In today's Europa Universalis IV (EU4) video we will be voiding every province in the world except for one capital province per continent. The nations of Brandenburg, Aztec, Kongo, and a couple others will be tasked with colonizing and repopulating the entire world, and then they have to fight it out for dominance!

In Old Norse they called it "Ísland" which translates literally to "ice-land", it just happens to look like "island" in English lol
Yea Island in norway is øy
Ice was written as "is/īs" in English as recently as the Middle English period. This is not down to Norse influence on English however, but rather just to their shared heritage as Germanic languages. "Ice" and "land" are very common highly preserved nouns.
In my home dialect of Low Saxon in North West Germany, ice is still written as "is" and spoken with the long i similar to English "ee". So the Low Saxon word for Iceland is the same as the Old Norse and Icelandic words, it is pronounced about the same way and it means the same.
Low Saxon also has about the same prononciation for Greenland (Gröönland/Grǿnland) Old Norse had, but the only other language this seems to be somewhat conserved in is Norwegian (in some dialects only, most likely). Swedish looks promising with them writing Grönland, but it's not true.
"To grin" has a long i/ee in Low Saxon, so following a similar logic to that from the video, Greenland would mean Grinland.
Also ja.

I think it's fine to force spawn the reformation. Although you technically interfere with the AI-only experience, I prefer it when the countries keep getting technologies steadily. Also, the unique mechanics in each age of the game is super fun to see! How they start blobbing with absolutism and how the revolution changes the world is just cool to see. So please spawn in the reformation!
E
No!!!
i do these at home for fun and if ai stops progressing because of some decision i will tag and do it for them
I don’t really care one way or the other whether you help along the AIs. All I ask is that you be consistent. I think that if you’re going to help Mongolia upgrade to Yuan then it only seems fair that you then help Brandenburg upgrade to Prussia.
That’s a fair point, I’ll keep that in mind
E
I mean those two things were completely different
@@ottokaare5925how?
@@sorenyoung5919one is him forcing through the reformation, the other was him clicking a button that the ai is coded not to click. They did everything they needed to to do it, just couldn’t because of a code that says “is ai = false”
i personally love tsardom, and especially great veche republic, because spamming streltsy is really fun.
Truth! Great Vichy was an awesome addition to the game
@Chewbert uh sir.. i would like to say the Canadian territory is called nova scota, i think while newfoundland [prob butchered] is more north
Iceland in norwegian means Island, and yes it is written the same as the word island. Just that the difference is that "ice" in english is "is" in norwegian whilst "land" is the same
In swedish iceland is called island with means ice land
bro wtf this is confusing
funny, in portuguese we call islandia
@@kahedakylar Iceland translated to norwegian is “Island” but that does not mean we use the word “island” when talking about a rock out in the ocean we use the word “øy” for that. I am not sure how I’ll make it much simpler
In czech we call it Island
Absolutely gotta be Republics. Especially later on when you have the government reforms done, you can essentially choose your leaders first trait and then just bump then up to 6/6/6 within a decade. It's so so powerful when done by a player.
me: i need to do something productive today
also me: *watching AI fighting each other for 94. time*
Actually Iceland got it’s name from one Viking who visited it and called it Iceland cause there was a lot of ice, Ísland is Iceland in Icelandic cause ís is ice and land is land. Island in Icelandic is “eyja” and in Norwegian “øy”
Here's an idea:
Simulating ancients- by that I mean, do a custom nation in historical places of ancient civilizations (or use preexisting tags if they exist) and let them colonize the world and see them fight for dominance
An ancient times mod exists for EU4: Imperium Unversalis
@@Otto500206 thats not what I meant. I meant one province minors that would colonize the world
Mediterranean had Rome, central Europe has Germanic tribes, Scandinavia has early vikings, eastern Europe has Slavic tribes northern Asia got mongols etc
There was a mod like this being developed many years ago, but I haven't ever seen it again and I don't remember it's name either (all I know is that it appeared around the time the states mechanic was introduced into the game, as the mod used it to make it so new nations would appear from the old ones).
I think what happened is that Palawa formed Australia, but when you form a colonial nation you have to give up all the land outside of that CN. Which, in this case, returned it to... Palawa since there were no other cores.
"I think it's over here in Newfoundland." Points at Nova Scotia.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed...
The name of iceland comes from the icelandic "Ísland" which means ice land, NOT "island" which is "eyju" in icelandic.
I see the similarity with Dutch. In Dutch th country is called Ijsland (means ice land). The word for island would be eiland, which seems to be a mixture of mostly English and a bit Icelandic.
It is believed that iceland is called that due to all the drifting ice around it way way back.
9:44 you could write your own event which has a 50/50 chance to spawn the reformation and can only fire once
I really like hordes.
There map positioning is really good and there much more active and fun than all others.
spawn every "rome" tag (rome, byz, rum, HRE, romania) with their largest territorial borders each (with a lot of overlap) and then see which ones come out on top
Oh my goodness that’s a good idea
So would ol
I dont have the dlc to remove bad kings or queens. So I always go democracy/republic. Because then I can pick which power to focus on.
Thats a dlc???
Lmaooo
crack all the dlcs
Dude common sense is like one of the most important dlc
Feudal Theocracy is the most powerful government form in the game, in my eyes
Both Persia’s and Mughal’s governments are good.
Ultra Persia go brrrrrr
i think the reason pdx disables some events for ai is that they will set the provinces as provinses of intresst, its like when the mughals wants the world because of its mechanic. And that makes shenanigans as ai italy wants the entire mediterranean sea and will break alliences and stuff like that
The Idea of this concept is great. Maybe we can get another roubd where u leave 1 province in each region (defined by the game).
That Palawa comeback was glorious. Those dreamers dreamed!
Nice video! I'm glad to see Palawan and Australia hold their own... if they'd joined forces they would have had ~10k development, and get up into the top 3 or so. Ideas for more vids? How about "they coulda been contenders"... that is, fill as much of the map as possible with countries that flowered briefly and then vanished or languished. Thinking Lotharingia, Knut's empire, Toltecs, Apache, Tibet, the Seleucid Empire, Axum, Sealand, the Portland Autonomous Zone, colonial American states with those ridiculous west-streching borders, Welsh Patagonia, Scottish Darien, imperial Benin, Nestorian Chaldaea, Angkor Wat, Kamehameha's Hawaiian Empire, and poor always dumped-upon Armenia. Oh, you can throw in a Byzantium or two, because Deus lo vult.
I think instead of force spawning the reformation you should change it so that the reformation spawning isn't what ends the age of discovery. Maybe choose a year for it to always end
It has to be Kalmar Union + Austrian Archduchy, it is so easy to make the Vassal Swarm it is insane
Horde life is best life. I've just had my first world conquest with Oirat and it was awesome. Looking back I see a lot of things I could have done to make my time easier but the hardest part was to keep concentrated and to not get complacent.
IMO theocracy is the best gov. type just because of +20% siege ability policy with divine+espionage ideas. If you stack it with offensive ideas, army traditions and professionalism plus a couple another bonuses here and there you can get up to 85% and even level 8 forts fall almost *instantly*
I definitely prefer forcing through some things that are normally essential for game continuation.
Feudal Theocracy (the unique Persian Government Reform) is unbeatable. Easily accessed early game by Ajam and literally allows you to claim any bordering province.
If i remember correctly from school. The people that named it Iceland was fugitives from the Norwegian king. So they named it Iceland to deter visitors and Greenland was named to get people to go there instead.
*Chewbert force forms Yuan*
Palawa: "I thought we were friends?"
Iceland recived its name because when the norses arrived, it had a lot of ice.
Greenland had even more ice and was discovered later. The "green" part comes from norse mythology, under the belief calling it that way will make the land fertile and lush
I trust your judgement Chewy when it comes to this, depends on what you find more fun :D
I would like, if you made videos, where you support cool nations/ or intervene.
Yeah, sound extremely nice to me!
Also! Great video again, I love your stuff!
Greatings from Saxony 💪🏻
maybe not so powerful but republics are my fauvorite for roleplay purposes, for example switzerland forming free german republic sounds fun to me
is that a gov type
One province island nations only could be neat!
What if you did a video where every government type is its own nation, so all hordes merged, all republics merged etc
I'd like to see one with nations only on tiny islands. Oceania, the Caribbean, even ones that are uninhabited when the game starts like st helena or something.
force the reformation in this types of games is pretty much a must as otherwise it keeps the age progression stagnant
While watching this, I was thinking it'd be interesting to see a one nation per culture group with colonizing.
I think triggering events is fine,
I think it would be more interesting to give them less money, like only +10-30 a month rather then +92
Honestly, to the question of what the best government type is, it would be Christian monarchies specifically due to PUs and inheriting thrones. I always snag England and Muscovy, netting me a ton of land regardless of which nation I play.
Euro-Asia looks like the 3 countries from the book "1984 "
I like to play as republic, after goverment reforms rework. I pick as many random bonuses for "monarch" as i can. In early game in 3rd tier(i think) there is reform that can make your "monarch" rule for life (+25% avarage lifespan) and after that you can pick 4 guys (one is nephew of last leader) (or lotery). They usualy have rather good stats and my reforms give them +4 aditional mana points in total.
I find it more enjoyable becouse it is basicly monarchy with reduced RNG with heirs and with high republic tradition you get reform progress faster. And if you want to get rid of useless ruler you only lose 1 stability when having him clear the rebels.
"island" , as it is called in scandinavian languages actually means land of ice, the word for island in norwegian is "øy"
I am such a massive fan of Republics! They start off weak yes but after you get all your reforma its such a good rype. Your leaders start as average amd cam become overpowered eaaily.
Feudal theocracy as you are getting acces to goverment mechanics that are giving you clamis at everyone around you + constuction cost and dev cost in capital area and acces to divine ideas also missionary is nice too
I wonder if it would be possible to have HRE emperor election changed so that, say, every two years they'd elect a new one instead of only after emperors death.
I like theocracy for the Devine idea with it's juicy siege bonus. And then switch to republic if I really need that juicy mana generation. But if I start as monarchy I don't bother switching it to theocracy unless it's via event or mission tree
I once played a florecne Republic game where I constantly had rulers above 4/4/4.
@7:30 its actually called" papua new guinea" in full the island is new guinea, (which means as much as new land) and the people are papua
Island is "the land of ice" like Grönland is "The green (pasture) land" Greenlands name is only for marketing to attract settlers. Vinland "Pasture land"
Military dictatorship I find to be a way to remain permanently dominate, army tradition-> general-> strong leaders-> more war-> army tradition... I may be biased though as I just love Milan🤣
I found this video to be very fun. What do you think of a video where it is five or six nations battling it out to see which form of Christianity is superior? Ethiopia for Coptic, etc...
Theocracy is the best if you can take brewing empire(or something like that) and the open public elections also the divine ideas are the cherry on top
I am not 100% sure but I think corruption does not actually affect AI's min autonomy so thats prob why they didnt root it out
I assume it’s just economic logic
Imo, republic is very powerful with its ability to produce god-like rulers at reliable rate
Monarchy cos of PU. U can obtain 1500 dev nations with one war only getting around 60 ae. Also you could just keep an eye for disputed succesion tab and simply royal marry to have chance of ae free pu
No, Chewbert. Island simply means is-ice land-land, land of ice
14:37 Maybe Palawa changed its capital outside of Australia and that turned it into a colonial nation, and the colonial nation broke free.
I mean you sorta did Interfere with the Yuan Button Click so I think the Reformation would be fine as Well.
I really miss the old fantasia map on EU2. So many fun memories.
Probably already been mentioned but island in norwegian is øy, we call it Island which is just Iceland in norwegian
the reason Palawa lost australia is, if a colony nation forms a nation, (ex. spanish mexico forming mexico) they lose all colonies outside of their colonial territory
Corruption was brutal
Republics are really cool.
If you're good at managing republican tradtion, you will just always have god tier rulers
"over here in newfoundland" while circling nova scotia
Island in Norwegian means "Ice land"; it looks like the english word but has a different origin. :>
Prussian Monarchy, Austrian Imperial Monarchy, and unified Holy Roman Empire are pretty good government forms
Making Prussia would have been to OP
Reminds me of borders from 1984. Aztec = Oceania, Germany = Eurasia, Palawa = Eastasia
Republic is basically a gurantee to have a 6/6/6 about 80% or more of the time.
I think that if it doesn't spawn by 1520 spawn it in, hurts to see 2000+ years and still age of discovery
island in danish/norwegen means iceland directly translated, its because back in the day people thought iceland was greenland and greenland was iceland or something. here in denmark people say its because people went to iceland and there were a ton of ice on it, so we naturally named it land of the ice aka iceland, and greenland cuz of the same reason but there was a lot of green.
but looking back at it, it makes no sense at all
afaik some of the first viking explorers called it Greenland when they came back to be able to lure colonists there.
Great Video 👍. I think you should use your judgement and force some Things If yoi know they wont happen otherwise.
Horde or Republic, so much mana
Bad idea: eu4 but everyone is a native (they have tribal lands and stuff)
Even tho my favourite goverments are monarchies one republic type is above all and it is sich rada which if you do things right and form poland from zaporoze you can get like 140 cavarly combat ability and infinite cossacks regiments
Island is Old Norse for Ice Land, so Iceland is actually correct I'm afraid. They named it that because it's bloody cold.
I think you should push reformation just to change age. It was still age of discovery at the end so no absolutism
If I can, after Monarchy I go Republic, royal marriage is needed early after that I don't really need to be friendly to the AI, and just crush.
Hordes are op. Republic generate most mana via normal means monarchies have pu and theocracies have beer reforms
can you do this with one province per landmass/continent? so also having England, Copenhagen, the Caribbean, etc. on top of the usual suspects
7:20 sure. So North America starts EXACTLY at border between Aztecs and Incas
My guess is that palwa moved their capital and was forced to form a colonial nation in Australia
Video two of asking: Can you do a Each dynasty is a Country? so when you they royal marry they get auto-inherited. Including the non-catholic nations and republics?
I would say that Christian Monarchies are the most powerful in EU4 because of Personal Unions alone. No other government type allows you to take over European juggernauts such as France, Spain, Great Britain and Russia in a single war. Monarchies in general are also great since you can get -10% minimum autonomy for your territorial cores which you can pair with the -20% by becoming the Economic Hegemon and another -10% from Expansion Ideas. You can also squeeze in another -5% in trade company provinces, potentially bringing a territorial core down to 55% minimum autonomy. In other words, territorial cores end up giving you up to 450% more taxes, production income, manpower and force limit.
But in terms of sheer monarch power generation and the ability to go Wide AND Tall, The Ambrosian Republic is truly something else. By getting the two government reforms that reduces election cycles down to two years and stacking adviser cost reduction modifiers, you could afford to enjoy having 15/15/15 monarch point generation by 1500.
(Peasant Republics can only have up to 15/15/14 since they can't have the Nobility Estate, meaning you get locked out of the +1 mil power)
Also, when you already have a 6/6/6 ruler that you want to re-elect, don't click the option to re-elect them. Instead, the game will choose that option for you about 5 months after you receive the event but not choosing any of the options. This gives you 5 months worth of your yearly republican tradition gain and 6/6/6 monarch points for free.
(And yes, this also works when your 6/6/6 ruler dies, with the game automatically choosing the 4/1/1 candidate. Though you may want to pick the 1/4/1 or 1/1/4 candidate 4 months after you receive the event.)
as a british man, i would not like the incans to take the falklands
Livonian Order gets access to an amazing theocracy goverment through their mission tree: Crusading Empire.
You get militarization WITHOUT any malus to gov cap, 33% manpower in true faith provinces, 2% missionary strength, and holy war/purging of heresy cb's.
14:45 likely in elder futhorc there is no C, a C is ponounced as K phonetically, our C is phonetically close to their s, in futhorc its either iskland or or isjland phonetically
MAMLUK Government, I think it affords good role play depending on what culture you choose.
you can have divine ideas as a republic or monarchy...
could you do some of these videos again with the Flatten Dev mod/
I feel like it would help balance things out a little bit to prevent things like Brandenburg having thousands of dev more than other countries because Europe has more dev per province than most other areas or Indian nations being economic powerhouses that run away with the game without ever spreading outside India.
Lore of Eu4 but Only one Province per continent is settled momentum 100
Finally, no more big Bengal.
Republic because in the early game you can have strong rulers and you don't lose stability on death
I think teocracy is the best goverment form unless you are a christian monarchy or have a special gov reform. It just has a great ability to expand and still has a good economy.
Brandenburg really having historical borders
I see what you did there
Republic. If your leader sucks, no worries, they’ll be gone soon and you won’t have to wait until they die (though you probably want them dead anyways), and you got options to choose from!
Plus love having more cultures to accept because I love being the ruler that unites and respects all their subjects. 😊
I will like to see this video concept again but with another nations and all provinces being 3 dev so we can see who develops. It will also be more fair for the african and american nations were the development its more sparse! 🙃
republics are super fun and kind of op, you basically just always have 6/6/6 rulers and only have to spend a little bit of mil mana to keep republican tradition above 70.
What if every continent in the old World had its own HRE
