One of the greatest gradual builds in a song ever. Leave it to Otis… GOAT.
One thing I noticed was the gentle tapping all the way through - drumstick on rim of drum? It adds to the anticipation of the build you mentioned
Yaaasss! That build up is everything! One of the sickest songs of all time!!
Well said! ♥️🔥
#Facts
That build up is epic!!! Definitely a classic.
Imagine how massive a star he would have become had he not died in the plane crash at age 25. He always seemed older than that somehow, the way he sang. GOAT 💛
He was only 25? He sounds so much older.
He was 26 (although your larger point is absolutely correct).
Fun fact: Otis Redding wrote one of Aretha Franklin's biggest hits - Respect, although she and her backup singers changed some of the lyrics. It was also a big hit for Otis prior to Aretha singing it.
😁
a happy sad song...
after aretha got a hold of it? when did that happen? 😘😎
Shame there wasn't a duet with both.
@@Reilly5 Whoa! can you even begin to imagine what magic that would have been?
SECOND! Recommending "Try A Little Tenderness" for so long. If you guys like it, try Otis' "I've Been Loving You Too Long." The ladies will swoon. Really. This song is HOT.
Also, These Arms Of Mine
And also Cigarettes and Coffee
The Dock of The Bay
Pain In My Heart
And my teenage favourite, My Girl
He was my idol, along with Marvin Gaye. Loved them💖💖💖💖
One of my all time favorite songs and one of the greatest movie scenes ever in Pretty in Pink when Duckie slides into the music store and dances to this song…LOVE IT!!
Luv that flick!
Tim even makes one of the same faces in this reaction!😂
Jon Cryer!!! I love this scene!
One of my favorite scenes too, I loved Pentatonix version of it on Sing Off too.
I forgot about that! Classic scene.👌
One of the baddest songs ever made!! Otis Redding is the GOAT!! He was one of my father’s favorite singers. Tragic loss of one of the greatest male voices to grace the world. ❤️
Pretty in Pink anyone?
Ducky
Always with this song….every single time 😂
You know when they really like a song when Fred pulls out his phone and adds it to his playlist lol
I love Otis. He died so young. In his late 20s. I can only imagine what he would have become if he would have live to be 40 or more years.
We’d have at least 15 more years worth of classics that’s what would have happened.
Otis Redding really sings from the heart. Every sound is full of feelings and I love the way this builds! One of the GOAT soul singers! ❤
Otis Redding was, is and always will be THE KING OF SOUL!!!!!!!
Chris Brown sang this in the movie "This Christmas". Fun fact: I graduated from high school with one of Mr. Redding's sons. 💖
Otis was the truth. He left this earth way too soon!
Otis is the GOAT
I love Otis Redding. A GOAT for sure.
Otis was one of the best R and B singers he died in a plane crash. Jay Z and Kayne West remade this song in their album Watch the throne
my bad i commented before i read yours.
Love Otis Redding. He sitting in the dock of Heaven. Continue sleep in paradise.🙏🙏
👠👸🏾Otis is and will always be the G.O.A.T. may he forever R.I.P.❤️🙏🏾
SUGGESTION: “TRAMP” sung by Otis Redding🤴🏾🎤 & Carla Thomas 👸🏾🎤💯💯💯
One of the best songs by one of the best artists.
Otis was simply amazing. I often wonder what kind of heat he would've put out if it wasn't for that plane crash.
Anyway, y'all need more Otis Redding (rhymes with 'bedding' and 'sledding') in your lives: "I've Been Loving You Too Long," "I've Got Dreams to Remember," "That's How Strong My Love Is," and "These Arms of Mine" are some of my favorites.
Yes to all of the above!!!
I try not to think about what we lost when Otis died.
I’ve got dreams to remember literally brings tears to my eyes every time. I first heard it in the movie dream a little dream with the Corey’s and since then it’s just that song
Fred, you might as well go ahead and download that whole thing to your playlist. Otis is a staple in any music collection 😉
I love this song, Otis is amazing!! But every time I hear THIS song I flash back to the 80s to a little teen movie called PRETTY IN PINK! There is one scene where the two main girls are in the record store were they work. One of them puts on this song and a character with Nick name Ducky comes sliding in the store & starts lip syncing and performing to the song. I'm fixing to look the scene up just to watch it right now. Check it out. Love to hear what you think. I think you might recognize Ducky. His name is John Cryer from TWO AND A HALF MEN.
Same here! I cannot hear this song without picturing Duckie 😂
@@shannon2506 lol me, too. Every time I hear this song I see Duckie dancing in the record shop.
Otis’ plane went down in my current hometown, Madison, WI along with The Barkays ( in Lake Monona). RIP King!
One member of the Barkays wasn't on the plane.
GOAT!! So much amazing verbrado and soul extrordinaire! Will never be duplicated. Miss you and your artistry so very much. Forever rest in peace Mr. Otis Redding.
Otis was a gentleman, his lyrics were nuanced and we definitely need to pay attention to them. That rhythm and music distracts but pay attention to those lyrics ❤️
I love it when y’all react to the oldies. What a classic this song is!
I think this is the favorite Otis Redding song of many people. But you really need to see the performance where he breaks it down. This one's been on my playlist for years👍
Tim’s stank face gives me LIFE!
Otis Redding is a LEGEND! No one like Otis! Listen if you can or may to A Lover’s Prayer!❤️🤍💙
Otis Redding singing These Arms of Mine...there’s nothing better. One of Georgia’s favorite sons.
LEGEND... Otis gone but never forgotten, the Hammond B3 organ, Steve Cropper and the boys... how can anyone not LOVE this?
One of my favorite Otis Redding songs, always love the "I gotta gottas!" at the buildup!
Gone at 26. R.i.P to the true king of soul.
You two are on a roll!!! Another banger. Love this song. I was waiting for the beat to drop for yaw reaction. 🔥🔥🔥
OMG...BANGER AFTER BANGER....THIS SONG JUST MAKES ME ...MELT....🔥🔥🔥
Gone way too soon. Only 26 years old.
" I've Been Loving You Too Long " my all time favorite.
One of the greatest to ever do it! It wasn't until I heard this song in the movie Pretty In Pink that I rediscovered Otis. That drive at the end of the song 🔥 Otis and his band The Upsetters...Rest In Power
I was lucky enough to see him perform. He gave it his all and one felt it. 🌹🌹🌹
Oh how I wish I could have seen him. I'm just glad I discovered his music very early in life. His music has formed my tastes, and been a huge part of my life growing up.
So jealous! He was gone a few years before I was born, so I never had that chance, but I did grow up with his music.
The turn up at the end is epic!
Fun fact, This song was sampled by Jay-Z and Kanye for the song Otis.
Otis is one the all time greats! RIP
Otis was amazing. He voice was one in a million. His songs are often used in movie soundtracks. They are just ageless. Good music never ages. This particular song was used in a funny, memorable science from the 80’s film Pretty in Pink. The character “Duckie” adds life to his comedic performance lip synching and adds mad praise and respect saying Otis was great and was the man.
FYI...this song was first recorded during The Great Depresssion in 1932...90 YEARS OLD!!!!!
Otis was one of greatest musicians ever. I love this song.
When I saw you were doing this one, I was reminded of Phil Collins, I could not wait to see how you reacted when Otis with that slow start, put that song into overdrive at the end! Made my night guys!! 💥🎯🙏
Otis went off on this one! G.O.A.T!!!!
I think you guys would love so much more of his music too! I've Been Loving You Too Long, Respect (which he actually wrote), These Arms of Mine, Fa-Fa-Fa, Cigarettes and Coffee, Dreams To Remember, the list goes on and on.
You just sit on the dock of the bay listening to try a little tenderness... That's it that's all
Yes
Otis baby!!! Y'all NEED to listen to "These Arms if Mine" absolutely beautiful! ✨🙏🏽💕✨
There is a live version that goes all the way in. Straight church!!
Most of us know how this iconic song builds...so, I was more than ready to watch T & F's faces when the rubber met the road. Well worth the wait! ☺✌❤🎶
A huge major tribute to Otis Redding was the Three Dog Night version of this song. Imitation is the best form of flattery and they flattered Otis greatly with their reprise.
Ah! I love Otis Redding. He's my absolute favorite singer. So glad I grew up with his music. He was a genius, and his music never fails to reach me. So glad you reacted to him more!!! ❤❤❤
I strongly recommend watching him perform it live. In a completely different league from the recording! 🙂
Watch the scene in “ Pretty in Pink” where this song is played and Jon Cryer( Duckies) lip sinks this song in this this 1980’s movie classic ♥️👍🏽
"Takin' some notes...."
~ Good boys. Really good, bless them. 💕💜💕💜💕
I will always associate this song with Duckie in Pretty in Pink
It gives me such joy watching you hear these classics for the first time! 😂🙏❤️
I giggled at the reaction, because that's what this song does to people!!!!
Otis was amazing!!!
G O A T "Poor Otis dead and gone, let me hear you sing this song, pretty little girl with the red dress on, poor Otis dead and gone... " "Running Blue" 'The Doors'. Otis dead at 25 and Jim Morrison dead at 27. Two huge talents taken way too soon. So glad you heard this gem♥ by the late and great Otis Redding.
Such a great payoff for the slow burn! Classic!
One of his best songs in my opinion 💜
Love Soul music. Best song ever. I was a teen aged when this song came out.So soulful!
Otis was only 27 years old when he died in a plane crash.😥so he'll be forever young. He put feelings and emotion in every song he sang! 🙂
Love you guys. You have to watch the live performance of this one!
Otis was a master. He could do anything and it would be classic.
The group Three Dog Night did a really excellent version of this song and the blues and soul came through like butter.
give it a listen sometime.
try and sing this....damn...brilliant song....The Commitments did it....and succeeded.....watch them in awe...the lead singer was 16 yrs at the time
THE GREATEST SONG EVER
Great pick for a reaction...My Daddy used to listen to Otis...one of the first artist I was introduced to. So glad you are back adopted nephews...looking healthy!!! Just one other thing Otis' s last name is pronounced "RED" ing, like the color! LOVE OTIS!
I laughed at the beginning of the video when you said he looked really young on the picture. Otis was only 26 when he died.
Being as young as he was, no one has yet been able to touch the gritty soulfulness he possessed. He sang like an ole soul.
One of my very favorites! Thanks guys.
I have always loved this song!
Nope aint heard this song before. But everyone needs love and tenderness.
Love both ❤❤
Love watching you guys discovering these tunes, can see the love just by the looks on your faces.
It's heart warming to see the youth of today celebrating music of all genres with open hearts and minds.
Samantha O, didn't know that about Otis Redding!! Fun!!! A little before my time. But have heard all these songs. Joan and Keith Bates thanks Tim and Fred
One of the greatest of all time! Excellent react to an excellent tune! I love Otis
Love this song and Otis in general! Also, it looks like one of your pieces of art is about to fall off the hallway wall. :)
I always think of Pretty in Pink when I hear this. Duckie ❤️
My fave song ever.. try the commitment version. That is so good too.
Chills chills chills all over !!!!!!!
I was waiting for your reaction when Mr. Redding released the beast with that climax toward the end of the song. CLASSIC!
The one and only Ottis Reading my favorite song of his !
THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!
BB King has Lucille or The Thrill is Gone which are great blues songs.
you gotta watch the video guys such a beautiful man lots of stage presence fabulous
Still my #1 singer ,What my heart needs. Or Keep your arms around me.
The great Otis Redding❤️
These arms of mine and I’ve been loving you a little to long. His voice is BUTTER!!!!!! Doc of the bay is not his wheel house. Ballads are his thing, no one is better than Otis when it comes to belting out a good soulful ballad.
Favorite song💯💪🏼
I have requested this many times, but you need to listen to him sing Love Man. Great music and performance. ❤️
The whole time I'm just thinking - wait until the get to the end of the song! Ah, it's so so good.
I don't even have the words to describe how much I love this song and how much I adore Otis Redding 🧡
There's a video on youtube Otis Redding Live 1967. The way he sings this song & the audience reaction will give you chills! 🔥🔥
The Monterrey Pop live version of this song is my favorite. He stretches it out and kicks up the tempo.
His greatest song is Satisfaction. Absolutely astounding.
Fantastic song, he wails like no one!!
Another great selection! You are hitting it out of the park tonight guys!
One of my favorite songs ever!!! Otis Redding is incredible. One of my favorite singers of all time. Easily
Otis is the best soul singer ever. I wish that I had got to see him live. He gave his all when he sang. He grabs you right in your soul. Watch a live video of him.
