more than any during the playing days, but I grew up and now I realise what a great pair of lads they are and both very likeable. Wrighty is a lovely bloke as well!
Keane moreso than Neville, Neville's bias in commentary the last year or so is starting to show through again but I really rated him before that
Not a scouser then?
With you mate but it still makes you feel dirty
Hi Footie Fans 👋 We Grade Premier League Transfer Rumours On Our Channel! Check it out 👍🏻
What i love about Carragher is that he never rushes into answering a question. He listens, analyses, and builds his argument. At 12:21 He applies himself to the best of his intellectual ability for the sport of football. Truly admirable.
He's the best around carragher top pundit
So true❤
That behind the scenes bit was long enough to warrant a compilation of all the best behind the scenes moments from this panel. Absolutely loved it
My favorite part of the show is before the show starts where they’re just chatting it up, you can tell they get along and work very well together. It’s been good to see more of it as the show has continued.
I grew up watching these legends and get nostalgic listening to their stories about the early Premier League years.
Been loving Wrighty's choice of hats episode to episode
Just enjoy the upload. Don't be always complaining
They get more and more jaunty. Expecting a feather cap soon
Thought he’d keep the baldy was happy
Ian brings so much to the show. They could get rid off the others and use just him.
@@As-qz5lr No they couldn't.
It's the Roy Keane show and we all know it.
As a Cork man myself, I see Roy in a video and I click it
Everyone needs a friend in their life like Ian Wright ❤
That roy keane story about matty taylor had me in stitches 😂😂
I don't think he realises that Taylor was probably scared to tell him no to his face. 😂
This is by far the best thing on any platform at the moment, love it guys.
I love how Roy says how is that wasted time, are we too busy to chat these days. This whole panel complement each other so well. If ever a show works it is this, and the best thing is I got to watch them play in their heyday. Never did I think 30 years later they would all be laughing and drinking tea together on a successful football show. I look forward to every episode and I hope that they continue as it makes me happy watching this 😊
Love this show. But I often think to myself, that Mr. Pigden must have had an amazing influence on Wrighty. He seems such a kind and genuine man.
It's just impossible not to love Wrighty. Wasn't old enough to watch him play, but I bet he was a great footballer and even better human.
Great player. Wore his heart on his sleeve and celebrated every goal with unadulterated joy. Used to love watching him, one of the best strikers in prem history
loll I think Gary breaking Roy around the 4:30 mark is probably the most "guard down" the public have ever seen Keano
Ian Wright is an absolute treasure…never mind his footballing legacy…the guy is a diamond of a human being 💙
Roy’s smile at the intro is golden - absolute legend
And he said smiling is overrated 😂
I love the filming of the casual conversation before the first cut. It's really unique and great to see you all having a chat and enjoying each other's company.
I just love this show!!!

Roy and wrighty has to be a show
They should make a football travel show. They would be great in the road together interacting with football cultures all over the world
Roy 'N' Righty. Nice ring to it.

Same energy as the funny cute doss about training sessions England admin upload to youtube. Nice way to get to know the real personalities
That was an incredibly vulnerable episode. You all brought the humanity to footballers that we as fans never consider. Thank you!
The behind the scenes, the laughs and the friendships. Pure magic. Please never stop this
Omg.
Ive been saying since Ralfs sacking that he was only sacked because the glazers were terrified of how brutally honest he was, he wasnt just going to keep quite and said a harsh truth which is we need a complete rebuild.
Nice to see Gary and Mark now agreeing
I don't believe that, I believe ten haag didn't want to work with him.
@@jhaych why do you believe that? Is that based on any actual evidence, or just because you dont like ETH?
Logic says that ETH would want Ralf to support him, why wouldn't he?
Logic also says that the glazers absolutely hate being painted in a bad light - as evidenced by Jose sacking and them asking Ineos/Qatar to stop digging them out during negotiations.
@@jhaychETH all but said it himself at his first press conference. He was asked about Ragnicks recommendations directly and he said he wanted to come to his own determinations. It was definitely a red flag for me at the time!
@@samwize28 I don't like ten haag? I love ten haag, I am backing him and supporting him 100%.
According to Fabrizio Romano ten haag spoke to ralf on a zoom meeting or something within them lines and it was meant to be about 2 hours long, however, it only lasted around 10 minutes and ten haag basically told ralf he didn't plan or want to proceed with Ralf in his projected position.
Clearly ten haag didn't feel like Ralf aligned with what he wanted. Just a quick Google search would even suggest this, but I can remember Fabrizio breaking the story.
Ralf only said what we already knew really in all honesty.
Nah Ralf got shite results and wasn't part of 10Hag's plans
This is the only must see viewing I have now in my life. Absolutely compelling from start to finish and totally unmissable.
Little mention for Liam Miller, class from Roy
I am really feeling grateful that I can see these legends talking their heart out about their trade and i am absolutely loving it week in week out. Keane and Wright what a pair ❤
Very smart timing. Will watch tonight while falling asleep and have to watch again tomorrow cos I’ve forgotten most of it 😂
Double views 😂
"Jesus Christ, everyone's so busy to chat these days" - Roy literally summarised 21st century in one line.
That story of the player texting from the car and driving off is hilarious. Love this show for the little stories like this
I caught some of this on Spotify but nothing beats the video version on here. Love the banter, the discussions. It helps that everyone on here is genuine and likeable...even Carra! 🤣
As a Liverpool fan, if Stevie G signed for United I think I'd have stopped watching football altogether
I remember during the great game in Istanbul the announcers were wondering if he would return
Fine player but he wouldn't have worked in midfield, would've been brilliant at 10 like that season he played behind Torres.
@jl91iii Like, he was England's best player in Euro 2012 as a deep lying playmaker. If you don't think Fergie would have molded him, just say it. Man was already a great b2b midfielder in the mid-noughties under Houiller.
Absolutely
certainly would of been really tough to see that
Gary just used the entire show to try and solve a Salford problem…. and got nowhere 😂
How to solve a problem like ..Salford 🎶😊
Actually really interesting hearing Gary's perspective as an owner and Roy's perspective as a manager.
As a Liverpool fan I just Love what Wrighty brings to any show. Such a gem of a guy...
Liam Miller, god rest his soul 🍀
I get that this hits late in the UK but for Ontario Canada it’s the best thing to watch on a Tuesday evening.
Go Canada go! 🇨🇦 🍁
I can watch this all day, it’s such a comfort show. I’m surprised I’m watching this on my day off, seriously been missing out. First ever full podcast I’ve ever watched.
Loved Ian at Burnley, he was great fun and really inspired the team to promotion that year. I remember him popping up outside the window in the coach ceiling when they got back to the Turf after the game at Scunthorpe when they had a huge turn out of fans to welcome them back - you could see there the influence he had on the squad, they loved him. Top guy.
Just love Wright's energy, so much positivity 🙌
These podcasts are absolutely brilliant. I wish this was weekly for the rest of the year
Roy’s recurring “good lad” joke makes me laugh every time
Could honestly listen to Ian and Roy's stories all day. Brilliant stuff.
Ian going in on Gary straight away is just what I need at this time in the morning. These guys are a great combo. Get 2 episodes a week boys 🎉
Carra showing here he's easily the best pundit in England. The only one to be able to see beyond a player's perspective and see that the game has evolved past the Fergie era, and now every successful club operates with sporting directors making transfer decisions
agreed the man lives and breathes football and the disrespect he gets, especially from some newer generation Liverpool fans, is a disgrace.

The first 10 minutes is what makes this show even better.
Phoenix nights is honestly the most underrated piece of comedy since only fools and horses. Family fun day had me in pieces.

I have to say this is the best thing CZcams has ever done. It’s a perfect combination of personalities and stories, I love it.
Awwww how touching
It's easily my favourite podcast. Adore the anecdotes and the chemistry is remarkable!
Ian is a good storyteller .it really helps the show too.
Feel like with the whole signing thing Jamie is spot on Clubs gives the manager options the manager either says no, says yes or says I will try and make it work(Salah example) if klopp had have outright said No then he probably wouldn’t have been signed but he said I trust your decision not my preference but will try and make it work.
Cant tell you how much I look forward to this.
As an Arsenal fan that grew up in the 90s and 00s I never ever thought I would like Roy and Gary so much. Wrighty of course is pure class.
this podcast is my favourite out of all of them - love listening to it on my way to and from work. massive love to these legends!!! ❤❤❤
Managers and sporting directors need to agree on transfers, and that's why the relationship between sporting director and manager is so important. If they aren't on the same page then it always leaves sour grapes somewhere, either from the manager or above, and that always ends up impacting performance on the pitch.
Absolutely adore the pre-show chats.
Is it just me, or is this series seriously excellent. So natural and authentic.
No it’s not just you
Gary was spot on with the insight that a single bad transfer window can set you back a couple of years with the wrong hierarchy to boot…man is spitting facts…
Completely agree & United have had 10 bad transfer windows in a row - that's 30 years done!
