Loved it when Dallas added the synthesizer sound in this season. Wish they would have kept it in future seasons. Bottom line, Dallas was an awesome show. I loved every season and the reboot as well!!!
But it's still 1982, so it's still syncopated acoustic drums and fender bass behind it. LOVE! Although my favourite was when he goes FULL SLICK 80s a few years a later with the huge power drums , the slicker film stock and Dallas was at the top of its game globally.
I love listening to each season's opening to hear what Jerold Immel had changed each year! In this one, I love that he removed the normal riffs and throws in the electric bass sound at about 0.10. Also LOVE the egg shaker throughout as well as the seemingly random short piano chords!
Welcome to the 80's version of Dallas:) Every Seson they would have a new tune, I loved it. Now the theme in todays shows NEVER CHANGES. Talk about lazy uncreative producers, who sit on thier ass and get a paycheck. This Era is so dull, when it comes to night time soaps.
This is only the second season where the rolling images before the cast were changed, the first being the change of Southfork. Check the drilling rigs on the right.. . The following year the entire sequence was changed.
It certainly was, although it would be two seasons later (1985-86, the infamous Dream Season) before the flyover shot of Texas Stadium was changed from a diagonal flyover to a straight-down zoom-in; the skyline shot, however, did change for 1984-85 and going forward.
They also adjusted the flyover of Texas stadium, this season, where you could see “Cowboys” the whole time. 4 seasons prior to this one, we mainly just saw “owboys”
Kind of a low quality recording, this was season 6 on CBS and up until they released the DVD's and called the spring of 1978 mini series, season 1, which bumped all the original seasons back 1.
Should have ended around season 7 or 8 they tarnished the legacy a little by sticking around waaaaaay to long but hey with that kind of money if milk it to!!!!!

probably THE greatest prime-time soap ever!
That synth at 0:11 brought Dallas from the 70s into the 80s! It was awesome!
that’s my favorite little trinket from this theme

0:49. I'm 21 years old and I've seen this show. Season 7 did it the best

I think Jerold Immel won an Emmy for this version of the theme, it also happens to be my favorite version, with the pilot version being second.
Jerrold Immel won the BMI TV Music Award for Dallas in 1987. He was nominated for an Emmy for the Paradise theme in 1989.
RIP Ken Kercheval, Larry Hagman, and Barbara Bel Geddes. I loved watching Dallas with my mom! Fun times back in the 80's.
This was the first theme I heard back in the 80s, so it's my favourite. Born in '75, I didn't catch on to Dallas before much later.
Always between 0:10 to 0:12 that distinctive beat you could tell which series is which
The horns sound like synths also. Not complaining.
My favorite variant! Does anyone else think the synth riff reminds them of the theme from Miami Vice?
This version is just so random. Very Knightrider with that electronic baseline.
1983-84!
Happy 40th anniversary DALLAS
Love that sick synthesized bassline. Very 1980s!
tvpirate05 yeah probably a minimoog or Roland Jupiter. Probably a drum machine also.
You could always tell which series was which as each had a different bit at that point
It is wild to see the evolution of the theme from the discotheque of the late 70s to the early to mid 80s.
0:11 SCREAMS 1983!
Indeed. Knight Rider right along with it.
Yeah 1983-1984 was the beginning of the shift from the late 70s into the 80s full on
This season had the best version of the theme. It was tight.
Nah! Season 4 is 🔥🔥🔥💃🏾😀
This season was it favourite as that synth finally moved Dallas from the 1970s into the the 1980s, that synth sound screams 1983-1984!
Always from 0:11 - 0:13 you instantly knew which series was which coz different beat of music
@north5880
Actually the early seasons had disco.
@JepMasta
Nope, but the season 8 theme really had that miami vice look to it.

Yeah the 1983-84 season was the beginning of 80s!Dallas
nice opening.

TheEwing69 The last good season!
Forward one.
A melhor temporada de todassss
Larry Hagman died of alcoholism, he had liver transplant but got throat cancer
Most heavy drinkers die from cancer, even if they quit drinking. The damage is irreversible.
Ken Kercheval looks like Joe Pesci.
That bass is not as good as in previous versions.
There is NO bass in the 1986-87 theme. Odd
Should have ended around season 7 or 8 they tarnished the legacy a little by sticking around waaaaaay to long but hey with that kind of money if milk it to!!!!!
The show was in the top 10 in the ratings thru the dream season, 1985-86, it was too popular to end it then.
