Those you lost Those who took everything from you And the one who is there to help you move past all the guilt and hatred, all the trauma. To look to the future, you must first face your past. To heal and evolve, you must confront and work through your past traumas.
I don’t think it was possible for him to ever join the light, maybe it would have been possible for him to walk a line between dark and light but his life was terrible and filled with tragedy like Anakin/Vader, the only difference was Anakin still had his children to bring him back while Maul had no family left.
I think he thought that there was no redemption for someone like him. Basically, he kept digging for himself a bigger grave. It's sad really, he never knew anything but the dark side.
And in a weird way I kinda respect that. Even though he wasn’t given a choice in how he was raised, he did his best to make the most of what ended up being a pretty tragic life, particularly once the Clone Wars ended, and did die himself. I pitied him in Rebels. He had no one in his life to teach him how to properly make friends and endear people to him. Kr even how to tell people he saw their potential. I truly believe he saw Ezrah’s potential, maybe even saw himself in him, and wanted to befriend him/gain his trust. At least initially. But he took the worst approach I could’ve thought of by blinding Kanin and trying to force him to the dark side.
I mean Maul was pickled and marinated in hate, rage and evil since he was a small boy by Sidious. Hatred blinded him and the thirst for revenge kept his heart hardened. After knowing his backstory, it’s hard not to feel some empathy for Maul.
He's a tragic antagonist. No he is not justified in his evil, but even the strongest will could be broken by such horrific events. He was offered to walk a different path, not even Jedi, just not the path of hatred.

He killed him in a battle of a very major war, they were soldiers on opposing sides. While Maul may have been "the bad guy" from our perspective, he didn't kill Qui Gon in cold blood any more than Obi-Wan killed him in cold blood mere minutes later (yes I know Maul survived, but Obi-Wan didn't know this at the time). I've always thought the idea of Maul surviving his last fight with Obi-wan and living together in hiding, then both training Luke would be a very interesting idea. The idea of Maul choosing to accept the light here would also have been interesting. If Star Wars does a What If series, I hope that's on there.
Dude, talk about bringing balance to the Force...eventhough GL Canon states the Darkside is imbalance...Still a cool thought of both of them training Luke...man....
@@aaronsmall1394 I agree, and this is something that The Clone Wars reinforces with the Gods of Mortis are. The Father states that if either of his children were to escape, the dark _or_ the light, they would bring imbalance to the Galaxy and ultimately the destruction of everything.
@@aaronsmall1394 That's a common misunderstanding. Balance in the Star Wars universe doesn't mean equal amounts in number, but more like harmony. The Force is in harmony (balance) with the Light Side, while the Dark Side is a corruption of the Force that causes it pain, a cancer. Palpatine describes the Sith use of Force Lightning as dominating the Force, subduing it to your will, as opposed to tapping into it naturally as with light side abilities.
Maul really is one of Star Wars most tragic characters. So many chances to change the fate of himself and even the wider galaxy only to be the victim of his pride and rage steering him away from those chances.
Maul had to at least have been like, “Was that actually the Ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn?!” Then he just stands there saying to himself after he replayed the moment over in his mind 6000 times, “I’m definitely getting Charles Dickens vibes here. Wait, did I just get Christmas Caroled?” Then he just laughs and shakes his head, “Nah! I’m just losing my mind like I did on Lotho Minor.” And he just walks off saying, “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.”
The reason why Maul could no longer feel the power which had drawn him to Domino's was cause he finished his margherita with extra cheese and garlic. They cut that scene.
I wish someone would explain to me how Qui-Gon can manifest a Force ghost. I distinctly remember him telling Yoda in Clone Wars that he died before completing the training and was unable to project himself, he could only speak.
Given that the castle Maul visited here seemed to have some kind of dark side nexus associated with it, I feel the nexus itself it would've allowed qui-gon to appear as a ghost like he did on Mortis.
It's not difficult to understand. Qui-Gon completed his training post-mortem. Some time after his death, and after speaking with Yoda, he learned how to fully manifest.
Also, Qui-Gon was already pretty close to being one with the force, as well as being possibly the most open to force person we've seen in films. He refused spot on the council because it would interfere with him serving the force. If anyone would be able to finish his training on becoming a force ghost post mortem, it would be Qui-Gon.
Maul is my all time favorite Star Wars characters. Part of me wishes that he would of been brought down a different path in a legends book or something but then again he is who he is and that’s why he is so great

I really like the idea that if Maul did let go of his revenge mission for kenobi, he not only would’ve obviously survived but would’ve likely went on either lead a new age of sith or just been a roaming Sith apprentice with no real mission or goal but constantly obtaining knowledge.
I like to think if maul took qui gon's advice he would still use the dark side, but he would walk a more loose path. He wouldn't do heroic things, but he'd do things a little more in good faith. In Season 7 him wanting to kill Anakin, starting chaos on mandalore to lead him and Kenobi to him, would have prevented palpatines rise to power and the death of many Jedi, even if Anakin survived, palpatine would've be stopped by the council, order 66 wouldn't have happened, and Anakin may have not turned to the dark side so easily. Maul's intentions here very much seemed in good faith, even though his methods were drastic and ultimately would cause death either way, it would be a preferable alternative.
Isn't it arguable that the feeling that drove Maul was his conscience seeking retribution...when Jins spirit showed him the light hê seeked a path of redemption.
Imagine a light side Maul 😲 next to Sidious, Yoda, Vader, and Obi Wan, he was probably one of the most powerful Force users alive during the age of the Empire. He could've been a valuable asset to the rebellion
I wonder if qui-gons power was drawing maul closer. Maybe it was so strong he mistook it for a sith relic. It was the force manifesting as Qui-gon to give maul a chance to leave his suffering behind.
Hey thanks 🙏 It’s actually a chapter out of the book Stories of Jedi and Sith. I think it’s chapter 7.. most of the book is meh.. which is why a lot of people don’t know about it..
I never imagined maul as a character that could be converted but this is probably the 3rd time I've heard it as a possibility.. and beyond that maul was having force visions.. typically only a light side ability.. he rly coulda been a beast
So here's a question for you. Did Maul accept Qui-Gons words because again, Maul ended up no longer sensing the artifact he came to search for? What if for a moment while pondering Qui-gons offer he did accept it and lost the connection with the artifact and it vanished? Sam Witwer, the Voice of Maul from CW onward described Maul's thoughts when he finally did die by Obi-wan/Ben's hands and in that moment Naul had only hope, where did said hope come from?
I don’t believe there was ever a relic to be found. Classic bait and switch from Qui-Gon imo.. concerning Maul’s death.. I think what he felt in his final moments was hope for his revenge, but also relief that it was finally out of his hands.. and that he no longer felt destined to carry that burden.
FYI - The source for this video comes from the book "Stories of Jedi and Sith" (Chapter 7)

It’s actually a chapter out of the book Stories of Jedi and Sith. I think it’s chapter 7.. most of the book is meh.. which is why a lot of people don’t know about it..
@@CasualAdept thanks for the info, i'll give it a look
I like that grievous was there
The planet was called "Domino's"...
Maul really did have the most tragic life in all of Star Wars. At least Anakin had moments of happiness. Maul had nothing but pain and misery.
Qui Gon basically saying, "Dude I'm not saying join the Light side, but stop chasing the shadows."
I never imagined maul as a character that could be converted but this is probably the 3rd time I've heard it as a possibility.. and beyond that maul was having force visions.. typically only a light side ability.. he rly coulda been a beast
Maul is afraid to feel empty, which, either way, he felt empty but at peace for once in his life.
This would be a sick short animated series
Qui Gon Jinn talked to Darth Maul to let them know that there was no hard feelings
Maul refused the will of the dark side. What a warrior he was ..
Welcome to Domino's may I take your order?.....Its the Devil again
"Where did the jedi go?' 'Guess he's Qui-gon"
NEED a Maul Disney + show
So here's a question for you.
