  • Nissan does a lot well with the Pathfinder. But it faces stiff competition, and the competition does even more well.

    We must have been looking at specs for another vehicle when we were considering the tow rating. 3500 to 6000 lbs depending on trim and drivetrain. And it does have wireless CarPlay, just not Android Auto.

      We got a 2023 Pathfinder last week. The wireless android and Apple both work. Had to hook up my android the 1st time. After that wire wasn't needed.

    I bought one these to tow my track car. I am very impressed with it. It tows 6000lbs with the factory towing package. Considering that is the major differentiator between this vehicle and it's competitors, that's quite the miss on your part. It has a things like sway control built into that tow mode. The shifting logic you talk about only kicks in on gradients not on flat highways. I believe the cable in the glove compartment is for connecting a brake controller to the factory harness.

      I've read complaints online about the rear automatic braking while towing, that you have to dig through menus to turn off despite being connected to a trailer, and then have to do this every time it's restarted. Has this been your experience? Seems it should know whether in tow mode or 7 pin to disable rear sensors. Thanks

    I have had my 2024 Pathfinder Platinum 4WD for about 30 days now having driven about 1,000 miles and have towed my SXS a few times similar to you guys in this video. Overall, my family and friends have been very pleased with all aspects of city, highway/road trip and towing driving. Lots of features for the money, great ride quality, good turning radius and comfortable for both first row and second row passengers. Some nit picky aspects of towing experience that could be better include: 1. The need to turn off Emergency Rear Braking via settings each time vehicle is turned off/on otherwise it slams the brakes every few feet when in reverse. Ideally, it should automatically turn that setting off if in Tow Mode or if have 7 pin harness plugged in. 2. Cruise Control can be very aggressive at trying to maintain speeds when in steep hilly terrain, it slams throttle vs. gradual return to speed. 3. Wish the gas tank was a bit larger (maybe 10 gallons more) for better range when towing. Otherwise actually quite impressed with gas mileage and range when not towing. I would definitely recommend this vehicle and it works quite well for towing within the 6,000 lb limit of the Platinum 4WD. This is our 5th Nissan vehicle in the family and we have had good luck with reliability on all of them. We tend to keep them 7+ years and think our Nissan sedans, SUVs and trucks have been a good value and fit for our family needs.

      The need to disable rear auto braking every time is the sole reason I'm considering spending a little more on the pilot, which disables rear sensors whenever in tow mode. It also has wireless android auto. My hope would be a software update? I have owned 3 pathfinders and was excited for this new model but these oversights while nit picky, really lesson the experience of a "premium" vehicle

    I do feel for both Nissan and Infiniti and the tough position they’re in right now. They’ve got to make lemonade with the lemons they have and while a lot of their offerings are perfectly competent, competition’s stiff nowadays and a par-for-the-segment entry won’t necessarily cut it, especially in higher end trim levels. I agree that the lower to mid-level trims are probably the optimal value zone

    That cable harness you pulled out of the glove box is for hooking up a brake controller that you would need if your trailer has brakes. There is only one side with the connector on it that fits into the Pathfinder connection under the left side of the dashboard. The other side you will have to add a connector to match the brake controller you add. Best thing to do is buy a premanufactured harness to easily plugs into the Pathfinder and into the braker controller. I have towed a 5,800 pound travel trailer with my 2023 SL with the premium package. Got 12.5 mpg.

    • @blackstar240
      @blackstar240 Před 4 měsíci

      Have you found any way around needing to go into menus and disable rear auto braking every time? Seems ridiculous it wouldn't automatically when in tow mode or attached to a trailer. I have a '13 Platinum and looking to upgrade but this one oversight has me considering the Pilot

    • @ClassicFIHD
      @ClassicFIHD Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@blackstar240 No, I have not found a way around shutting it off. I like the features of the Pathfinder and I have already towed at least 5,800 pounds with it.

    The 2024 Pathfinder Platinum is a nice car and a great package. The competitors rated higher, you have to pay much more for a comparable trim or conversely get less for the price, and sometimes that difference is just not worth it.

    I agree with the third row being manual is wayyy better than some electric bs! As for the power I think it would have been awesome if Nissan added a model with a V6 Turbo or Supercharger. It honestly feels like it needs some power. As for MPG, it's nice but I wish Nissan had used a 24gal fuel tank instead. Another thing I don't like is the infotainment screen, it looks cheap and has a huge border around it. I personally don't care for Apple Carplay/Android Auto as I don't use it, I use the Bluetooth. One thing I wish Nissan had done with this new model was added that screen in the trunk that open up so you don't have to open the whole trunk like BMW X5 does. Also, I am VERY glad Nissan did away with the CVT. Lastly, I'm not a fan of the front end, but I LOVE the side profile and the rear end! This is not to say this is a bad SUV, on the contrary, it's a GREAT SUV! The engine is proven and reliable, it's a great bang for your buck. I personally would have liked a tow brake and some sort of tow camera for backing up. These things I mentioned are just improvements they need.

    There should be a class action lawsuit for the rear brakes wearing out at 15K miles in normal driving conditions. Stay away from the vehicle. Passenger seat is so low the passenger can't see anything. I hate the fact that it can't recognize a bike rack or trailer and slams on the brakes when backing. Have to disable the rear emergency braking every time you start the vehicle. Nissan really didn't think through it's engineering on this one. Did I mention I have had to pull over a couple of time to reboot the vehicle due to every idiot light coming on and erroring out!!! Took pictures and show my Nissan dealership maintenance and they replaced my battery thinking it would resolve the issues. NOPE! It still does it especially up in the mountain passes. Once again stay away for the POS.
