Yay! This is the best video on this I've found. Easiest and fastest method. Thank you for posting! And thanks for not blowing it with bad narrating and terrible music :) You rock!
Yay! This is great! I am currently tearing up eighteen year old green shaggy carpet out of my house. I want to replace it with a cheap alternative than having to put wood or some linoleum down I just won't be happy with. I also want to do something that I created myself. At the end of the day this idea seems to make the most sense. I love your video! I have read a great deal about the process, but it helps to see someone in action. :)
Just ignore the naysayers, my dear. My guess is they are just jealous they didn't think of the method, or they work for a big corporation that sells wooden planks as they mentioned, and may feel their job may be at risk if this "catches on" by people that like to try new ideas or doesn't have a q zillion bucks to buy the "ready made" crap that is usually way over priced! My daughter told me yesterday about your method and I was thrilled about it. I am on a fixed income and my floors need some upgrading and I intend to use your method. Keep up the good work. There will ways be colossal Jerks out there... Just ignore them!
Sheila Reeder Thank you for your reply! I appreciate the positive feedback. This idea is for those who want an alternative to hardwood floors, never was intended as a replacement or a "better method" than anything else! :)
I am not trying to claim I am the "first user or idea creator of this" ..... just demonstrating how I did my floors since I had so many friends asking me about how I did this.
Im doin my floor now- I found out if u just paint the glue on paper it wrinkles- if you crumple paper n put it bucket- wring it out gently- smooth it out on the floor like in this video u won't get Wrinkles. The down side is glue all over ur hands- but its just elmers comes off in soap n water- n u use a lot more glue- the glue us sold at craft stores office supply stores and online- cheapest was Walmart.com 17 bucks a gallon- im using a 50 50 glue water mix
I have utilized this technique on several rental properties over the years. I totally agree with info in this video re a wood based floor. With concrete floors I always utilized polycrylic in lieu of white glue that dries clear. I have added a bit of stain or even white-washed paper bag floors. I will be doing this technique in my bathroom and kitchen in my current studio. I may also do an accent wall in my basement bathroom. Added texture is always a plus for me.
I would love to see photos of some of your finished projects! The white wash floors sound amazing!! Thanks for sharing your comment. You can also post your images on my blog page to share with everyone. thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com/
What ive done so far looks good- it dried nice and im gonna finish 2mr w last section n water based stain- it probly work on any surface as long as its clean even n no sharp spots 2 poke thru paper- if u have uneven surface try to use putty to fix it- any sharp surface has to be fixed or removed(nails tacks staples cracked wood gaps in wood etc..)
Nichole Allen, I would think it would work over any wood floor. However, if an existing wood floor has a lot of cracks or lines from the planks....those would show when the paper is wet & then dries. That is why I filled the cracks in the plywood ..... all blemishes will show.
go to a menards lowes home depot and ask a feww questions they will give you advice on what to us they have multitude of different products to use from spackling to caulk to whatever
Nice! I need to so mine over a old commercial tile flooring with chips and cracks..can it be done without a subfloor? if so you have any suggestions? thanks
10 years and you still have interest. I was wondering how long it lasted, and the other videos I’ve watched showed a lot of the floors that were done in this method seemed wrinkled, yours looks fantastic. Did yours wrinkle as it was drying?
I no longer live in this house, however they looked fantastic the entire time we were there and we also had 2 dogs. I even did this on my stairs! Helped up great and I did not have any wrinkles when it dried. I actually really loved the look and feel of the floors and would do again.
Can you list what you are using on the floor. I mean is it elmers glue on the wood ? Is it polyuréthane in the bucket? Is it epoxy? I love the way it looks and this week i am going to do my floors.. Hopefully you can get this so i get an answer.
I have heard of this being done on concrete, however I have not done it myself so I can't recommend either way. Yes, I did do an oil based stain after laying and dried. I have several other videos on each step. These are on my blog, unfortunately CZcams breaks them up and won't allow me it post the link to the blog where all the instructions are at.
is ee in the video it's being done on plywood or a type of wood anyways. i have concrete to work with... would same effect happen. and elmers glue? seems like it will take alot of glue, stores sell it in bulk like that?
Neil, I have only used water based. Not sure if it would matter however I know the smell I much stronger with an oil based and the water based dries very quickly.
I'm not sure if a roller is necessary or would work, never tried. Yes, I did get bubbles once with mine and that is why I adjusted my water to glue mix. Then I never had problems again.
My floor that I want to cover is that chipboard subfloor. It's deteriorating / coming apart where the paint has worn off, which is most of it. What is the best approach to level it then lay the paper flooring down? Thanks for your thoughts!
Hmm, not really sure. If it is just chipped in small areas you could patch would wood filler and sand. However, if it has lots of areas that are in bad shape, you may want to lay all new subflooring before applying.
I honestly don't think it would. A ceramic floor would have grooves where the grout lines are and I don't think it would adhere effectively to the ceramic surface.
Hey folks I started this project and ran out of paper. When back to Home Depot and Lowe's to buy some more paper only to find out the quality of the paper has changed a lot. Now as soon as you wet the paper it starts falling apart. I am looking for someone that may have some sitting around that you do not need.
I’m sure you could but if they have a print on them (from a store) that would show through. Also, keep in mind that different bags may not match color wise. The lunch bags I think would be way to thin and would not recommend using.
I actually did this and I love the final results. I however had several challenges, which required me to repaper 3 different times. It was definitely a learning experience and I sure wish I had known some of the things before I started. :) I actually wrote a blog about my experience in case anyone else is thinking about doing this. I learned a few good lessons. apurposefulpath.blogspot.com/2014/03/my-first-paper-bag-floor-test-and-learn.html Enjoy!
I'm just thinking... all that extra work plus the energy to actually fabricate the paper bags from the trees - and the end result is exactly a wooden plate that you can buy in the woodshop or any other store but thinner and probably worse. Yes, this is "seamless" and made by hand, but as cool as it looks, the more efficient way to spent all those resources is to use the wooden floor of any type, rather than try to secretly sneak the trees to the floor in the incarnation of paper bags ;) No?
ever seen how much waste is generated when installing even a plywood floor? why add an extra layer if your sub floor is good? maybe "think" a little more. The amount of tree on one of these floors is a 10th of even a 1/4 inch ply floor. This is conservation at its best. Great Idea and it is beautiful.
bleach181 I think the most stupid thing ever is someone wasting their time watching this video AND then commenting on it. This is for people, like me, who enjoy DIY projects. So sorry if it is not of interest to you but I really think it is unnecessary for you to criticize my video that I posted for myself and friends of mine to view so they could see how I created my floor. Must be a sad life to have nothing better to do than throw out hate to people you don't even know!!
Yes, plywood is real wood....however staining plywood wasn't the look or feel that I wanted for my floor. Plywood is very rough and also if you watched all the videos, has A LOT of blemishes that would show through even when stained. But, if that is the look you want for your project, feel free to do that. Again, these videos are only showing how I did my floors in my home. I am in no way telling anyone that is THE way to do anything.

What an ingenious way to cover the floor. Inexpensive but effective and rather pleasing to look at. Good job. Love the pink fuzzy work boots.
MrToolmaker23 LOL. Thank you! Fuzzy crocs work wonders because they don't leave any prints. :)

I liked the idea cause my floors need help badly and living on a fixed income your idea gave me hope...Thanks
Kazuza9, I used a wood filler between cracks and over any bad blemishes then lightly sand.

Are you covering particle broad because that's the answer I need, it's what I have. Did you have to sand the floor first?
Nichole Allen, I would think it would work over any wood floor. However, if an existing wood floor has a lot of cracks or lines from the planks....those would show when the paper is wet & then dries. That is why I filled the cracks in the plywood ..... all blemishes will show.
WHAT DO YOU FILL PLYWOOD FLOORING WITH? SOMEONE MENTIONED TO ME A PRODUCT THAT YOU CAN ROLL OUT??? XO
mary lawson wood filler

YOU HAVE GREAT MUSIC PLAYING IN THE BACKROUND.
Hello, what type of glue did you use? is this standard PVA?
I wonder how long this holds up. It looks interesting.
10 years and you still have interest. I was wondering how long it lasted, and the other videos I’ve watched showed a lot of the floors that were done in this method seemed wrinkled, yours looks fantastic. Did yours wrinkle as it was drying?

great job you did on the floor , my floor has cracks between the plywood and some bumps , how did you fill the cracks on your floor? thx
I also have the same issue with gaps between the boards. Do I need to fill this gaps or is the glue/polyurethane strong enough to span the gaps? TIA
Question what are you dipping the paper in? and brushing it with.
Can you list what you are using on the floor. I mean is it elmers glue on the wood ? Is it polyuréthane in the bucket? Is it epoxy? I love the way it looks and this week i am going to do my floors.. Hopefully you can get this so i get an answer.

Do you have to pull up the existing floor if it's wood? Can you paper over?
Yes, you could use a shark. I use my damp swiffer on mine the most.
Just wondering, did the paper bubble and wrinkle some while drying and then flatten back out?
is ee in the video it's being done on plywood or a type of wood anyways. i have concrete to work with... would same effect happen. and elmers glue? seems like it will take alot of glue, stores sell it in bulk like that?

What weight paper did you use? I'm going to order a roll of kraft paper and was thinking 50#.
We are doing this in our bathroom, laundry room & entry way floor... what kind of glue did you use!? What does the glue mixture consist of?
Do you know if this will work on a vinyl floor?
So would a Shark steam mop work well on this floor?? And how hard is it to find the Varathane you used? Thanks..
1994abbygirl I use a steam shark on my floors .... but primarily just a damp rag on my old fashioned swiffer. I bought my poly at Lowes.
My floor that I want to cover is that chipboard subfloor. It's deteriorating / coming apart where the paint has worn off, which is most of it. What is the best approach to level it then lay the paper flooring down? Thanks for your thoughts!

how strong is it when its dry
Instead of a brush to smooth the newly-laid out pieces, can I use a roller? Or is that simply unnecessary?
brush helps get rid of the air [ockets i think a water soaked or glue soaked squeeji would work also??
How do I fix my plywood floors after the glue dried with chalky spots and lots of wrinkles in it?
THANKS
Would this work in a ceramic tile floor?
I honestly don't think it would. A ceramic floor would have grooves where the grout lines are and I don't think it would adhere effectively to the ceramic surface.
Can you paint the bag a different color?
get a floor stain of what ever color you like?????
Are you dipping it in the half water and half glue in the red bucket❓
Susan Spencer yes. If you go to the link in the information you will connect to my blog with all the directions.
Susan Spencer thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com/2013/02/
Good job
Thanks :)

You could try Hobby Lobby. They also carry this and you can usually use a 40% off coupon too.
Do you think you could use paper bags instead of craft paper?
I’m sure you could but if they have a print on them (from a store) that would show through. Also, keep in mind that different bags may not match color wise. The lunch bags I think would be way to thin and would not recommend using.
I bought my water based poly from lowes.
Good share. Thank you.

can you do this on a coffee table?
Beth/Betty Pickle-Rice yes
Please forgive the spelling- its the autocorrect-
what is the ratio of glue to water
Rev. Loraleigh Peterson 50/50
Love game
I agree with Sheila Reeder, and I sure as HELL ain't going to buy some Chinese made CRAP! I would prefer good old American ingenuity.

Hi, love watching your channel, I'm big on DIY, currently I'm building a tiny house. You guys should come check us out!

what ever trips your trigger easy lazy way out I guess what you are looking for. do it your way thats what its all about, created by your own hands.
I don't get it. Why not just stain the sub floor then urethane over that. The sub floor is real wood. GAD!

What's the point of this?
I’ll comment.
A+ for application demonstration.
E for failing to instruct your audience for how it’s done, products used, mixture ratio, etc.
