The era and genre he was in. He was early 70's Glam. Overshadowed by the 60's psychedelic era and the late 70's hard rock era. And Glam was a UK niche, the style turned off American audiences and like it or not US market sets the trend. He was in a niche genre sandwiched between two powerhouse rock eras. It is a shame, nobody has a voice like that.
Not appreciated? He got honored for his contribution to british music, and awarded for alot of things after his Slade period, and is a very kind, and therefor beloved and respected man.
I totally, agree. Read Noddys bio, and a yank music voice training guru asked him how long he’d been singing like like that noddy said all my life- the guru said, I can’t do nothing for you 😁. Coz Noddy Rocks 👍
Totally .... Absolutely .... great band ... great era .... I like to connect on my YT Channel doing Bowie covers ... sometimes my One Man Band versions get people laughing ... I have a collection of rotten fruit that they donate onstage so I know keep the car running at stage exit left.
What a voice ! National treasure now . Was 8 when this came out , he's always been the sound of Christmas for my generation but there's so much more to him .
I saw this amazing group live in 1973 at King Georges Hall in Blackburn 🎤🤘🏼🎶 they were absolutely amazing 🤩 They were so loud 🎵 that my ears were still ringing 2days later 🤣😂 I loved it 🤘🏼🎸
Slade ruled the early to mid 70’s and were still producing good stuff in the early 80’s. Noddy Holder had one of the best rock voices around, he was so underrated.
I was eleven and just becoming aware of rock music ... I still love this song, but now I appreciate how much craft went into Slade's music hidden behind their image. That's why the songs have lasted so well. Listen to the bass line.
The best rock band in the world!!! I only ever saw them once, as a kid as l sneaked in to the victoria hall ln stoke on trent As my mother said l was too young to go. So l sneaked out of the house walked 3 miles and ran up the stairs to the in the hall and l was looking down on the band as they were playing this song and l will never forget that experience as long as l live. Thank you slade for such a memorable experience!!
I remember being in some good pubs when this was played. Beer was cheap, the room was filled like a fog with cigarette smoke and, the girls had mini skirts. What a great time to be young. :)) We had the young Stones, Bowie, Status Quo and Elton John and many more ...
My sister brought Sladest back from England in 1972. Still have the album and we always loved Noddy. He is a character. All the girls are wearing top hats because that was Noddy’s typical headwear. God bless everyone.
Crazy like older and demure still rocking out to this and I bought the album when it first came out. Folks didn't get it then and I don't know why. Awesome jam!😅
I wish i was a teenager again I remember putting on a 12 Inch vinal turn up the volume and listening to Slade . So people out there will someone build that damn time machine and take me back to the 70s PLEASE or pretty PLEASE
This is pure joy. It really is hard not to feel sorry for todays young uns who have to put up with the various misery guts and virtue signallers who inhabit the music landscape these days. Thank god for youtube and thank you Slade
Not comparing at all, there is nothing at all like the Slade version. Just pointing out that the band was all but unheard of in the USA. I hung out with some folks who were just into anything and everything British: Hawkwind, Barclay James Harvest, Lyndisfarne, Stteleye Span, pre-Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd, etc...
And they thought it was a horrible song and didn't want to play it. Glad they did. This song is very much responsible in part for the launch of the Metal era of the 80s. There is are several documentaries that credit this song for so much.
i just checked google; noddy was born in 1946. he was 27 in this. the man looked 50+ even back then! amazing song though, always loved that weird rhythm on the verses that oasis dumbed down
Thank you for this, it recalls my youth in the 70s! I love Slade! They don't make 'em like that any more! They certainly don't dress like that any more (o-oh no-o!) Fabulous!
I used to play this song over and over again. My neighbour loves it so much he threw a brick through my window so he could hear it louder.
Can never understand why Noddy wasn't more appreciated. One of the greatest rock voices in history.

Coz Noddy Rocks 👍
Ozzy said he had the best voice in R&R
This song gave me goosebumps at 17, and still does at 67. Timeless
same to me😇

How many times danced in the disco in Rome. At 18 years . Now at 68 I always listen to it with pleasure...

I wasn't even thought about 😂 he's also the sound of Christmas for me 🎉this song was out nearly 20 years before I was born😮 .. absolute banger

Wish I could’ve seen them live but I was only 9! The tv was at top volume when they came on. still listen to them now! Noddy is a legend!!!!
They still tour in Europe.
Hell on earth noddys voice ! Nothing can Beat this Sound ! Greetings from Lüneburg in Germany !
I first heard this in 1973 & I still play it & love it in 2020
How did I make it this far in life and not know that two of Quiet Riot's biggest hits were covers from a band that I'd never heard of? Mind blown 🤯!!
I know right! thats how I am here too 🤯
We live and learn
Quiet riot? 🤣
And by god, it sounds like the original is better!
Oasis did it better

Noddy is so into it in this performance I wished they would have kept the camera more on him because he looks so cool!
I was 12 in 1973 good music is timeless. 🎵🎧👍👌

Saw Slade twice in 1970, loudest concert I've ever attended

well they were not overrated in england thats for sure ...
..here we go again.... he was soooooooooooooooo 'underrated'...Yeah, right...
Agree 100% with you about Slade, as for Noddy he should go down as one of the greats of rock voices, truly outstanding.
Not underrated at all: record sales are the best indicator of how people rate a band, and Slade were the most successful British band of the 70s.

yep 19P for a pint of lager
2 hamlet cigars and 2 pints of tartan bitter £1.00
That was for the girls we drank cider and smoked benson's 🤣
Stones had been around for almost a decade at that time, but yeah, I take your point as they're almost octogenarians now, LOL.
This is now on a British TV advert, well a short bit of it and it's made me want to hear the whole song again. So here I am watching this. 😁
Definitely their best song, marvellous!
the good old times rocks so much! 70'S RULES!
Best Rock and Roll voice ever! A voice screaming that seems to sound through a powerful overdrive effect!
Such a classic. Great early 70s hard rock & roll, fun times! Wish I had been old enough to be there...
25th December 1973 Merry Xmas Everybody was No1
Untouchable Classic....... one of the best rock tunes ever written.
it sucked.

Yeah I just love rock
Yes. This is ace. And my Pinay fiancee is belting it out at the top of her little lungs in sympathy. How's that for a well travelled song?
Nope I like music that tastes good

This! ❤
Slade were a quite brilliant band. This is an absolute classic. They just didn't come out with one song at Christmas!
This is not a song.....it is an anthem! And I was there!! Wow.
Love the football highlight at the beginning, giving it the old late 20th Century VCR feel!
I remember singing this with my mates on air guitars in the playground at 10yrs old. Still love them.
One of the best songs ever 👍👍
Thankyou 😊
The best years in 70s with rock music at high school. Greating from Czech Republic
