Part 26 - Revealing Mystery Moulds I found on Gumtree

- This is the series where I reveal what is inside these pottery moulds I found on Gumtree.
The story goes, I found a listing on gumtree for pottery stuff. When I arrived the seller said 'I have all these pottery moulds would you like them as well?' and I said 'why not'. On the way home, I had the brain child to do a social media video series revealing what each mould is.
The mystery is in the fact that I had no idea what I had said yes to, some of the moulds are labelled and easy to tell but some of them are a little more difficult. The beauty is that all of the plaster moulds surprise you no matter the presentation of labels, titles or identifiable surface inside.
So come join me as I dive into this series and share the mould fun. I would love to hear any information you may have on the moulds and to let me know any stories you have that the moulds remind you of in the comments.
Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

Shelby

I walked into my roommate's room to ask her to look at something while she was drawing, and I ended up seeing this video on her screen and standing in there and watching the rest of it with her while she told me about this channel. Your art is so stellar, Shelby!! I'm so glad I found your channel
It would be pretty cool to serve a fish chowder to each person in their own personal crab dish with a lid to keep it hot! That would be so cute.
When you pour him again to do the corals, you should also do one with the blown bubbles technique that you used on the alligators. Love your videos and hope that when these run out you will buy another bunch to surprise us with ❤️
I totally love this idea! It would look so very fabulous I think! I definitely have something teed up if we run out but I don't see that happening for a long time!
@@ShelbySherritt Yes lol your shelf looks as if it will keep you busy for quite a long time!
I'd fill the bowl with some sand, and use them as an incense burning platform. That way, after the incense is done, I can put the lid on top and make sure my pets don't get into the sand
Am from Maryland (well, grew up there). These are tourist pieces... sold in many shops. They’re pretty cool for people who collect crab pieces; though I never saw the appeal myself, there are a lot more of said people than you’d think. They’re generally used as keepsake boxes, jewelry boxes, and decoration! Often you can buy them as the box, or combined into one piece with a hole in the bottom. I have seen many of them with a rough fabric interior, like canvas, as well.
Crab dip. Love the blue one too! Blue crab is one of my favorites. This was adorable like the way they came out. ♡
Thank you so much for the love!
H-please yes, CRAB DIP!!
The other thing I thought of was melted butter for crab legs/ or a crab/lobster boil.
You said "crab" and I thought "aw. Not cute 🙁".
Every single one of them is HECKING ADORABLE! You transformed them! I especially love the flowers 💜
For crab dip of course! Or maybe to store seashells?
I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF CRAB DIP!? That is so new to me!
He is adorable!!! I can see a seafood bisque being served in it. A phenomenal trinket dish as well!!
Thank you! Definitely!
I. LOVE. CRABS. 🦀
This is by far my favorite mould reveal! They all turned out so cute and colorful!!
the algorithm got me into this series based on nothing that i can tell, but your videos made me want to get back into pottery so badly. i used to go to a studio to throw on the wheel every week, years ago, and i haven't missed it as much as i do now in ages. you remind me of how fun it was and make me want to play around and be creative and improve at it! i'm going to look into classes near me as soon as i have time
I love how glazes can surprise you. I once used like a bronze toned glaze with a clear glaze on top to make it shine but when it got out of the kiln it had like an oxidated bronze-greenish look. It wasn't the look I was going for but it is probably one of my favourite creatures I made.
That’s a really great illustration of how potters and ceramicists thrive on a special kind of disposition - they’re artists who can cope with not always being perfectly in control of how a piece turns out. Patience, persistence, and curiosity are all necessary to find the craft enjoyable rather than frustrating!
These crabs are so precious! I love these mystery mold videos they always brighten my mood.
Yay, this makes me so happy to hear
I LOVE the abalone shell glaze!! Absolutely stunning. I love this series 💖 thank you
They are ALL beautiful, and I have a lot of rings that I would put in there. :) the ombre one is my personal fave.
Love the pinkish red one!!
I think you could use it as a butter dish or even a soap dish. So versatile!
The abalone crab is so beautiful! And the floral crab, so cute!
in my experience lids work best when fired on the base, youll want to angle the inside of the top lid towards the middle so it doesnt get caught by shrinkage. My favorite one was the pink purple glaze, I love underpainting but theres just something so special about the organic way glaze moves.
This is definitely what I am doing next time. I was just so into the process that I didn't think ahead about the shrinkage and allowing space for the lid and base to move and change during the firing. I did make sure to fire on the same shelf in the kiln so the different temps at the bottom of the kiln and top of the kiln didn't change the clay. Lessons learnt and now I know for next time to add a bit more of an angle and trim a little more! Thank you for these tips I didn't even think to add an angle only cut off more! VERY HELPFUL
Absolutely love the ombre one, the glazed one is so pretty with the purple hint. The blue one is pretty funky and I honestly think the front is pretty jazzy. Hope you eventually have a go at the coral and barnacle version.
ME too! I think they all came out so groovy! Lots of different aesthetics but all so fun!
These little ones are so cute!! 🦀
The surprise of the last one was amazing, such a standout!! However they all make me smile! 🥰
I totally agree! Thank you so much!
omg the stop motion clip at the beach was soo adorable!! I loveee how these turned out. This is one of my favourite moulds that you've done!
When you were painting just the lid, it looks almost like a Ray & is so cute!
Oh my gosh. I love this fella! 😍 I love crabs and I love this one in particular. What a super mold!
So good! I am so happy you liked this mould!
I would imagine he could be used as a fun appetizer server at a dinner. Here in the US, crab dip (crab meat in a white sauce and A LOT of cheese that’s scooped up and eaten on deep fried tortillas) was and is really popular and is almost impossible to eat as intended unless it’s kept hot.
That sounds so delicious! This is so new to hear and I am so fascinated by this crab dip! Thank you for sharing this!
I love these little dudes! Sea life always get me. The blue one is my favorite
Yes me too! I was always so fascinated as a child, I was determined to be a marine biologist but gee life took a turn for me hahah!
I missed this one when you released it, so have been watching the ones up in the 60's and was thinking this would be really cool to try the soap bubble technique you use on the allegator or was it a crocodile... Anyhow, as you said in that video it would work well for underwater and this has the surface area to make those big and small bubbles really show up. And then you could see if you have better luck getting the lids to fit. 😉😃
The one with flowers 🌸 is uniquely beautiful!
I love them!! I’m binging this series. My favorite is the mushroom mug but boy these are close!
i made one of these in my ceramics class back in the 80's. MIne is full orange. If i remember rightly it was for a single serve seafood mornay dish or any kitch 80's dish. thanks for the memory. they look great.
The Pink has a lot of depth! Love it.
Fill it with pearl bead jewellery.
I love all of them , but the flower one is my absolute favorite one 💓.
Holy cow!!! I love all of these so much!!!! My favorite mold reveal so far!!!!
Hehe thank you so dang much!!
Stunning! It was all worth it for their little stop motion parade 🥰
Wasn't it cute! I had a lot of fun doing that! I am so happy you liked it!
I could see these as individual paella dishes. Its rice and seafood usually shrimp/crayfish with mussels and veggies. I love the coloring of the blue and red one. They look very sweet
OH YES!! I love Paella! That would be perfect especially if you like the seafood version of the dish! Thank you!
So nice - hard to pick a favourite. I love the back on the green and blue one. I think crab dip would be great to serve in this, or maybe even individual seafood chowders for a fun dinner party😊
I think thats my favourite spot too! Now I just need to remember how I achieved it! It definitely sounds like crab dip is the winner!
Love them! I'm in the UK so your videos come out at midnight! I used to watch them on Saturday mornings but I soon couldn't wait and now watch them as soon as you post them 😁😁
You are the best! This makes me so happy! But also, please rest! HAHAHA mould reveals can wait! If you are seeing this I need to send an apology for this mornings reveal as it took way longer to check then it usually does so didn't come out until midday in Australia!
The pinkish red one is my favorite! I think this would be a cool little trinket box. My mom loves the beach so this makes me think of her using it to store little treasures. :)
Being from the states the first thing I thought of when I saw the mold was Blue Soft Shell crabs, it’s a fun color way. These videos are so fun, I was just suggested them so I’m catching up 😊
They probably didn’t fit after glaze fire because they were fired separately. If you fired a lidded piece together, they will move together in the kiln. You just have to make sure there’s no glaze on the gallery and flange so they don’t fuse. These are so super cute though. I love this series so much. ☺️
Definitely trying this next time! Thank you! I have heard a mix of reviews about firing lidded pieces together, I was so scared the glaze would stick so opted to fire separately but next lidded pieces ill fire them together! Thank you so much!!
I _love_ these. They are so cute, and all of your painting came out so nice, and gave each a unique personality.
I would probably use them as a candy dishes, or to store little trinkets.
I love the personality of the 🦀 they look like they came out of a cute story book 📚
Ps. The flower one is my favorite!
OH I love it! A cute little story book indeed!
I love the floral pot best. So stinkin cute.
Gumbo! My mother was from Louisiana and we ate Gumbo! I LOVE your videos!!! They inspire me to get back into painting!😊
Crab dip would be great in it. For family gatherings and parties, it could be a really cute idea.
Great idea!! I love it!
Crab dip would be lovely in any of these vessels. Also I would imagine anybody at Seaside would be able to find some use for one of these in their home. to hold anything from trinkets to candy. Thanks for sharing your talent with the rest of us. Blessings.
I love this mold, I would use it to put on the table during the holidays with my crab dip after it's done as a decorative bowl for the dip. It would be so perfect and cute.
Love these so much! I think crabs would really stump me from a design perspective - they're interesting but they don't fit into any obvious aesthetic for me. I guess that's part of the fun of mystery moulds though!
YES! I thought the same thing! Upon research into the mould I found out it was a french dish? I don't know how accurate that is, but something to serve seafood in! So thats very specific and interesting!
The last one is stunning!
oh my goodness that flower one is so adorable!!! I think they all turned out so beautiful. I know this is an old video so you probably wont see this but you can take a dremel tool around the lid opening to maybe get the lids to fit a bit better or pottery sand paper if its not too much to take off. When I throw lidded pots on the wheel I leave the areas where they touch unglazed so you can get them pretty snug at the greenware stage how you had them. but if you want it to have that glass coating you'd just have to do it like you said
Ooo I’m so excited to see more videos! I absolutely have been loving watching these to de-stress, your voice is so soothing :)
I AM SO HAPPY TO HEAR THIS! Thank you this means so much to me! I am glad they are a moment of peace for you!
The blue and green one is my favorite! It would look awesome in my bathroom!
Love how the red glaze settled into the details of the piece and really brought them out.
Thank you so much!
I think the crab dish would be fabulous on the coffee table to hold the television remote or whatever remotes you have to keep track of. I really like the idea of painting the shell with sea creatures, barnacles, and anemones. I know this sounds corny but you could write on the shell.... don't be crabby your keys are right here.... and it could sit by the door and hold car keys or house key.😊👍 I love the ocean if you have a glaze technique for making it look like waves rolling in and maybe you could use aqua....
I need something like this so bad I love sea/ocean/water animals and crabs are so adorable! I loved this video and you did a rlly good job:)
So glad to see the beautiful blue crab! Im from Maryland, U.S.A. and blue crabs are a really big symbol for my home state ((:
Does anyone else see baby yoda or is it just me, you should do one to look like it.
Hehe I might have to! I have had a few comments about that!
You are so right! The abalonian shell looking one's glacing was stunning on the back side!!! That was AWESOME!!! Also, really liked the pink glace. But other ones did not pop to my eyes. This time 😅
I noticed that my taste changes between pieces which is kind of interesting 😅
The fourth crab looks like the color of a poisonous octopus!! I love these!
That last one turned out amazing!
Honestly, I wouldn't mind the fact that the lid doesn't close. I see that beauty in a store and I buy it to put chocolates or anything in the center of the table and I would be so happy, really. They have turned out beautiful
Seeing the shape my mind went to the Garthrim from the dark Crystal straight away. Enjoying your videos as I sit at my desk drawing my horses.
Every video so far ..I have been wishing you do this one .. yay.. sooo excited
I really was dubious about the floral crab...but in the end, when you revealed them, it instantly went to the top of the batch...
Aww, the flower one is so cute! A little weird and a bit fancy ❤️ definitely a conversation starter…
I made this back in the 80s and used it to serve hot crab dip. It was so cute, but yours is cuter! Love your videos!❤
Recently found these vids and I love them!! You make adorable stuff!
Thank you so much for your love and support!
I love your videos! I learn something new every time, very informative and makes me want to start doing pottery! 😊
Crab dip, chowder, etc!lol cute
I have an ashtray that is a very similar design. It's claws are up though so it can hold stuff in them. Very cute! I'd put a crab bisque in this dish. Yum!
Oh crab! So cute!
HEHEH I sea what you did there? ;)
The abalone shell is AMAZING. I love how the glaze transforms in the kiln.
I adore these little dudes! Would love one to pop my special keepsakes in 😊
Stunning!!!💜💜💜
Crab!! So adorable
I just love this one so much! They're all so cute.
Thank you so much!
I love it !!!
Omg some crab fried rice look amazing served in that!
This has been my fave video so far, I absolutely love the crabs! Your work is fab 🦀🦀🦀
Thank you so much! They were a whole lot of fun! A shame the lids don't shut properly but I am in love regardless!
I honestly wasn't sure I would like the crab with the flowers, but it's my favorite! They are dope AF!
That last one was perfectly my style, though I don't mind the red gradient one either. I'd definitely use this for a crab dip or individual crab bake. I do hope you come back to these one day and try to perfect them with what you learned from making them! 😀
My first thought was to use this as a powder dish. My paternal grandmother had this very luxurious smelling powder that she kept in a special dish and put on after a bath.
I love this!
the abalone shell crab is so gorgeous omg
My favorites are the two glaze ones I would use them for some sort of crab dip or just a candy or little things container
OH yes! Perfect for lollies! I didn't even think of that!
I'm a bit late to this video, but as a Cancer, I need this dish in my life!! They were all so cute!
These guys make me smile.
Yay! They made me smile too!
My favourite so far!
I have recent found your page! Must admit I love watching the transformation from watery clay to incredible pieces of art. The crab 🦀 dish I totally imagined the crab from moana Tamatoa and thought that would look cool 😁 keep up the amazing work and hopefully you'll be able to ship your amazing pieces of art to the UK 🇬🇧 soon as I noticed on your website that international shipping excludes the UK.
These are amazing! I love your work! Great Job!
Thank you so dang much! I am so grateful for your love and support!
Very pretty crabs!!!
Just found you on youtube, your work is so much FUN!! 💕
Yessss crabs!!! I love them!
They are so fun!
@@ShelbySherritt awesome series! So so much fun!
I really like your channel Shelby I really enjoy your techniques that you do especially the bubble technique I had never seen that before. As far as the crabs yes I have seen those used as trinket dishes it has he been with a pearlescent or mother of pearl glaze.😊
These crabbies are so precious!
I only see a really cute baby Yoda in the green flowery one 😂
Loving the series! 🥰
I have a Beach Themed bathroom. I think 1 would be great to put cotton balls on or hair ties or chapsticks. Just about any little objects.
I believe they're originally for crab dip at parties or seafood dip.
These are fantastic!! Love how absolutely unique each one is!!
Hehe, I couldn't stick to one aesthetic! I think that comes from being indecisive!
@@ShelbySherritt and that's one of the things I love. I absolutely adore seeing all the unique pieces and I enjoy your experimentation!!
I immediately thought it was a soup tureen for a seafood bisque. That seems to fit with the era of many of your molds.
So cute!
The abalone one is gorgeous!
