    I am VERY HAPPY that Luster Purge and Mist Ball were buffed. Not for any competitive reason, mind, just that it absolutely infuriates me to see a Legendary's cool signature move just be weaker than the usual STAB option. Things like Land's Wrath being almost objectively worse than Earthquake if you don't mind the friendly fire (let alone it being blown out of the water by Thousand Arrows, which at least has use alongside quake for knocking flying pokes out of the air) never mind old Luster Purge and Mist Ball just being worse than Psychic. And Relic Song, oh god Relic Song is the worst signature I've seen in my life and Hyper Voice is RIGHT. THERE.

    • @thejevilhimself
      @thejevilhimself Před 4 měsíci +5

      Relic song's actually pretty good IMO due to serene grace sleep chance

    • @Mr._Sherwood
      @Mr._Sherwood Před 4 měsíci +16

      Yeah, the sleep chance is good, but unless you're going for a physical Pirouette form set then you're usually better off sticking to Hyper Voice because special sets then have to do it again to change their stats back, and physical sets need a turn to switch forms, and in both cases that's at least one turn where you aren't getting much done. Although, having said that, I suppose I must admit that it does have a niche. I just wish you could make Melo start off in pirouette form because design wise it's pretty cool.

    • @mysticpumpkin8520

      Tbh its not that Relic Song is bad as much as its gimmic of changinh Meloetta's form is bad

    It's worth mentioning that if you use Psychic Noise on something like Iron Hands, Iron Hands literally cannot press Drain Punch. It's not that it doesn't heal or anything but it straight up won't let you press the button, so that's another thing going for it.

    Notably, in a world where Scald isn't learned by most Pokemon, Primarina has some of the most effective Water type attacks in the format. Still not as good as if it had Scald probably, but Liquid Voice is way better in a world where Scald is the exception, not the rule

    You could run Eviolite Rhydon with Lightning Rod to protect Urshifu-Rapid and counter Raging Bolt, then Tera Electric Supercell Slam to be other Urshifu users. I only say Rhydon since it is bulkier with Eviolite, and since it learns Icy Wind it works pretty well as a support without much and surivives a Choice Specs Flutter Mane Shadow Ball with 0 investment in Sp. Def.
    My set is
    Rhydon @ Eviolite
    Ability: Lightning Rod
    Level: 50
    Tera Type: Electric
    EVs: 204 Atk / 54 Def / 252 SpD
    Adamant Nature
    - Supercell Slam
    - Shadow Claw
    - Icy Wind
    - Protect
    Other options like Breaking Swipe, Thunder Punch, Hammer Arm, Earthquake or Scorching Sands are also pretty good imo. Just depends on the weaknesses of the team.

    To be honest, I don't think Metagross needs sword of ruin as much as you make it sound like. It appreciates it, but so does literally every other physical attacker. I'm finding metagross works perfectly fine without sword of ruin, but it also does like chien-pao.
    I'm also a fan of meteor mash or Iron head for a more consistent BP steel stab (I don't like having to rely on bullet punch when heavy slam won't cut it since we have a few popular priority hate mons right now, namely farigiraf and indeedee). Heavy slam is great, but sometimes you just want more oomph on heavier targets.
    Also psychic fangs is great on metagross- you can deal with screens while also having a relatively consistent neutral STAB with no drawbacks. Friendship ended with zen headbutt, Psychic fangs is my new best friend.

    I've been considering the option of running Alluring Voice primarina next to an Intimidate mon as a way to punish Defiant mons. If the opponent has something like a Kingambit on the field, you could bring in the intim mon and click alluring voice onto the kingambit to confuse it
    Confusion isn't very reliable tho so idt this will pay off in the long run

    Random question
    I noticed that vgc players usualy EV train most of their pokemon stats, a little bit on everything excep special attack.
    But on smogon people usually max stats and, consequently, just 2 of them like speed and an offence, or a defence and HP
    Am i out of my mind or theres a reason for that?

    • @ryanhickson6399
      @ryanhickson6399 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Occasionally ev training a stat for 4 evs will give 2 of the stat instead of one. So players will invest in defences for that extra 1 point. And there are also cases where a specific amount of evs will let the Pokemon either live a kill shot or ko something faster

    • @harb1ng3r82
      @harb1ng3r82 Před 4 měsíci +1

      The fact that there are two pokemon mean that a fast and strong threat has a harder time just killing the thing in front of it and not having to take damage. The two pokemon on the field means that you are often at risk of taking at least one hit, so offensive pokemon forgo one-shots to hit bulk benchmarks more often

    • @NightWing1800
      @NightWing1800 Před 4 měsíci

      Two that I can think of.
      First, every difference between doubles and singles comes down to the number of pokemon on the field. When you're in a 1v1, you can reasonably expect a certain amount of damage and so you just crank up the bulk or the damage stat to max to try to maximize your chances of killing everything in 1 or 2 hits. In VGC, that's less of a concern because you can double attack or be double attacked and that does change your concern with being KO'd or picking up a KO. Like how many things are surviving a double attack from Ushifu and Fluttermane? Do they really need max attack?
      The second reason I think is the big one and that's because of what VGC and Smogon actually are. VGC is mainly tournament play. The youtubers you watch for VGC are probably trying to compete in them and ideally go to worlds. So they're going to split hairs about what EVs let them survive what attacks or pick up a KO or outspeed vs. the common metagame threats. I think that's also easier in VGC because there's less relevant mons at a given time and all the top teams are pulling from a smaller pool. You're less likely to run into a weird mon in a world's tournament than you are on smogon ladder. Smogon Ladder is competive but it's not really. It's for fun. There's no prize pool for hitting first. Most of the people you see on Ladder are just trying to play pokemon and they don't want to think too hard about their teams and how they fit into the metagame, so they crank the two relevant stats and hop on with their favorite. But what you will see in single tournaments with a prize pool is those smaller pools of relevant pokemon running more predictable movesets and being EV'd very precisely to survive things or KO things or outspeed things. Because in a tournament space you can put thought into and predict things like that in a way you can't on ladder. One reason for that is that in a tournament with money on the line or the biggest tournament of the year, you run what you know is the best and know gives you the best chance to win, whereas on ladder you run what you think you can get away with and are more willing to try something weird because there's not really consequences for failure.
      You'll also see this difference in totally different games too. For example decks in Hearthstone look different for actual tournament play than they did on ladder because of the ability to predict who is likely to play what. Yugioh decks look different at locals or in online play than they do at worlds.

      Let’s set up a simple scenario. Flutter Mane max speed max spat. It KOs the slightly slower, bulkier Chien Pao (no sash cause singles) in front of it. They switch into Heatran or something to resist? Just switch. Easy.
      Now let’s set up the same scenario in doubles. That Chien Pao (let’s just pretend sash is broken) will go down to a dazzling gleam, but the Arcanine can and will KO you for doing so. You switch in your Lando for an intimidate. No bulk Flutter will drop instantly regardless of intimidate. Bulky Flutter Mane will survive, KO their Chien Pao, then be able to launch off a power gem next turn to KO the Arcanine.

      @itztaytay2 Před 4 měsíci

      You want 0 attack IVs anytime you aren't using an Attack based move yourself basically (and sometimes even if you are if it's purely utility). There are 2 reasons why, Confusion self damage hits which are based on your own attack, and enemies using Foul Play on your mon. Frankly both of these tend to be rare so not going the extra mile for a 0 attack IV and just settling for a decent one is rarely punished

    As someone that loves Registeel and Latias, it hurt that they were never really that good. Latias was always overshadowed by Latios, with its signature move being so weak not helping that while Registeel, along with the other regis, were quite uncommon especially as more stronger pokemon started to arrive into the scene. The two of them getting buffed (i count the removal of dynamax from the scene as a buff for Registeel) is such a wonderful thing I was not expecting GameFreak to do at all.

      If GF really wanted to, they can give Registeel Filter like they did MegaAggron. Maybe Regice gets Filter too and Regirock gets Solid Rock. Shame the OG Regis didn't got their own sig ability like -draco and -eleki
