      Great stuff, loved the use of RUN! for the intro and even though I know a bit about both communities(I don't play melee but I sure as hell play a lot of tf2) you told some fresh stories I wasn't super aware of. The editing was on point and you made sure to keep a pretty neutral stance on both (apparently) controversial figures, so good job with that. Seeing cool videos like these makes me want to try out making a video on the stuff I love. Keep up the good work, you should be proud.
      Also you managed to piss off a lot of melee players who didn't bother to watch the video lol.

    This has reminded me of something, making me wonder about the best. Some dont get the recognition to even hope for it. And while recognition and skill can generally be linked to one another, that isn't always the case. Its sad that someone may be potentially the best, but they may have had some bad experience, or just couldn't click in time to get the chance to success.

    great video. i think your “Death of The Author” type statement at 29:20 is interesting. but i’m especially interested in where that line at 28:14 is drawn for others, as i feel like this video sidesteps some more serious or disturbing reasons that one could lose their reputation (which i won’t mention here. i think you get the idea).
    while hax wasn’t in a great mental space at the time, your video fails to mention some features of his video essay that made people like me who were out of the loop a lot more uncomfortable with him (quoting hitler, theorizing Leffen was a totalitarian, etc). i’ve also been seeing some comments here that cast some doubt in my non-melee mind that he was the undisputed technical G.O.A.T. and i feel like people will get the impression you’re moving the criteria to fit your conclusion (kinda like Boshy LMAO). either way, it was a great watch!

    Incredible video, seriously. Loved this.
    P.S., for those into melee tech skill, I'd recommend looking up the player "Relno," and his video "Godspeed." As far as raw technical difficulty, I'd say Relno set a standard above even Hax$, but he did not compete at nearly the same level or invest as much time into the community as Hax$ did. Going into this video I was thinking "idk I think Relno is the G.O.A.T. of technical skill," but this video reminded me well why that title ought to go to Hax$ after all. Thanks for the excellent video essay!

    I think the real problem for hax$ was his decision to position himself in a "it's me or leffen" situation. I think leffen definitely did deserve to be banned before but he seems like a more decent person nowadays. I don't think either leffen or hax$ should be banned, but at this point we're too far past the post to change anything.
    I also think the discourse on the boxx is generaly stupid. the fact that there's a melee controller that is more efficient, more comfortable, and comes with less risks, and people are unhappy about that is crazy to me. I think there's a lot of things that the melee community needs, and a lot of ways that they need to change. but I doubt they will change. I think if melee ever dies, it will be because the community was too stubborn to allow the game to thrive.

    Glossing over the history and creation of the B0XX kinda makes the story of Hax much prettier than the reality, so I get why you did it for the goal of this video, the story you were trying to tell. I kinda just feel like the nice pretty narrative where Hax was this beacon of the community until he weirdly decided to take down Leffen through community engineering falls apart when, you know, he had a history of doing this exact sort of thing and the only reason no one called him out for it before was because his previous target, Hit Box the creators of the Hit Box and Smash Box, the people who came up with the idea for a button controller for Smash, the people who by Hax's own admission were doing the thing already without him until he joined up, weren't socially connected to the Smash community at large and didn't have the reputation that he did and thus were deemed to be acceptable targets of takedown by the Smash community. Whether you take Hax's side or not in that situation, it's still a fact that Hax did not invent the idea for his controller and would not have even made the B0XX if it weren't for meeting the Hit Box guys at EVO where they were demoing the Smash Box, which opened Hax's mind to the possibility of alternate controller types. Hax was going to keep playing on GCC after his surgery and thought the Smash Box was a gimmick that wouldn't go anywhere until he played on it. Then after joining the team, getting some ideas, and then leaving the team to make a competing product, he puts out a takedown video for why the Hit Box team shouldn't be trusted and you should support his project instead of theirs. And of course, because Hax is such a great guy to work with, people he was partnering to make the B0XX would later go on to be very untrusting of Hax and growing a distaste for him as a person that they would leave the B0XX project, and one of those people went on to make their own competing project using the work they did with Hax on the B0XX, which became the Frame1 (imo the better controller of the two).
    Also framing the evidence.zip videos as being factually correct but just presented in a bad way is absolutely insane. Most of the points raised in those videos, and I've watched all of the revisions, were insane ramblings, past transgressions that the community already acknowledged and moved on from, and petty nitpicks. He absolutely in no way made a good case for himself and it's frankly nuts to imply they were well researched or intelligent videos. You cannot in good faith say that points such as "Leffen was mocking me by wearing a red shirt" are intelligent and thought out, even the Hbox stuff you could argue changed his reputation in the community negatively, but Leffen is allowed to hate someone just like tons of people hate Leffen. You can argue the videos weren't a strong enough case to be banned, but let's not pretend they were anything but a smear campaign for Leffen that simply failed because they were built on a foundation of sand. And this is why the glossing over of the B0XX history kinda changes the narrative of reality, because you could maybe give Hax the benefit of the doubt and say the evidence.zip videos were a one off incident made in good faith if this one thing existed in a vacuum, but it doesn't. It is the second major incident of Hax putting out videos to smear the reputation of his DIRECT competition. The best you can really argue is that the indefinite ban is too strict for the things Hax did, but he still did them. His reputation was created by him alone.
    In the context of greatness, I think it's hard to argue that Hax deserves the status you give him. He was a top player for a while but never the best, he didn't have the idea for the controller he now builds his status on he took it from someone else (by his own admission), he knows a lot about the engine and mechanics of Melee but tons of people do, Hax makes content for very niche small aspects of Melee but is that enough to consider him the greatest of all time? It's a flimsy premise that only makes sense when you ignore core details to what actually happened.

      The evidence.zip v2 video does provide a lot of points and clear evidence as to why leffen is a problem. I don't agree with the way he went about conducting himself, even in the revised video. The big problem was that he still assumes leffen's intent far too much and often says things with certainty that he shouldn't have. However, the evidence itself that the v2 video provides and the situations it highlights are still valuable even if the analysis in them is not great. Its pretty obvious that the way leffen has conducted himself not only in smash, but in other fighting game communities is extremely irresponsible and harmful towards the communities. Its important that his genuinely bad behavior in MANY different occasions gets highlighted because he is such a big figurehead who has (and used to have even more) of a giant sway on the opinions of the communities he was in. Its also important because its clear that leffen wants to just sweep much of it under the rug and often times just straight up lies about many things well after the fact. All of this is coming from someone who frequently watched leffen for probably about a year (when ultimate came out) and would constantly pick up on his problematic behavior the more and more I watched him. However I can understand not wanting to watch or trust hax's video because the first one was very unhinged and the second one still has many flaws. A much better video that highlights leffen's terrible behavior was the one by "thefranChise".

    This video is incredible. I bet you had some inspiration from the CZcamsr EmpLemon, you made the video with equal levels of quality and engagement compared to him. I'm really enjoying the direction you're taking your channel, all your videos are very interesting and easily digestible, even when they are longer than 20 minutes. congratulations, I see you with 1 million+ subscribers in no time

    When I saw the title of this video and watched the intro, I thought you were referring to hax as the goat of melee not the goat of tech in melee. Maybe you should've made that more clear? As you never mentioned that he's specifically the goat of melee tech until more than half way through the videp

    • @bladonski
      @bladonski Před 5 měsíci +6

      Just thought I'd say that as on a first glance this video seems very silly, and Hax seems like he is just shoehorned in to anyone knowledgable about melee. You probably should've specified the melee tech part cause that is auch more agreeable statement.

      The video is entirely about technically skill. It was specifically mentioned in the intro. It applies to Boshy as well. He isn’t the greatest competitive tf2 player. Not even remotely close. But he is agreeably the best at rocket jumping.

    An amazing video, but unfortunately, you missed the part where rocket jumping DIDN'T kill known pyromaniac Abraham Lincoln, but instead, it was John "Tower of Hats" Booth, who did so to add Honest Abe's terrifyingly tall hat to his tower

    Hey man, just in case you weren't aware - Hax is actually unbanned in his region and has been regularly entering NYC tournaments. He's still "banned" generally but it is down to the TOs of any event he tries to enter to decide whether or not they allow him to enter.
    Really good video though amazing production value and writing.

      @@christomanci I watched his new video, while I understand why he's still talking about what Leffen did in evidence.zip for clarity purposes, it comes off as if he's not really learned from his mistakes and that to bring this stuff up again looks incredibly bad compared to simply apologizing and not speaking on the matter again. It's as if he doesn't want to be unbanned, with how shit the apology/ban appeal videos have been.

      @@christomanci I would love to see him back, all he would need to do is stop bringing up 10+ year old incidents to do with Leffen which come from when he was 15 years old and we all know he was a stupid idiot. I was extremely hurt by what those testimonies had to say and how Leffen mistreated them especially the one pertaining to a deaf person being mocked for their disability. However I don't see a world where Leffen is still saying this, he's not a threat to the Smash community. Hax can prove he's not a threat either if he'd just drop this drama and make a sincere apology, but he seems wholly incapable of doing that.

    As a melee player whos been following the scene since 2013 I knew the melee part of this video was gonna be whack when you showed a blue fox talking about the GOAT. Im pretty sure the only melee player who would call hax the most technical player is hax. Hes also on box so its not even really the same as controller. I watched the first video Hax put out on leffen and you did not do a good job of representing just how wacky and delusional his attempted leffen takedown video was. One of his proofs that leffen was a dark triad pyscho was that leffen wore the same red addidas track pants that hax wore. I really enjoyed the first half of the video but the second half has made me start questioning just how accurately you told boshis story.

    • @Ubercentraltf2
      @Ubercentraltf2 Před 5 měsíci +4

      Idk about melee. But boshi’s story is correct.

    • @sunderkeenin
      @sunderkeenin Před 5 měsíci +5

      The problem, essentially, is that separately from Hax's genuinely atrocious presentation to the degree that it makes sense later on that he admitted to be having an episode of what was later diagnosed as psychosis during it and the excessive conclusions relevant to such behavior, the video also detailed a factual series of well-documented events essentially irrefutable in nature which clearly show bannable behavior from Leffen damaging to a degree much farther than anything Hax could've done with what looked like and was a psychosis-fueled rant.
      The Melee community's failure to handle both aspects of the video and the hyperfixation on simply removing Hax is a travesty and a severe failure of basic moderation ability, and is more damning for the community and TOs at large than Hax's ban being indefinite is.
      The singular moderation action being on only one of the rulebreaking individuals simply because the community is too terminally online and twitter-driven to digest a larger chunk of well-distinguished contexts is simply a huge loss for everyone, and that the hyperfocus on that one individual has resulted in an excessive ban length for something far less severe and with far less damage to the game than, for example, Boshy's case is another reason not to trust the moderation quality of Melee's tournament organizers.
      Evidence.zip2's actual greatest negative effect on the integrity of Melee should be in the ability to trust that organizers can make reasonable and sensible decisions of reasonable and sensible scale while considering the full context and facts of a situation instead of simply bowing to children screeching on reddit and twitter with knee-jerk and hasty reaction.
      Being present in the TF2 community as well and watching the whole thing unravel after Zike, Waldo, and co. found and executed a fun trick(the green box) which set off Boshy and triggered all of this investigation, he hasn't significantly twisted any part of the story really. Boshy was also personally tolerated rather than liked by a significant number of players because of the poor manner in which he comported himself often, and even after his ban continued to be respected for his skill as a player which is why he has been essentially welcomed back now that his ban has expired and he has mellowed out in general.

      Hax's video first video had bad delivery and reached to far but the facts he stated about Leffen were true. His part 2 video did a better job. I think people who watched both objectively would disagree with you

    • @christomanci
      @christomanci Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@SplashyGhost3ye I watched all of them. And Im actually in the Melee community and go to tournaments, do you? The majority of the scene does not agree with you. And the reason for that is Hax's video contained "facts" that were stringed together like Pepe Silvia. Even in his most recent video his "evidence" is just the worst correlation and stating X things therefore Y with ridiculous leaps in logic. Yes Hax's videos do contain (some) facts but the facts he shows do not in any way prove his conclusion.
