Sweet mother of pearl. That is beautiful. You have inspired me to rip up my carpet upstairs.
for those of you wanting to know how he did this, (this video is not instructional), he has another video where it is more of a how to. I am so inspired by this! I am going to do this for the floor of my RV. The nice thing about it is, is that if you botch it up you can try again. Just paint over it and start again. AND if you end up giving up, then just put flooring over it. This sounds like soooo much fun I wish I had a larger floor to do this with!
Oh here we are Marc 7 years later and I am just finding this. Doing it over a concrete floor and can't wait to see it done. Thanks for the video
This is what I want to do. What was your process and what did you use to seal? Is it lasting and would you do it again?
Crazy. I learned how to do this at college on a painting and decorating course, but decorators hardly ever get asked to do wood graining because people simply dont think it's a painter and decorators job. Great job well done though it looks great
I love it!! We have concrete floors and did the same in our small hallway. We loved it, but didnt seal it properly and ruined it when we redid the rest of the hallway. We've since removed the carpet in the living room, poured some self-leveling cement and are getting ready to paint faux wood floors in our entire living room and hallway. I'm so excited!! It's going to look amazing just like yours.
Update. It's going on 3 years now and floor is still holding up very well.
+Marc Doiron What did you use to seal the floor? I love the look and your technique, which I followed to bring back the raw wood look to two beautiful wood beams that run the perimeter of my kitchen. The previous owner had painted them white and I was so happy to find your tutorial. They turned out amazing, so thank you :)
+cook6265 I just used a water base sealer. I gave two coats.
Omg!! I'm crazy enough to do this...why I didn't think of it, before. I planned on just painting the floor white...But I didn't want a plain floor! Thanks for this...x (mines a concrete floor. )
I’m assuming you can’t use bleach to clean the floors? What do you use to clean it ? Won’t it strip the paint ?
very good, thanks for video
what kind of floor is it? what material is it from?
WOW 😳... definitely going to try doing faux wood floor planks on my garage floor. Amazing work.
That is amazing!!! This video inspired me to do my daughter's wall in her room to make it look more rustic. I did a little lighter colors... and it turned out awesome! Thank you for posting this!
Thank you Marc for you time and expertise on your channel. Really helpful👍
It is because of you, this video and your tutorial video that I was able to transform my SIL's staircase on my first attempt!! I am forever thankful!!
Wow, beautiful, you're also an artist! Thanks for sharing!!! 👍🏻
True work of an artist. Well done. Absolutely gorgeous!
YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!! Great job! Looks beautiful!
It's wild that the plywood's own grain and knots give the final result an added authenticity of texture.
omg you are amazing, that floor is stunning!
I absolutely LOVE it!! Thank you for uploading the directions :)

Wow are you talented!!!

Awesome technique! can't wait to try it for my living room! =)
Technique was done 3 years ago and so far so good.
It took me about 8hrs. It was done in one day.
Because you didn't have to work around pets and children! 🤣
I am planning on doing this but I doubt I could get family and dogs out of the house for 8 hrs. Definitely need to take this in sections! 🤔
Wow beautiful
Very nice!
Very cool! Maybe I'll get brave and attempt my front porch!!!

Awesome job. Would love to know how u did that
Wow this looks awesome. Come do mine next!!
omg this is Genius !!
Outstanding. What method did you use to keep your long tape lines straight?
Cool!!
Wow that looks amazing! What kind of tool did you use to do the painting???
I'd feel so bad to step on such beautiful artwork.
wow is all i can say its breath taking
+Billie Lankford "Breath taking"? Really? LOL. It was a lot of work and it LOOKS like a faux finish.
+sandra johnson Sandra, you've really come across like a bitch on this thread.
+lea perrins what do you expect from someone who has a dog pic as their profile? Of course she's going to fulfill the role of being a massive bitch.
OMG! That is awesome!!!! =}
Nice background music 👍🏻
REally nice and artistic... you must have had a sore back after that! How do you clean them? Did you put on some finish? Like a polyurethane ?
Amazing. I would love more detail on how this was done. I love the time lapse but would like more information on prep, product used and technique. It's amazing what you did to ordinary plywood. Did you create the wood grain effect or was the grain already in the wood?
Hello Marc, I so very much enjoyed watching this video, because I need to cover many plywood floor inexpensively in my daughters home. I know you mentioned you put primer down first then the yellow paint that is on your walls. I am wondering if you used paint or stain in the brown top coat, and did you seal it with any kind of polyurethane afterwards?
Any help you could give me would be so gratefully appreciated. You are a great artist! Wow
would b e nice to know....yes.....uhm...........
Awwwww-yeah he... Awesome!
Awesome sauce
I don't understand how you did that but it's beautiful.
you are very artistic
Yes I put a sealer afterwards.
dang! woooow
This is really impressive. What paints/materials did you use?
Looks good, but what tools did u use and technique??
Marc, Great Job. What type of tape did you use seems like it is porous and the paint went right through it. Interested in how you got the darker lines that look like the wood edges.
Looks fabulous but I too need step by step details on products and processes.
This is great. But what type of paint are you using???
wow u are good..... very cool looking can we see it now 2015
Thank you
Looks Awesome. I would like to try this on concrete in my garage. Any ideas/pointers on the type of paint I could use?
you would have to add all the graining and knots since concrete doesn't have them to begin with like the plywood floor does.
Thanks. I used 3 brushes and wall paints diluted with water.
Marc Doiron You are an artist, I thought this may have been stain with polyurethane in the poly which I bought... gotta try what I have. This is awesome..
This looks amazing. I am doing this on my floors now and was wondering what brand of varnish you used? Thanks.
Sorry I don’t remember what I used but it was waterbase.
I need fillling in I'm doing same thing next week
That is AMAZING!!!! Can you do that on stairs also??
Yes you could do it on stairs
That's a great and simple way to dress up a plywood subfloor- either for long term or until you can afford a different floor cover. The biggest challenge to me would be getting the tape spaced evenly and straight. You just whooped it down. Did you use any kind of sealant after it was done?
+llazyiest He didn't just "whoop" it down. Obviously this video was sped up for time. I am a professional faux finisher and scenic painter and I can tell you that it is very difficult to lay tape down straight. I'm sure the guy used a sealant but it doesn't matter. No sealant is going to prevent scratches on a floor especially in a high traffic area. His floor will have to be touched up a lot and not only that, the floor looks like a faux finish. I guess it would be okay if he covered up most of it with an area rug.
+sandra johnson Really? You mean he didn't just do it at 200 mph like it looks like here? You mean it's a time-lapse like he said at the begining of the video and in the title? I'm so glad you pointed that out to me. Even in time lapse - unless it's edited out- there isn't much adjusting of the tape so yeah- he just whooped it down. He could put something over it to preserve it- clear varnish or whatever. He said it is the floor of his studio so perhaps he wanted something that it didn't matter if paint splattered on it. Regardless, it looks very nice and was done inexpensively. He also did a fine job on his faux wood beams in his house, shown in his website.
+sandra johnson seriously? give credit where credit is due. his floor looks awesome.. it was hand painted WITHOUT the use of a wood grain tool!
Yeah Lea Perrins, you are so right and can bank on the fact that there's always some misery out there ready to shit all over something, SJ needs to get a life instead of sucking the joy out of it. I think he did a fantastic job.
sandra johnson if this was covered yearly with a coat of polyurethane it will hold up.. many people with brown bag floors do that and hold up for many years.
What tool did you use to get Grain finish and how did you do the lines to make it look like separate boards tia
I wasn't able to figure out how you got the seam lines to be so dark because it didn't look like you did anything special to create them. Any tips on creating those? Thank you.
WHY ARE YOU NOT ON HGTV??????...lol..this is beyond amazing
Hi. Marc, your base colour kind like lvory. what you did just spread on the floor after cleaning?
VnAoPage base color is a mustard yellow. Once finished I put two coats of water base sealer.
Looks great! Greetings from Russia! What material do you use to save this pattern? Or do you just restore it periodically?
Number one: how long did this take; what did you use to measure the lines; what color is the brown paint? Can this be done on concrete?
