  • This recone kit is made to "blueprinted" JBL factory specs, complete with the identical material known as "Aquaplas.
There is some confusion/misunderstanding going around on the internet on what "Aquaplas" is and does.
"Aquaplas" as used by JBL is a water based antivibration/damping compound that also adds rigidity and mass to the cone for more piston-like operation. In a music reproduction system...playback studio monitors and home hi-fi systems...each driver would behave as a perfect piston in order to reproduce the Alternating Current waveform fed from an amplifier to make sound as recorded music, or whatever content is being played back. IDEALLY...The cone should not add any of it's harmonic content via resonant frequencies. Aquaplas DOES NOT ADD FLEXIBILITY to the cone as some speaker repair websites will have you believe. There is nothing elastomeric in the material known as Aquaplas. The mica and silica content in Aquaplas converts the vibrational energy to heat while adding mass and rigidity, while the polymeric carrier adds to the rigidity upon full cure. GRAPHENE IS NOT PRESENT as one eBay vendor will have you believe. The material is carefully weighed, applied by spray gun for best even coverage, let dry for at least 24 hours, dry weighed again to check for correct added mass against the Engineering Design standard...and more material is added...or subtracted... until the mass is within 5% of design specification. It's a tedious process to "Blueprint" these Aquaplas coated cones even more accurate than factory production models...Hence the cost of my recone kits. MSRP of C8R2213 from JBL 15 years ago was $360.00 each.

Hi ken,,,do you have any of those rot free surround designs for the L-36 woofers. I have had the surrounds replaced 3 times for all the years I have had the L-36. I was just wondering what you do with these speakers should they be sent in for surround replacements ......Thank you for your time - Dave Fuchs

Hi ken can a Jbl 2212 kit be used in place of the 2213

Hi JP. No, they're not interchangeable. 2212 has a smaller diameter spider.
