Most of the time, I just go slow and pray I don't hear a thud, a scratch or a crunch.
DrGrukar McNinjaSixthGun haha me too
😂😂😂
Hahahah
pro tip: use the mirror closest to the curb, check the distance, where is the curb compared to your car, how many inches? or feet even?
now you can place the car close safely, get used to that while checking often where your driver's seat is at in the lane so you can learn where that wheel is without even having to check the mirror. It takes some time before you'll automatically know. For me, driving various cars every week, it took probably a bit longer than people driving just their own car.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wish my instructor had the patience to explain this to me instead of shouting at me for being scared to proceed between a parked car and an oncoming car!!!! Trying this tomorrow 🙏🏾
Hi
Yeah, normal in Ghana
Forgetting you may not get it under pressure
You are many of them are like that
Omg !
I thought it happens only in India. The instructors getting annoyed for us not being born drivers... !
Omg yes !! My instructor used to scare me when I was driving..'what you doing!' 'You cant fit in there' 'go' 'why you stopping' stop, go, you don't know what you're doing!! Left me traumatised that I didn't drive since I passed
1st rule of driving: slow down if you're unsure. Narrow spaces/lanes, bad weather, light changing to amber, unexpected situations, etc. No test administrator will fail you because you slowed down in a difficult situation, that's what you're supposed to do. It gives you time to think and react appropriately, exactly what they want to see you doing.
Definitely among most important aspects and does deserves to be examined, especially for how one treats fellow drivers who go by this rule. Where I live, the main obstacle to this rule is the non cooperative nature of fellow road users who are very likely to cause road rage over petty issues.
Not my instructor. They say it's obstructing traffic by being too slow. It's so stupid.
@@SimonWoodburyForget negative they can’t fail you unless you are actively hindering the flow of traffic
1st Rule of driving - DON'T. Don't even try driving. It looks like the most horrifying activity ever. Just walk/take a bus/bike.
When you slow down here in norway on turn and u made line cars on your back..even if its a difficult way,u mist keep your speed to avoid people overtaking..but it sounds not right..how about new drivers..they need proffesional drivers here before u get license lol..or maybe not thesame every sensor
I’ve been driving for 60 years ( without a moving accident) but still found this guy a great help. Well done.
I wish you be like this...

If only all driving instructors were this good👏🏽😭😭

Thank you!

Yeah, that left leg in the lane method is genius!

Great instruction. Please demonstrate how to visually communicate with other drivers, flashing brights or hand signals. 😊
As someone who self taught myself how to drive all i can say is no matter how much tutorials and classes you watch driving is all about feel, and everyone sooner or later develops the feel of driving and then their own way to drive.
truee my friend
True, but a LOT of people suck at driving but think they're good at it
I've taken so many hours of driving lessons and still I tend to overthink and lack the confidence to drive in difficult settings. Thank you for addressing the problems learner drivers have with empathy. Enjoyed watching your videos and seeing the UK streets.
It’s not easy that’s for sure! Have you passed?

I struggled for ages with my positioning on the road and used this today on my driving lesson and it worked a treat, even the instructor said my positioning has improved massively. Thank you.
I'm happy to hear that, you're welcome ☺
legend. I'll be driving my 15th hour tommorow and will be trying to use this while driving
So you're basically saying, the left side curb coming inside on the windshield helped you position your car better?! I need more to stay in my lane 😢
Me thinking to myself : Why the hell am I watching this, I'm already familiar with my car and I did well on the driving exam.
Video : "-because I remember sitting there thinkin-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Me : Subbed
Lmao he is cool mane 😂
- "There is a solution!"
- Straps a GoPro on his forehead. 😅
But in all seriousness, thanks for all your videos. Great, great help!
Im not even from the UK, we don't even drive on the same side of the road, but your videos actually help me
This is so strange, just got back from a driving lesson yesterday and the main thing I was unsure of was narrow lanes and parked cars and how to know I’m not going to clip anything, and then this video gets uploaded haha. Thanks a lot, this was really helpful
That's a good coincidence 😊
Aye one of my fears is taking off someone's side mirror I'd imagine that's quite costly to repair 🤔😂
me too! I was worried I was gonna do the same.
@@laurawatson6001 I did scratch someone's rearview mirror while learning to drive. Luckily the owner of the car did not bother much. That was 10 years ago. I am way past that now. Just learn from your mistakes and move on. If the owner of the car catches you. Pay for the damages and then move on. 😋
How are you doing now?
Yeah, I remembered seating in the passenger seat for the first time, and having this perspective shock, wondering why we haven’t hit anybody
Watching when you're young helps you when you are older.
That GoPro on your head is so incredibly helpful!! When I first started practice driving, my mother would sit in the passenger seat and yell about how I was too close to the curb. Last week, she yelled about how I was too close to the midline. It left me feeling very confused about my placement, second-guessing myself, and that resulted in a lot of mini-zig-zags. No good. Getting to look at proper placement through your eyes is like a breath of fresh air! Thank you
I relate so hard to the mini zigzags.
This man goes above and beyond. Really puts his soul into this, it’s safe to say I’ve never come across something like this in my entire life, from instructors to family cousins with cars who always give excuses when I wanna learn driving using their cars and talk about how their always late to go somewhere or how the car needs a fixing hence I wouldn’t get it!
This video is EXACTLY what I needed. I'm very confident in most of my driving but once I'm on an undivided two-way road with cars parked on the side it gets scary. Thanks for the amazing tips!
It gets easier with practise.

"What I do is that I use myself to judge where to place the car.
I am not actually using myself to judge how wide the space is." 👏👏
This is actually a very good advice in relationships and self improvement as well!
Excellent video. I have 40 years' driving experience and I found it very helpful. Every day is a school day!
Very carefully and patiently explained, and the driver's eye view is superb. Thank you for a great job!
Very well said. "Every day is a school day". Fantastic quote. 👌 I will be using it i days to come 😃.
I passed my driving exam your videos helped me more than my instructor God bless you live long
Brother, I am from India. To me this video is like a boon from the paradise. The only fear all I had about driving is judging the width. You've blown me with a simple technique. Well my driving coach did told me about this tip but to me it looked weird and logically didn't fit anywhere. But after seeing your video I am grateful to him and to you. Thank you so much. Keep rocking!
Super thalai.
Judge the width of the gap not the width of the car. You are a very good teacher 👍🏻
Please continue making more videos for learners/beginners🙏🏻
If you're watching this and you're in a country that drives on on the other side. Watching this off a mirror might help
if only I had known this in my lessons earlier on, it would have saved me months of extra anxiety on the road. In 50 lessons with 2 different instructors not once was I offered this excellent advice. Thank you so much. My first instructor did not explain that the chosen reference markers were only for certain circumstances and I was using them all the time which made driving feel dangerous because its hard to look at that, look ahead and look further down the road simultaneously. Your head cam footage really helps.
Nah bro 50 lessons 💀💀💀
@@MarkCullinane-gl6kz So what? Everyone has their own pace. Stop judging, that’s not a good look
I have been driving for about 6 years (had my full licence for about a year or so), and no one has been able to give me any useful advice for judging the car width in all that time. Your tips really made things click into place for me. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you and you're welcome.
Finally someone who explain well how to judge if our car fit or not, most of instructor only said you got a lot of space and im like how.. its look tiny tiny from my perspective🤔 thank youuu
You're welcome.
I jumped here, because I was looking for some guide with engine braking and downshifting and stayed for every lesson. I have license for 10 years, but bought finally a car and your channel helped a lot. Not only to do revision, but no one even ever told me those technical cases on my driving course. What I would add here - everything takes time. I passed test long time ago, took rides as passenger a lot, learned on other people mistakes and I am old enough to think more about risky situations than when I took driving lessons. However when I started to drive my own car it took, and it still takes! a lot of time to guess if I fit in or not. From my experience at the beginning I expected to take much more space than car really needs. It really takes practise and you have to allow yourself to that. Don't be too hard on yourself. Check side mirrors, lean over the window, open the door to see where the curb is, get out of the car and see how far you are from another. And if the bus or garbage truck can fit in - you will too with ease. Once I miscalculated and scratched, luckily only, my bumper against column in underground parking which leads me to another conclusion - if have doubt's - don't do it :D It's better to slow down or stop and get people yell at you, but that still better option than crash or scratch.
I'm very happy to hear that. You're absolutely right, if you don't know, don't go. Get out and check if needed.
Something a lot of people struggle especially newer learners, thank you for making this video, helps out a ton!
I will always slow down on non highway roads and always let the other car do what it whats to do. I do not tailgate. If it takes me 2 hours to get home when I am only 10 mins from my house
so be it. I am going to get home SAFE AND SOUND
Sensible. However I can't see a 10 min journey turning into a 2 hour journey because you're ensuring safety. Maybe it would be 30 seconds to a minute longer.
@@ConquerDriving Yeah, exactly

Super helpful, I find as a new learner that confidence behind the wheel is my biggest hurdle so having these types of videos that go over basic scenarios that I'm likely to find myself in help a lot in instilling that confidence

This is EXACTLY what has been my number 1 concern as new learner. God bless you for this video!
Really helpful thank you. Love how you advocate safety, patience and just plain good common sense during tempting circumstances
Man I'd love to have this guy as a instructor!
Just wanted to say a massive thank you. I passed my test a couple years ago, but have only driven a couple times since so I have a bit of anxiety after getting my first car. Watching these videos have absolutely helped me remind myself what is needed and I feel so much more confident!
This gentleman is so clear and straightforward in his explanations very easy to follow .
You are a good instructor indeed. You help to build confidence in learners.
Best driving instructor on CZcams so far for me. Thank you, sir, Your content helps me a lot in learning how to be a good driver 🙏
What a genius idea to judge the gap using the surrounding cars.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for the patient, understanding videos. I’m an experienced driver who is having a lot of anxiety adjusting to a new car and these tips are so helpful towards getting my confidence back.
Excellent video. I've been driving for more than 50 years but still learned something from your reference marks.
Thanks for your video. Normally almost nobody teaches this theme of driving rather than clutch control and signs
I wish more driving instructors had as much patience and knew to explain all these aspects. Good job man!
This is exactly what I needed. I always worry about the size of a car and thinking I can't fit through spaces. Thank you for this🙏
You've cleared all my major doubts about driving in just 17 minutes! Thank you !
I got my licence a few years back, and still this video was interesting.
Sometimes you just have to go over the basics again. You may know and apply them without thinking, but watching this, I got in a state of relearning. So I guess that's a plus :D
Even though I have been driving for years, these videos help me with my daily driving skills . 🌈💕
imagine yourself walking down the path on the right hand side is the best tip I have heard about how not to drive too much to the left. Thank you!
These videos make me feel so much better- I always felt like I'm the only one who worries about things like this!
Brilliant advice and teaching for all drivers, newbies and oldies alike. Sometimes, if we have been driving for years, we get complacent, it is good to be reminded about road safety and using our judgment. Thanks again!
Really appreciated your referencing using the clutch. These are what I’m referencing for my son who is learning to drive. Never under estimate the power of reviewing skills for the road.✅💯🍀🦋
You are a great teacher, who is passionate to teach and really knows what he is talking about. This video is much appreciated. Many thank you. This is indeed a very helpful and educational video
That's gold! Really helpful thank you. I'd also like to add that since I am (as learners, we are) more accustomed to being a passenger, so when I am in the driver's seat my brain screams that I am much too far over to the right of the road all the time and therefore oncoming traffic is going to hit me, I must get out of the way. It's instinctive and the way our perceptions have been trained - it takes time to unlearn that (as a learner at the age of 60, that's quite a long time).
Your videos are proving useful, well explained and very clear.
Passed my test a month and a half ago and forgot everything I learned. Just go my first car and you're helping me not to crash. Cheers lad
Yet again, another amazing tutorial for judging the narrow gaps in meeting situations and especially passing through width restrictions.
Thank you for sharing your useful tip on how to imagine yourself for your car's central road positioning. This really helps the new learners with their road positioning.
Thank you.
There are no bad students only bad teachers. This guy is a GOOD teacher.
Passed my driving exam a month ago, and the things you point out in this video are definitely still on my top list of scary things when driving, great video!!! 👍🏻 (And to make it a tad more difficult I bought myself an old van... haha!)
I can’t help watching this guy’s videos. I passed my test two years ago but still find tips from him! And just love the way he explains things
Thank you so much, very nice to hear that.
I've had my license since 15 1/2 and I'm well into my 50s lol Still watch the videos though . I have friends and co-workers who are atrocious at certain driving conditions. The worst is my friend who can't properly judge the gap so she will actually speed up , clench her eye shut and blow through hoping she fits . Needless to say, she only has one sideview mirror attached and it's shattered and dinged beyond use. She's hopeless 😭
I’ve passed my test but I redo practice mock tests and love learning new things like this to improve my driving, it can be really hard to judge this sort of thing
Caught these videos when I was getting a refresher before driving on the motorway again. I've been driving for years and I think putting my left leg in the middle of the lane has improved my road positioning. Thanks
I've had my license for 20 years now and never had any accidents, just found this channel and find it super interesting, lots of things still to learn!
This is all I needed😭😭... I have to drive through a narrow road in a village, daily for my work, and judging whether to slow down or squeeze through has been very difficult.
Thank you so much for uploading this video.🙏. I hope with practice I'll become better.

This is the video about judging your distance to the cars on your both sides that I've been looking for! Thanks
Just started my lessons and this is my main problem! My perspective is all off, sooo glad it’s a common problem 😂 I felt like I was stupid. This video has helped. Will try in my next lesson ❤
You are an Excellent driving instructor. This video is accurate because it literally helped me to master staying in my lane. You also helped me to learn how to drive through spaces. Thank you and continue the good work.
Hi , I am an amateur Driver and your video is like a boon to me ..You explained the things in very effective way which most driving instructor does not do . I always felt that car is too big from inside to fit in the gap but you covered this thing also in the video because no one has given me such a good tip regarding ..Thank you and you are awesome !!!
I just love your enthusiasm in explaining things. And especially motor noises were helpful! Thanks once again for doing this videos :)
This is actually the BEST video on safe positioning! I'm definitely using this on lessons. Thank you!

Thank you. You’re the best teacher ever. Everything you say makes sense. Soon as I mastered driving I thought that’s it Job done 😂😂😂 I was so wrong…
The way you explained it makes so much sense, I wish my instructor told me that.
You are really helpful. Watching you from Germany. Im becoming better in driving every day. Thanks alot
Personally as a new driver i found that this came easier with time, if you can try and get your instructor to get a cone or something to help you practice the distance near an object, the knowledge you gain from that is amazing and in fact helped me stop scraping the wheels on the curb when parking as well as getting through tight gaps when on busy roads
I’ve recently changed from a citroen DS4 to a C class Mercedes and I’m finding judging the width and length a real issue especially without rear sensors. Thank you for your videos they help even experienced drivers 😄
You are an excellent instructor. It is so true, right now I am concerned about judging width and length of car to avoid hitting something or someone. You are really doing a great job addressing the concerns and fears of new drivers.

To be honest, I'm learning from you more than my instructor thank you so much ...

Great explanations. Lucky learners that get you as an instructor. I've been driving for decades and it took me years to feel confident about judging the gap. Discovered relatively recently that l'm claustrophobic. Dr asked me how l felt about crossing bridges and going through tunnels. Talk about a light bulb moment as l had never connected the two. Knowing the cause has unexpectedly made both of them easier, although l still have to sing myself through tunnels.
Loved this video! Thank you so much for your help! Will apply this rule to maintain my positioning in today’s lesson as I’m always too close or too wide from the left curb or cars in the left. Excited to try it. You’re a star!
Thank you. Good luck 🤞
You’ve helped me develop understanding of driving cars. I’ve taken my theory test today after plenty of times of watching these types of videos of you. I passed today 48/50 on multiple choice thank you
Congratulations! You're welcome.
Can we give this man an award🙌🏾💯✨ 🏆 thanks man really helped me understand the important tips of understanding the width and taking your time
Thank you for the tips! this really helps full license holders like myself as well as learners. I struggled recently with turning quite a tight corner, there were a line of cars also waiting to turn out of the narrow side road I was trying to turn into. I thought maybe I could let a car out and open up space - but nobody moved. I had to take my courage in my hands and slowly turned into the road, praying I wasn't going to hit the kerb or the other car as i turned. It was actually ok and the car did manage relatively easily - it was a learning point for me that the car feels and looks bigger than it actually is.
Dude, this is so, so helpful. This is my number one fear ahead of starting driving lessons in the summer. Thank you so much!
good luck!
This is exactly what I was looking for. If you can show the movement of your steering that would be helpful. You did show it in one of your videos for right hand carb judgements and parking. That videos was super duper brilliant. Thank you
I'm glad you found the video helpful. When driving it's best not to think about how much you turn the wheel. Just turn it as much as you need to achieve your position.
I needed this video! I live in Shetland where we have a huge number of single track roads and small towns and villages with narrow streets which people park on in both directions making for pretty scary learning. My first instructor here gave me a hard time for being freaked out when faced with other vehicles on narrow streets. Thankfully my new instructor is a better communicator with more empathy! This has been helpful 👍
CZcams algorithm is on another level. I recently started learning how to drive and it recommended me this video. Now I am a subscriber.
I have searched for hours an explanation of how to know i'm in the middle of the lane (google, youtube, instagram, etc) and found no useful tip. However you have solved my problem completely. It is amazing your way of thinking and explaining. This has really helped me!!! Now I can focus my attention on other things than fitting my car in the middle of the lane 🤣🤣🤣 Your videos are pure gold. I am eternally grateful 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Commercial driver for 18+ yrs here. Interesting take. i like the leg trick to stay centered. How I learned lane control, and this will date me, was back in the day PacMan was a thing and while driving I would put the zipper (center line dividing the lanes) right in the crook of the wind shield where dash and side of the wind shield meet. To this 14 year old I imagined PacMan (wind shield corner) was eating his dots (zipper). Just another trick that may help.
Thank you! That's original.
Really a quality material. Local instructors just become angry on newbies, You are just awesome !! Thanks
Oh my Goodness im so happy i saw this video. I'm so bad at judging the width of the car i always feel like im not inside the lane and so I can't really build that confidence that i wont hit anything. This so makes sense to me and cant wait to apply on my next driving lesson. Huge thanks!!!!!
I'd love this "How to Judge" series videos! Carry on this kind of videos!
Thank you. I think next week is braking judgement. But I haven't decided which one to make available yet.
Beautifully explained. One hint that you can add is people can place stickers on the inner edge where windscreen meets dashboard for both and left to make it easier for newbie drivers who are not very confident especially for gap judgement on the passenger side.
