After 20 years I am selling my old car with manual transmission and buying new one with automatic transmission and I had no idea that even in traffic jam you must leave it in D. With my skills with manual transmission, I would put it to P or N. Good that I learned not to do that from you :)

      Also it’s safe for your automatic gearbox to put in P after full Parking Brake is active. Same when releasing from P to R/N/D, it should be released before releasing Parking Brake/Full Brake.

    Good Video! But some of the things are not quite right. I have been driving automatic transmission vehicles since 4 years now.
    1. You must be specific when you say it's not recommended.
    2. There is no harm if you put your engine to park mode in traffic signals instead of keeping it on drive where your breaks are constantly applied while your engine is connected unless it has a motion isolator.
    3. You also need to let people know that not all automatic transmission are the same, eg. in a CVT and one you show is a VW Tiguan which is basically a DSG gearbox.
    4. Absolutely NO HARM in changing mode to sport mode while you are driving.
    Rest looks neat.

    • @motoroids
      @motoroids  Před 6 lety +6

      Thanks for your comments.
      1. Which 'nkt recommended part are you referring to?
      2. Keeping engine in park often causes delay when you have yo move off. Additional engagement and disengagement when you out it in park and then back in D causes additional wear, not just to the transmission, but also to the selector mechanism.
      3. We will talk about various types of automatic transmission in another video, this one was only about using them right. Good suggestion though.
      4. We neve said it was not recommended to to put the shifter in sport mode.
      Thanks a lot for your comments :-)

      See if your car shuts off automatically when stationary, then I beleive it is advisable to leave the car in D mode and left foot on brake. However this is all applicable when signal is not very long.
      But when a singnal is long(like for 7-10mins) switch to neutral and pull up the hand brake and rest your foot. There is a reason why neutral is fitted next to D so that you can quickly switch to D mode and start driving.
      Always Use P when your destination is arrived.

    @RishabhSingh-oi6yf Před 3 lety

    I partially disagree with one of the point you made which is about not putting the car in P mode when you waiting at a traffic signal because there are two reason - sometimes during night when I am at a traffic signal and don't put my car in P mode thereby keeping my foot on brake , I realised the brake lights are not comfortable for the person behind me. This is the reason I keep in P mode with hand brake. Second reason : Just a question - isn't it harmful for brake pads when you constantly keep your foot on brake while waiting at traffic signal ?

    • @motoroids
      @motoroids  Před 3 lety +1

      We'll, if the signal is going to last for too long then you can shut it off. But as you would have seen, even modern cars turn the engine off when you are in D. This reaffirms the theory that it is OK to keep the car in D while halting for small intervals

    • @RishabhSingh-oi6yf
      @RishabhSingh-oi6yf Před 3 lety

      @@motoroids Yes, if they are building the mechanism such that car engine shut off automatically when stationary so I believe it is perfectly alright to keep the foot on brake.(This is applicable when a signal is not very long).
      However is the signal is too long, I beleive we can shift to neutral (next to Drive mode) and pull the Handbrake and rest out left foot.(I wish car makers give a engine shut off in N mode too) This is the reason they have put neutral next to D mode so that as signal turns green we can quickly switch to D and start driving.
      Parking mode is only advisable when we are stopping somewhere correct ?
