  • James Rodriguez has just joined Al-Rayyan in Qatar at just 30 years old. While this huge contract will be good for him financially, we can’t help thinking that it’s a waste when you look at the career and talent of James Rodriguez… James Rodriguez playing at the highest level seems to have come to an end. But what the hell happened to James Rodriguez?!

But the way ozil james mata oscar and coutinho fell off later in their career makes me think there just isnt room for this kind of player anymore. Pace of the game has increased, and managers opt for players with more workrate/speed to make up for it i guess. David silva adaped to become an cm, and a guy like kdb is so versatile and hard working that he can play as a false 9, or creative mid in a 3 who tracks back and presses.

He needed one team and one coach to start him for at least the first 5 years of his career. All the greats had some stability early in their careers. James had been playing for some time when he exploded at World Cup with a golden boot performance. He'd played in Argentina, Portugal and Monaco. Yet he was treated like someone right out of the Barcelona youth academy. I don't think he responded well to being disrespected after putting in the time to work his way up to RM. But watching his play making in Al-Rayyan in 2022 so far and it's pretty clear he seems very reinvigorated. Barcelona would be wise to pick him up cheap. What do they have to lose at this point. Or Juventus with his buddy Cuad.

He should have found a way to stay in the Bundesliga or Premier leagues though it would have been great to see him with a Seria A team like Atalanta, Napoli or Lazio even if for a pay cut for a guaranteed 1st squad position. Though it was good to see him in Everton & Munich he had other options to stay relevant instead of going to Qatar or wherever. The temptation for the big checks is going to lose him relevance and likely to the MLS as soon as he’s tapped out.
