Also wanted to add what a great point to make by the Dr. and Coyote that T's aren't just going to jump our and bite unless strongly provoked
It's always a good idea in taking a first aid EMT class it never hurts to know what to do and the important part of not panic when you know what to do. I keep a basic first aid kit + food and and water for 3 days. I live in California and I go out to the desert a lot. In my real life I'm a photographer

The discussion about the difference in venom yields of adults and juvenile snakes is really interesting, I heard that in a defensive bite, juveniles often inject more venom than an adult as a juvenile hasn't learned to meter out the amount of venom it delivers for defence. Snakes normally will only use the venom it requires to take down the specific size of prey. With us being so big, juveniles will just empty the venom gland where adults will only use enough as a deterrent and keep the rest of it's precious venom for prey.

I really liked the end of the podcast where you talked about medical attention for bites and how to go about it. Hopefully, I never get bit (I don't handle), but if I do, I'll take some photos and use the scientific names!
I was bitten by my adult female p.formosa.. I can give graphic details on the physical and envenomation.. including symptoms that doesn't include anaphylaxis.

Great podcast! I've been bit by brown recluse..experience some tissue degeneration luckily I work with surgeons and they were able to drain and give me crazy strong antibiotics within first few hours!

Was camping last fall up near Payton Arizona and almost stepped on what assumed was a tarantula based on size (palm), leg thickness, & hair (I don’t know much). We took photos then moved it (we tried to sho it away but it was content on just chilling in our campsite) it was so docile that it hopped in a container and allowed me to take it a couple hundred yards from the campsite so it wouldn’t get crushed by one us drunks going to the cooler for a beer.

I'm already aware of the bites Mr. Yote has taken from various animals. I got a cool selection of some Asian tarantulas he should have a look at if he is willing to. I wouldn't use my personal spiders but the ones I'm thinking of absolutely packs a huge punch as far as the effects of their venom way after the fact of taking a bite. Omothymus,lampropelma,and some of the Cyriopagopus species. They rank right up there with pokies.

43:22 what Ive been told is baby snakes can often inject MORE venom than adults because they dont have as good control of it. Dont know if its true. Of course bigger snakes are capable of injecting more, but they want to save it 1:12:54 has anyone ever gone actually blind or had permanently reduced eyesight as a result of urnicating hair getting in their eyes? I think the risk of that should be taken really seriously. Either way its sensible to just try to avoid the discomfort thats probably pretty serious too and those who dont likely end up seriously regretting
Awesome stuff. A Tarantula bit me once (20 years ago) it was a dry bite and wasn't bad at all. One time I got stung by 20 or so wasps and that was painful LOL I fear wasps more than I fear Tarantulas. = )

Im in the UK and I once got bitten on the face by what turned out to be a false widow*, my bottom lip swelled up to the point it looked and felt like it might burst, resulting in 2 trips to hospital. the 2nd time I had blood tests taken etc they rushed the results and when they came back they told me I had nothing to worry about regards the bite(given anti histamines and antibiotics) but that they had also discovered I was diabetic, so ultimately the bite saved my life
*i was bitten while in bed and found the spider so was able to identify it
What about the sand spiders, no known anti venom

I'm much more fearful and of my P. ornata than any of my deadly scorpions.
Just because scorpions can't climb the walls of their enclosures and 20 inch tongs make them so much less of a hazard imo.
Still comfortable with all my inverts but the ornata is definitely the "worst" of my menagerie

In a lot of medical reports of bites by Poecis and H Macs the patients were treated with high doses of calcium and magnesium. Perhaps because they function as an anti-histamine, but I am not a medical professional, I just thought that was interesting. (Half way through, maybe they mention it later.)

I got stung by a giant hairy scorpion, bit by a desert blonde tarantula and stung by a scorpion of i dont know what kind it was in tucson in 2022.

IMO With Sydney funnel webs their incredibly reclusive and reliant on their webbing to properly observe and profile their prey due to their bad eyesight. Aside from their venom potency, fangs and defensive stance, their physical physic isn't as speedy or agile like our other spiders etc. With also males being the common wonderers (unless a funnel webs home is infiltrated) so IMO their like rabbits with fangs, having that fear for everything without the help of their webbing making their defensiveness the only thing that protect them. sorry if i gt anything wrong i just own a few species and find that when their in their hole/tunnel/webbing their not as defensive. Plus with homes and tents having a high humidity im not surprised the male funnel webs think that they might find their honnney there haha still ofc be cautious haha love your videos!! and cant wait to see more!
Try chewing gun to pull out the hairs. Short story, my wife will chew gum before she uses a knife to cut the thorns off of cactus before she washes and puts them on a grill for us to eat. After she is done removing the thorns from the cactus, she will take the gum out of her mouth and use it to pull the thorns out of her hands. She is the only person that i have seen do that, mind you. But it works. Just a thought.

I recorded the podcast a few years ago and uploaded to my 2nd channel. I cut out a few clips and made teo 10 minute videos for this channel. Now that CZcams has launched a podcast section on channel pages, I am moving over all my old podcasts from the 2nd channel to my Main Channel. 23:09 exactly the reason I find it ludicrous that your laws allow importation of basically any venomous species from around the world! Couple that with the huge risk of escaped specimens becoming feral populations with devastating effects on the native wildlife.
