it all comes down to the fact that me and him are hard workers and want to chase our dreams in our lives. we share a like mindedness that allows it to not matter if we speak other languages.

@@Shindenize You are right. In the documentary they referred to them repeatedly as "Sumos" too. The opening clip see them saying in the car we must call them Rikishi. I might be wrong, but sounds like Thomas Brag (France) is making the mistake most often. Or maybe I mean Staffan Taylor (Sweden), either way both are non-native speakers. Having lived over 20 years in France, I can tell you it's difficult living in a different country.

The newer you are, the lower you are on the totem pole. You do all the chores, cook the food, do the shopping, cleaning, etc. AND have to do all the training on top of that. This is an awesome ancient form of fighting, and mad respect to these guys who dedicate their life to it and are just absolutely ferocious. I haven't watched much Sumo wrestling so I still haven't adjusted to constantly seeing gigantic celluloid - covered butt cheeks jiggling around all over the place. Crack city USA! I think I know what some of these guys had for lunch yesterday and could construct a 3-dimensional model of the contours of their ass, pimples included. OK, I'm done. Butts are funny, what can I say. Butt - I'm sure after watching it more I won't be so distracted by the big white butts and the 12 inch butt cracks to go halfway up their backs. Because the fighting itself is super impressive and cool to watch, and heck I'd love to try it sometime (and then it'll be my gigantic white butt flapping around with some weird fabric shoved into my crack). I used to do jui-jitsu and have done other martial arts and this one just seems incredible. The only thing is - I worry about how long these guys will live with the diets they eat. I hope I'm wrong and they all live super long and healthy lives :)

4:09 Staffan's the most awkward that it's cute and the fact that he's the one who wanted to stay is really seeking discomfort...but the longer he stayed, spending time getting to know the wrestlers, building a connection with them, the smallest thing like wanting to sit next to his new friend.... I'd say he also brought some kind of comfort to them and vice versa. Nice one Staffan!

His tachiai (the initial charge rikishi do during a match) is always something to behold, the man is like a truck. Like you guys said, people REALLY underestimate just how athletic these guys are. Hopefully some of the people watching this will get a bit of interest in Grand Sumo. :) Thanks for this lovely piece!
