    I've had a MPFL (medial patellofemoral ligament) reconstruction so am no stranger to knee pain aggravated by sim racing. I have a few pointers to add to Dr Muscle's guidance:
    -Be aware and thus cautious of your knee and ankle alignment when attempting to heel-toe.
    -Lose the macho-ego and use a lower strength on your load cell to make sure you are not straining yourself unnecessarily.
    -Try different footwear solutions as just a few millimetre on the sole can make a huge difference anthropometrically
    -Ensure your pedal set does not move when fully pressed and that this extension isn't causing pain.
    -Make sure to pad or cushion sharp edges, like F1 driver leg foam (especially in VR)
    -Take extra care with egress and ingress; have a set up that allows quick, easy and painless 'driver changes'.
    Remember you should be enjoying yourself, not torturing yourself.

    My personal recommendation is to have a proper seat angle if you use an alurig (angling side-brackets arent that expensive) and if you don't need a clutch, place both pedals equally apart from your feet. That did help me personally a lot.
    If you do need a clutch, it becomes a bit more difficult. You may also want to place the clutch in the middle if you only use it for starts.

    This video comes at a fortuitous time since I've taken the last week off of sim racing due to knee pain. I actually had to hobble around for a few days! I never realized that my brake pedal was out of alignment with my knee, so hopefully that helps the problem. I also started exercising again just yesterday, so overall joint strength will probably do me wonders.

    • @vsm1456
      @vsm1456 Před 3 lety

      If your knees hurt so that you even have to hobble for a few days, think of visiting a doctor. It's one thing to have pain due to an accident (if you fell or whatever), it's not the same as having pain due to continuous repetitive load, especially if you plan on keeping doing it.

    • @wizrdlizrd8805
      @wizrdlizrd8805 Před 3 lety +2

      @@vsm1456 it's most likely because I used to do alot of physical work on my knees in construction. That's when my left knee started to give me problems. I'm actually taking an extended break from sim racing to start exercising again. If I strengthen the muscles around the knee, the strain of braking should be supported across the whole leg. Since starting my training program, the knee pain has started to subside and I can walk up and down stairs again with no problem. I'm still going to give it a couple weeks of exercise before I go back to the drivers seat, but if the problem comes back, I'll have to go to the doctor for sure!
