Theo and Bee gave up their busy city lifestyles in 2014 to explore alternative living, and have lived in vans and boats since then without looking back! Along with their cat Ginjey Bear they have been driving around the world in their self converted Sprinter van. However, when the global pandemic hit they began converting their abandoned stone barn in Central Portugal to turn into a wonderful tiny stone cottage. Along the way, they have rescued a playful cat called Furrnando and have a wonderful flock of Chickens!

Avon makes a product called Skin So Soft that has some effect on mosquitoes, ants & other biting things. It is not designed for that purpose but it works and is safe. I live in a very hot humid climate, and moving to dry mountains and it works both places. I work in my yard all the time and no mosquito or ant bites, also bees & wasp are all around but never bother me. I really like it because it has no harmful chemicals. It is a tad oily and has a sweetish fragrance that I guess bugs don’t like but no chemicals. Maybe you can find it and give it a try.
You guys are so awesome and watching Miracle Mountain come back to life and fill you guys with joy and enthusiasm is wonderful. Many Blessings always

    Fascinating stuff.
It's like the bowl was made using the existing contours of the land and the banks were simply rendered over by hand, with no reinforcing. So the heat of the fire, and then the weight of the silt, have easily broken this thin render lining.
I guess the simpler restoration solution after digging out is to re-render the whole lot. To make it stronger, you'd have to add a mesh, within two layers. You're gonna need some help here.

We had springs on my grandfather’s property in the Ozarks. As a child I would stop at one of the springs on a walk and dig with my hands to make a small pool, then when it cleared up, bend over and drink clear cold water. We had other springs on the property. One poured into a big concrete square tub, that is where as kids we would play during the hot summer months. Such wonderful memories! Springs on a property are a luxury and are so important if you can have them! Your property is so beautiful!!! 😍💖

I'm so happy that you see the engineering marvel that property you bought was/is. As you walked up the ditch showing us where the water pipe was buried last year, I was envisioning the design work, labor and money put into that property.
With little cover on parts of the watershed now those silt ponds are likely to fill in more than normal until cover on the higher ground is re-established. You might want to build ramps for easy access so you can clean the ponds out every few yrs while your highly erodable land recovers. The silt ponds were designed to preserve the lake depth.
I've been wondering if you've had any professional advice on how to get cover plants established to slow continual erosion. I'd be interested in an episode on that issue.
    Best Wishes! 🩵
