Brown Paper Bag Floor - Staining floor
10 years and you still have interest. I was wondering how long it lasted, and the other videos I’ve watched showed a lot of the floors that were done in this method seemed wrinkled, yours looks fantastic. Did yours wrinkle as it was drying?
I no longer live in this house, however they looked fantastic the entire time we were there and we also had 2 dogs. I even did this on my stairs! Helped up great and I did not have any wrinkles when it dried. I actually really loved the look and feel of the floors and would do again.

Funny joke
Do you think you could use paper bags instead of craft paper?
I’m sure you could but if they have a print on them (from a store) that would show through. Also, keep in mind that different bags may not match color wise. The lunch bags I think would be way to thin and would not recommend using.
Good job
Thanks :)
My floor that I want to cover is that chipboard subfloor. It's deteriorating / coming apart where the paint has worn off, which is most of it. What is the best approach to level it then lay the paper flooring down? Thanks for your thoughts!
Hmm, not really sure. If it is just chipped in small areas you could patch would wood filler and sand. However, if it has lots of areas that are in bad shape, you may want to lay all new subflooring before applying.
Would this work in a ceramic tile floor?
I honestly don't think it would. A ceramic floor would have grooves where the grout lines are and I don't think it would adhere effectively to the ceramic surface.
I have utilized this technique on several rental properties over the years. I totally agree with info in this video re a wood based floor. With concrete floors I always utilized polycrylic in lieu of white glue that dries clear. I have added a bit of stain or even white-washed paper bag floors. I will be doing this technique in my bathroom and kitchen in my current studio. I may also do an accent wall in my basement bathroom. Added texture is always a plus for me.
Thanks for sharing!
I would love to see photos of some of your finished projects! The white wash floors sound amazing!! Thanks for sharing your comment. You can also post your images on my blog page to share with everyone. thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com/
Wow no ripples! Thanks
You bet!
Are you dipping it in the half water and half glue in the red bucket❓
Susan Spencer yes. If you go to the link in the information you will connect to my blog with all the directions.

I’ll comment. A+ for application demonstration. E for failing to instruct your audience for how it’s done, products used, mixture ratio, etc.
Mark Wyn if you click the link to the blog you would have seen the full instructions as well as ratios. I did not do this video as an independent video, but as a series of videos for my friends who had asked how I did my floors. I did so by creating a blog. Please read my full description before making a negative comment.

I agree with Sheila Reeder, and I sure as HELL ain't going to buy some Chinese made CRAP! I would prefer good old American ingenuity.
How many coats of poly did you use? Also, do you think it's possible to cover an ugly pop corn ceiling with this technique?
On the floors I believe I did about 8 coats. You can check out my blog for all the instructions. thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com I don’t think you could do this on a popcorn ceiling without scraping the ceiling first. But, I’m not certain as I have never tried that. 😉
THIS IS THE BEST DEMONSTRATION YET
Thank you. You can see the full instructions on my blog at thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com
Hey folks I started this project and ran out of paper. When back to Home Depot and Lowe's to buy some more paper only to find out the quality of the paper has changed a lot. Now as soon as you wet the paper it starts falling apart. I am looking for someone that may have some sitting around that you do not need.
You could try Hobby Lobby. They also carry this and you can usually use a 40% off coupon too.
What's the point of this?
Are you covering particle broad because that's the answer I need, it's what I have. Did you have to sand the floor first?
Hi, love watching your channel, I'm big on DIY, currently I'm building a tiny house. You guys should come check us out!
How long did it take for stained floor to dry since it was an Oil based stain? It's been 3 days since I've stained mine & still not sure if it's ready for traffic, also used oil based stain.
I let mine dry overnight and then applied the Poly the next day. The poly dries quickly and then seals the stain so you don't have to worry about it being "ready" for traffic. I would never do only stain on the floors without the poly added as a top coat. The poly also acts as a protective barrier for wear and tear. :)
Did it ever dry for you Angelina? I did mine three days ago and am wondering it it will ever not be tacky to the touch so that I can add Poly. I'm worrying about it. My whole floor could be ruined if I can never add Poly and I've spent so many hours working on it.
put some gloves on
Why? I'm working with Elmer's glue and water. It's not toxic to my hands. But thank you for your concern.
@@Kcstrough u corney as hell lady
@@jpframpt971 thank you ?? 🤨
Can you list what you are using on the floor. I mean is it elmers glue on the wood ? Is it polyuréthane in the bucket? Is it epoxy? I love the way it looks and this week i am going to do my floors.. Hopefully you can get this so i get an answer.
Very rude comments on this video. Please know that there are people like myself who appreciate your videos.
Thank you, I appreciate your comment. I don't understand why some people take the time to comment if they don't like something.....just move on.
what kind of applicator are you using?
This is the same applicator I purchased at Home Depot. It is lambs wool. Just be sure that you have the proper materials to clean it afterwards.
Yay! This is great! I am currently tearing up eighteen year old green shaggy carpet out of my house. I want to replace it with a cheap alternative than having to put wood or some linoleum down I just won't be happy with. I also want to do something that I created myself. At the end of the day this idea seems to make the most sense. I love your video! I have read a great deal about the process, but it helps to see someone in action. :)
can you do this on a coffee table?
Beth/Betty Pickle-Rice yes
Love game
Question what are you dipping the paper in? and brushing it with.
Can you paint the bag a different color?
get a floor stain of what ever color you like?????
How do I fix my plywood floors after the glue dried with chalky spots and lots of wrinkles in it?
Do you know if this will work on a vinyl floor?
I wonder how long this holds up. It looks interesting.
what is the ratio of glue to water
Rev. Loraleigh Peterson 50/50
Hello, what type of glue did you use? is this standard PVA?
I liked the idea cause my floors need help badly and living on a fixed income your idea gave me hope...Thanks
Just ignore the naysayers, my dear. My guess is they are just jealous they didn't think of the method, or they work for a big corporation that sells wooden planks as they mentioned, and may feel their job may be at risk if this "catches on" by people that like to try new ideas or doesn't have a q zillion bucks to buy the "ready made" crap that is usually way over priced! My daughter told me yesterday about your method and I was thrilled about it. I am on a fixed income and my floors need some upgrading and I intend to use your method. Keep up the good work. There will ways be colossal Jerks out there... Just ignore them!
Sheila Reeder Thank you for your reply! I appreciate the positive feedback. This idea is for those who want an alternative to hardwood floors, never was intended as a replacement or a "better method" than anything else! :)
I am not trying to claim I am the "first user or idea creator of this" ..... just demonstrating how I did my floors since I had so many friends asking me about how I did this.
Nichole Allen, I would think it would work over any wood floor. However, if an existing wood floor has a lot of cracks or lines from the planks....those would show when the paper is wet & then dries. That is why I filled the cracks in the plywood ..... all blemishes will show.
WHAT DO YOU FILL PLYWOOD FLOORING WITH? SOMEONE MENTIONED TO ME A PRODUCT THAT YOU CAN ROLL OUT??? XO
mary lawson wood filler
go to a menards lowes home depot and ask a feww questions they will give you advice on what to us they have multitude of different products to use from spackling to caulk to whatever
Do you have to pull up the existing floor if it's wood? Can you paper over?
I don't get it. Why not just stain the sub floor then urethane over that. The sub floor is real wood. GAD!
Yes, plywood is real wood....however staining plywood wasn't the look or feel that I wanted for my floor. Plywood is very rough and also if you watched all the videos, has A LOT of blemishes that would show through even when stained. But, if that is the look you want for your project, feel free to do that. Again, these videos are only showing how I did my floors in my home. I am in no way telling anyone that is THE way to do anything.
What is it you are using to apply the stain...is that a dust mop like broom ???
Nice! I need to so mine over a old commercial tile flooring with chips and cracks..can it be done without a subfloor? if so you have any suggestions? thanks
What weight paper did you use? I'm going to order a roll of kraft paper and was thinking 50#.
how strong is it when its dry
What an ingenious way to cover the floor. Inexpensive but effective and rather pleasing to look at. Good job. Love the pink fuzzy work boots.
MrToolmaker23 LOL. Thank you! Fuzzy crocs work wonders because they don't leave any prints. :)
You just wasted my darn time! You must have meant destroying flooring. I am very confused.
This video is a series of videos that I created for my blog: thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com/ I only created them for my blog to explain the entire process of how to do the paper bag floor with EACH STEP. This is one step. Sorry if you feel it is a waste of your time. I cannot control how CZcams publishes these videos.
really. please go on.
If you read my blog: thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com/ My blog is where all of the videos are attached. I hate that CZcams publishes each of them seperate, however, I have no control over that.
Yay! This is the best video on this I've found. Easiest and fastest method. Thank you for posting! And thanks for not blowing it with bad narrating and terrible music :) You rock!
You are welcome. You can see all the steps on my blog thepinktoolbox.wordpress.com
I actually did this and I love the final results. I however had several challenges, which required me to repaper 3 different times. It was definitely a learning experience and I sure wish I had known some of the things before I started. :) I actually wrote a blog about my experience in case anyone else is thinking about doing this. I learned a few good lessons. apurposefulpath.blogspot.com/2014/03/my-first-paper-bag-floor-test-and-learn.html Enjoy!
Thank you. Very helpful blog!
Kazuza9, I used a wood filler between cracks and over any bad blemishes then lightly sand.
great job you did on the floor , my floor has cracks between the plywood and some bumps , how did you fill the cracks on your floor? thx
I also have the same issue with gaps between the boards. Do I need to fill this gaps or is the glue/polyurethane strong enough to span the gaps? TIA
Neil, I have only used water based. Not sure if it would matter however I know the smell I much stronger with an oil based and the water based dries very quickly.
