  • This video is the second half of Part II of a projected three-part series, with an added epilogue. On completion, all the episodes will then be edited and combined in a single video. This segment relates the almost unbelievable mistake made by suspected modernists anxious to debunk Saint Philomena and thereby presumably prove the falsity of traditional religious faith.
When Professor Orazio Marucchi, the eminent Italian archeologist, declared in 1903 he had proved Saint Philomena never existed, he did so based on bad science, falsified evidence, and without making his own examination. Worse, he committed a scientific error so great it verges on incompetence. It calls into question all his professional work, not just his attack on Saint Philomena. His error is so incredible it suggests he invented a shoddy and phenomenally unconvincing case to “prove” a personal opinion instead of using reason, and assumed he could convince people based on his reputation, not by evidence or logic.
Nevertheless, despite Marucchi’s obvious scientific error, which even pagans, atheists, and agnostics can see instantly contradicts reason, for more than a century the suspected modernist Father Hippolyte Delehaye, S.J. and others have called traditional religious faith and practices into question based on what Marucchi said. They insist Marucchi’s work proves absolutely Saint Philomena never existed, and veneration of her is a scandal.
It is no such thing, as this video shows. The real scandal is so many people have accepted Marucchi’s falsified claim and Delehaye’s self-serving declaration without question. It makes us wonder why people no longer seem able to examine facts objectively and use reason to reach their own conclusions.
