- The Waorani people who live deep in the Amazon jungle of remote eastern Ecuador are one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes in the world and they get most of what they eat by catching it from the jungle, with handmade blowguns and curare poison that they make themselves. My friends and I had the pleasure of accompanying them on one of their hunts recently and I wanted to try doing it like they do, which is to say completely naked head-to-toe. Hands down one of the craziest things I’ve ever done!

As someone else said, this humanizes the tribes 100x better than any documentaries out there. It's so cool seeing the similarities in communication and the stark differences as well.

This is more authentic and closer to the actual life experience of tribes living in the Amazon than any BBC documentary I've seen. You should get an award for this stuff
There have been many documentaries done in the past. Others have gone to the Amazon and lived naked with the tribes. The young generation woukldnt know about them. Pretty sure it was the national geographic channel who aired most of them in the early 2000's
The Waorani tribe seem to be humble people. Although it may have been awkward for you to be put into a situation like this, we still applaud your courage for taking such huge risks.
They used to kill people like crazy, then they were introduced to Jesus and everything changed. They are the ones that killed the 5 missionaries, and some of the widows and their children went to live with them and show forgiveness. It totally changed their society.

Honestly, this video could've been a full blown 1,5 hour documentary and I would've watched it without even noticing. This was the most insightful and interesting view into the life of an amazon tribe I've ever seen. Even National Geographic couldn't pull sth like this off.

I had the experience of being tossed in a clothes dryer all stripped down after coming out of a pool with one of my friends at a pool party next thing we knew two of our friends shut the door and turned the dryer on.bothe of us were tumbling around in the nude.
The courage to go into the jungle naked is actually insane! Knowing what resides in those jungles and still going in is a remarkable accomplishment. To really immerse yourself in the culture like that takes guts.

This is a real DOCUMENTARY! I've learned and understood more than I ever would from this video versus any standard documentaries on any streaming platforms.
this is by far my favorite episode….The Waorani tribe were so generous to allow the rest of the world a glimpse of their lifestyles. Ari, you and your crew are real champions.
I used to think Ari was brave for trying all the random food he would eat but this takes it to a whole new level. Much respect for putting your life on the line to share this unique culture with us.

But please be careful, the way you are framing your admiration implies that you are actually surprised to see how "humanized" indigenous people are, as if your were led to think before they were not.
@@DaBigPear sorry, I meant to refer to the idea of 'uncontacted tribes' rather than indigenous people in general. I used to hear news about how such modern-day uncontacted groups were incredibly hostile and should be avoided at all costs, etc., so I'm definitely glad that this video provided an inside look and expanded my knowledge :)

@@rainspiritthey are not uncontacted though, and do a lot of media and legal work for the Amazon protection. He mentioned in a video that there are uncontacted tribes in the area, you definitely shouldn't mess with them (for their and your own sake).

So glad to have been a part of this. This was one of the most intense experiences of my life! We really did it though and somehow survived. At some point we got lost deep in the jungle at night and we only made it out due to those yells from the boat. Will never forget this one...truly amazing.

My skin is extremely sensitive, I could never do this simply for the fact that I have sensory issues when things unexpectedly touch me and I'm afraid of contracting diseases from bloodthirsty parasites. This guy's courage is from another dimension that I cannot see.

@@ak5659 We really should normalise being barefoot more. It's healthy for your feet. Wear shoes, or even socks, is unnatural and our feet are in constant confinement. Toes being pushed together constantly making us unable to move them freely. It's awful. I've started taking off my socks at home recently so my feet can be healthier.

I’m from America but my ancestors and family are indigenous natives in Ecuador. It’s so fascinating seeing people who look like they could be my brothers live so freely and off of just the earths natural materials
well this is it what anthropologists dream of i guess. I really have to admit i am amazed that you did all of this. It needs a lot of confidence and respect for other cultures to do this. Like a lot of people would stay dressed or didn't go hunting with the tribe.
I love how Ari started off from just walking around NYs china surprising them with mandarin, all the way to this documentary level type of content with these tribes and their rare languages. Its been cool watching him over the years. This isn't just a language channel but much more. The examples of cross cultural exchange shown in a lot his videos is what we need more in the world.

Agreed. But to be fair to Ari, the Waorani people are well-adapted to their environment. From their skin to their specific muscle-tone, this isn't terrifying, painful, muscle-exhausting work for them. They are built like that through hundreds of generations, as well as simply living it every day. So, the tribe doesn't have a special amount of "resilience." It's like trying to flap your arms and fly, and appreciating how special birds are, because they can do it. It's just what they're adapted to do.

The most underrated scene starts @ 14:02. The way he meticulously sets up the dart to be loaded into the blow gun was absolutely first class. He did this in seconds without taking an eye off the monkey and hit it first try. It was so innate in his nature. It's undeniably certain that he is a master hunter. Thank you Xiaoma for showing us this kind of content.
He also breaks the branch next to him as a marker! As to not get lost I mean and it was all just instinct, as soon as he felt the branch he broke it

And this is everiday life for tribal people. You do this during day and in the evening having good times by the fire with your friends and family. Ok. Now back to reality, 9-5 job, sit in the traffic, trying to figure in a wallmart are those eggs free range and if they are what that actualy means.

i think a lot of these people kind of live between the worlds, in this day and age. he spoke Spanish, too, they had a boat--this isn't like an uncontacted people. which honestly makes the culture even more fascinating to me, in a way--they see what else is on offer but still choose to maintain a lot of their traditional way of life

They made the jokes about your shaft, but you and your crew have the biggest spheres this side of the equator. To almost literally follow these people blindly in the jungle at nightfall takes a type of courage that *would* leave anyone happy to be alive. And yet these people do this regularly. Life is so diverse, and I'm so happy you're able to catch it on camera for all of us. So glad you made it back, hope you can take a break and enjoy being back with your family for a bit before your next big adventure.

Incredible. You really put your body on the line out there in the jungle, and handled it incredibly well, where 99.9% of CZcamsrs would have quit after that first search. And the footage you captured has to be of anthropological significance. Just amazing.

It is impressive how these people are super adapted to the jungle, their bodies, their movements to avoid harm, their orientation methods, knowing what to eat, where to find it, they do not need anything from outside. They are made for the jungle. and the jungle made them.

And we all came from people like these ... no matter what culture. Europeans had to struggle against extreme cold in Winter and hunt to stay alive. It's amazing how we got here at all! We certainly didn't care about pronouns back then.

You are incredible. This was so refreshing to see someone just like us do something in this manner. You were authentic and vulnerable to the unknown but relished in every sting, bite,needle,heat of the humidity kind, and did it with grace. No pretention, no need to 'prove' yourself or conquer the environment like so many do. You immersed yourself in their ways and trusted them to have your back. I hope there us more footage because for me, this is the best thing you've ever done. Thanks for the ride.

I am full Native American and I am very impressed with your experience. And honestly I don't think I could keep up either. The hunters are incredible and the people so honest and friendly. Everything possible must be done to preserve their way of life. And thank you for showing respect for their language and culture, the world needs more people like yourself.

I'm honestly so impressed and amazed by what this guy does!! He's the only person I've seen on recording that has actually IMMERSED himself into another culture and actually isn't afraid to try what the other culture does. And learning the language too is like the icing on the cake. The one thing I loved about this tribe is that the lady made a WHOLE functioning basket out of some jungle leaves, that is skill right there. I love that they just utilize the most out of the resources they have (obviously as they're a tribe). I really enjoyed this adventure you've shared with us and the experience seems amazing. These last two videos have been really cool to watch. It’s amazing how language lets you drop into a culture so much more fluidly. How receptive they are to having you there and teaching you just because that language barrier is gone so quickly. Very very cool videos .

Learning well-known and widespread languages is not an easy task, but learning a language from one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes is amazing! I believe that this attitude of not only learning their language, but hunting with them, demonstrated a great respect for their culture and way of life. Make more videos like this if you can. Congratulations on your curiosity and perseverance in making this short documentary.
