  • In this quick video I show how to mix dry pack or deck mud mortar in a trash bag. No need for a mud box, mixer, or other container to mix mortar in. The trash bag is an efficient and easy way to mix one bag of mortar at a time. Also, when you are done you do not need to find another trash bad to dispose of the extra mortar!

    As a tile guy that’s been through hundreds of videos. This has to be the best advice I’ve ever seen. thank you very much.

      Do you have to firmly pack down the deck mud? As in compact it as “much” as possible with your arms?

    Tried this yesterday on a job site for the first time. Worked beautifully! I will never bring a pan or shovels to a job site again. Thanks for posting!!

    I totally dig your videos. Most people would use the lack of "standard" tools as an excuse to go home for the day. This video shows how a guy with ambition can keep moving forward. 👍 Brother.

    Nice, this was the same way my tile contractor used to mix the mud he used for our shower. Cool to see other people do it too. It seemed like an ingenious way to do it.

    Love this tip! You don't always have a lot of space to work with when doing bathrooms, so even using a mixing pan or wheel barrow is not a good option. Not to mention, the bag contains the dust and makes for easy clean up. Great idea and content!

    That's a great method for a smaller mix. If doing large mixes I prefer using a front tine rototiller and mixing on top of 2 pieces of masonite board. Shovel your mix into some 5 gal buckets and you're set.

    This worked perfectly for me...with the first bag of mortar. The second bag of mortar caused the bag to leak and thankfully i had a plan B and was able to pour the contents of the bag into a mixing pan. My bag was 3 mils thick.

    • @andycho7810
      @andycho7810 Před 2 lety

      it depends hugely on substrate / humidity / temperature and what kind of cement you use. standard portland cement 1:4 mix yes around a couple of hours usually, mapei mapecem is about half working time in all conditions

    The recipe for mapei mud bed mix is way off. You definitely want it wetter than what they say. I had to rip mine up twice because it was too dry. If it's too dry, you don't activate the concrete component of it

    • @andycho7810
      @andycho7810 Před 2 lety

      it works fine if you compact it down enough, I've been following instructions on the bags here in NZ for as long as I can remember. but different regions may have different formulas so your mileage may very well vary :)

      When you can suck it up with a vacuum the next day not good!! I would also prefer a little on the wet side just to be safe , but too wet and you can't screed it properly and pack it!! Home depot carries quikrete sand topping mix which works good!!
