    We've all heard of the "bundle of snakes" exhaust manifolds like those found on the Ford GT40 and Lotus 38. This one is significantly smaller in diameter, so I vote we call this exhaust manifold the "bundle of earthworms."

    This is pretty cool, have had this exact idea for years, I have just been too busy in life to make it happen. I’m glad someone is doing it. A quick little side not the length of the exhaust manifold, the fact that the displacement is small and the size of your intercooler, may make this set up a little laggy. The intercooler on my 3.0 making 550 hp at 22psi isn’t much bigger than yours. I can’t wait to watch the other videos you make to see your results.

    I always enjoy watching your videos, Cole. Adding this complete turbo set-up is for additional power, correct? I have not looked at the expense to complete this project but, every time someone attempts to gain more power from one of these motors, the cost always seems extreme. Unless there is a dying love to have a British motor (that will get worked quite a bit harder to produce power and thus, shorten it's life and reliability), why not opt for a fuel injected D-series Honda motor that will easily produce more power and start every day? The money spent will be much less, I am sure of it.

    Diverter valves route boost back into the intake, not the exhaust. The main purpose is to route the boost you've already generated into the intake to keep the turbo spooled up in between gear changes, reducing lag while still protecting the turbo from compressor surge.

    Good vid Cole. 10:38 Where’d you get the cool hose bends for the intake? You know, you’ve done all the measurements, research, and hard work for this build, you really should consider putting a kit together to sell. I know a lot of it is specific to your car, but a lot would be common to most minis. Good work!

      @classicminidiy  Před 11 měsíci

      Thank you! Both kits are of EXCELLENT quality. You can't go wrong with either. The main reason I am moving to the Bagsport kit, is that I wanted to try the new generation of Garrett turbos and I liked the orientation of the side mount kit on the Bagsport kit a bit more. Both are stainless, and both will perform excellently.

    • @classicminidiy

    Yikes $10k. A lot of this just wouldn't pass smog in CA, I don't think.
    Crankcase emissions used to get piped back into the inlet to get burnt in combustion, not sure how friendly it is just throwing them out the tail pipe.
    What kind of target power are you aiming for? It may have been easier to have just gone down the Honda conversion route.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před 2 lety +1

      Are cars older than 25 years still required to pass smog? The car itself is over 50 years old so at least in NC it’s exempt from those rules. I actually think this might be better (marginally) environmentally than the normal reburn method, since it’s actually getting proper oil separation rather than feeding that oil back into the combustion system. However I’m no scientist! 😂 targeting around 150-180. Would be happy there. I don’t much care for the Honda conversions, I prefer to keep the aseries. If I do a full engine/power unit swap it’ll be electric! 😎 ⚡️

    Formula for a turbocharger is heat energy increases air velocity it’s not the speed of the exhaust gas coming out
    Pays to be a mechanic, if you don’t how it works how can you fix it

    • @Dagowly83
      @Dagowly83 Před 2 lety +1

      For an ICE, heat alone does not increase air velocity, it is merely a byproduct of combustion which remains contributory. Pressure differential on opening the exhaust valve is the primary driving force (aKa blow down). Velocity must be maintained between it and the turbine wheel to transfer energy sufficiently. A cooler/denser exhaust would still make similar turbine speeds if the header remains optimal as the piston is a driving force. So it's a moot point.
