- In this quick video I show how to mix dry pack or deck mud mortar in a trash bag. No need for a mud box, mixer, or other container to mix mortar in. The trash bag is an efficient and easy way to mix one bag of mortar at a time. Also, when you are done you do not need to find another trash bad to dispose of the extra mortar!

As a tile guy that’s been through hundreds of videos. This has to be the best advice I’ve ever seen. thank you very much.
Do you have to firmly pack down the deck mud? As in compact it as “much” as possible with your arms?
Tried this yesterday on a job site for the first time. Worked beautifully! I will never bring a pan or shovels to a job site again. Thanks for posting!!
I totally dig your videos. Most people would use the lack of "standard" tools as an excuse to go home for the day. This video shows how a guy with ambition can keep moving forward. 👍 Brother.
Nice, this was the same way my tile contractor used to mix the mud he used for our shower. Cool to see other people do it too. It seemed like an ingenious way to do it.
Tile Coach wears the most dapper of hats!
Love this tip! You don't always have a lot of space to work with when doing bathrooms, so even using a mixing pan or wheel barrow is not a good option. Not to mention, the bag contains the dust and makes for easy clean up. Great idea and content!
This is an amazing tip. My mind is blown.
I searched for garbage bag mixing thinking i was so stupid and lack of professionalism... im with you all lol im doing this later today
Wow. Im impressed.. Great tip and perfect "snowball" consistancy. My tell on mix ratio is i will form a snowball and toss is up and catch firmly. Should fall apart on the third catch. To wet is not your friend!!! Thanks man!!
That's awesome Isaac, I do all are mud pans with the dry pack, I might have to try the bag idea thanks for sharing
Tried this method...worked flawlessly! Thanks for the pointer!
That is just brilliant! Perfect for small batches. 👍
Better and faster then with the drill I think. Saves a bucket too lol good idea. I'll try that next time
I used this with SpeedSlope and it worked great! Thanks for the great tip!
Out of all things, I hate mixing sand mix. This is amazing.
Excellent job
Never thought to mix it this way!
man that's such a good way to do it. I'm going to try this on the next shower screed. :)
It’s one way like to do that; especially in finished homes when remodeling just a bathroom. Will also use a garbage can that has flat bottom as well.
That is awesome. Great tip. 👍
That's a great method for a smaller mix. If doing large mixes I prefer using a front tine rototiller and mixing on top of 2 pieces of masonite board. Shovel your mix into some 5 gal buckets and you're set.
This worked perfectly for me...with the first bag of mortar. The second bag of mortar caused the bag to leak and thankfully i had a plan B and was able to pour the contents of the bag into a mixing pan. My bag was 3 mils thick.
Using the ledger board at the end for quickly mudding a pan perfectly level seems like a Life hack I Never thought of...where was that Gem of an idea for your pitching a pan videos?
Excellent
I just did it 2 days ago. Mix longer than you think you need to. Mine came out lumpy and was a pain to work, but ended up good.
Very smart!
Slick trick!
COOL TRICK.
lovely , do castles made of deck mud drift into the sea , eventually ?
How much water would you use with the 55lb bag. The recommended amount of water seems like it’s too much.
Nice
Does the sakrete Sand mix Toping and Bedding works the same as sakrete deck mud or the Mapei 4 to 1? Would the cure the same for the for the hydo ban application?
Quikrete sand/ topping mix sold at home depot!!
Can you do quickrete concrete bags this way?
Wow. So simple. Took only a few minutes. No cleanup. Just toss the bag when done.
How much working time do I have to get the deck mud sloped and smoothed out in the shower once I have it mixed up?
About an hour
Thats smart..
I can’t find the dry pack in Home Depot in Canada 🇨🇦 I hope they start getting it
That's a crossfit work out. Instead of lifting tires you just move cement bags around
Can I use hydroband to water proofing my plywood floor before put my title directly on top?
Your city inspector will have that answer.
@@MattCupan city inspector? What's that?
🤯🤯🤯😱
What is ballpark working time on sand/ cement mix?…om assuming couple hours?
it depends hugely on substrate / humidity / temperature and what kind of cement you use. standard portland cement 1:4 mix yes around a couple of hours usually, mapei mapecem is about half working time in all conditions

🏖😎🏖😎
I did this today as I was doing my first deck mud pan. It worked amazing Also using the amazing FloFX drain like the Coach teaches. So far job is turning out amazing thanks to my CZcams Tile Coach lessons.
2 and a half galon by bag 50 pounds?
1 weird trick
What is a "mil"?
Is the United States government getting that involved in plastic measurements?
Good workout unless your backache is making u quitte DIY
The recipe for mapei mud bed mix is way off. You definitely want it wetter than what they say. I had to rip mine up twice because it was too dry. If it's too dry, you don't activate the concrete component of it
it works fine if you compact it down enough, I've been following instructions on the bags here in NZ for as long as I can remember. but different regions may have different formulas so your mileage may very well vary :)
When you can suck it up with a vacuum the next day not good!! I would also prefer a little on the wet side just to be safe , but too wet and you can't screed it properly and pack it!! Home depot carries quikrete sand topping mix which works good!!
