Building a Highly-Detailed Realistic American City in Cities Skylines!

- We're building a Realistic American City in today's episode of Dakota Falls! But we're approaching it a bit differently, by overhauling the existing town of River's Edge, as the placement of the town is a good spot for a city. We upgrade the downtown, adding more mixed-use, commercial and residential buildings - we massively increase the footprint of River's edge by building large suburbs, some of them with pre-WWII historic houses but also a few with modern McMansions and tract housing - best of all, much of this is actually zoned - which is the first time I zone in... Forever! We're also adding a quickly-built industrial area where I go through some simple techniques to get the most out of very little time invested! Enjoy!

Dakota Falls, albeit a cosy/sleepy American-inspired river town, deserves a unique attraction. Something that draws travellers and tourists to the region. Maybe that could be in the form of a state zoo or a picturesque wildlife national park? Would love to see you work on this or similar type of build in the near future. Great vid once again!
Really nice video!I think you should build a national park or something like that (maybe named Benjamin park) . A story would be that Franz Benjamin an American/German preservationist with a high wage saw that many rich people of the island were hunting in that region, thus destroying the ecosystem in that region. So Franz Benjamin asked the mayor of South Dakota (his brother) named Alfred Benjamin to make it illegal for hunting in that region and making it a national park. His brother agreed and Benjamin park was a place with many in danger animals like the grizzly bear, the american bison or the bald eagle... Now Benjamin park is a more touristy area with some nature resorts/hotels and a cable car or maybe a little museum where you can see the history of this park, but you can still see the wild live by walking on the various gravel paths that are widespread found in the region. Another idea is to build a farm or another remote village surrounded by farms and a church in the middle with a market square and other amenities. And my last idea is to build an old but large mansion that was the property of a super rich capitalist named Edson Mary who became so rich due to selling much wood. And again great video!
Would like to see an industrial build NEXT. Since the demand for that is also the highest right now...

I would like to see a different town by the mountain in the corner with lots of cabin houses meandering up and the mountain side!
I really love this series! Whatever you do, don't make too big of a city with tall buildings. I really think you should scatter unique towns throughout the map, all connected by rail. You should make some company towns where there is a large manufacturing facility and surrounding suburbs (very common in American towns) and also some farming areas that surround a very small town. Maybe put in a tourist town at the entrance of a famous national park. So much opportunity in this map for small town America and I am looking forward to it! It's a nice change of pace from the other large cities you build. Thanks again!

With a town this size and having big growth, I could see some big box retail or smaller retail move in soon
Okay, you've hooked me already when I was tricked in the first four seconds into thinking it was a drone shot of an actual US city.. I only got tipped off because of the car.
Absolutely love this. With the big downtown core, the large Craftsman style train station (just found out that's a specific style last week!) and load of sidewalks this almost feels like a romanticized, more European America.. the older America brought into new standards.
Absolutely love this, it scratches an itch I didn't know I had perfectly.

Such a great build series! I will say this one reminds me more of the New England region of the US (Portland Maine or Burlington Vermont) rather than Colorado, but this looks fantastic and I cannot wait for the next progression with this project!

Hello Infra, Love your vids! Also when you say that Dakota Falls is the smallest county in the US, it’s not even close. There’s a place in western Texas where like 20 or 30 people live. I think is Loving County. Don’t ask how I know this 😅

This is stunning. Making me want to start an Autumn build sooner than later.
It definitely makes sense to have a couple apartment buildings and rowhouses in the downtown, residential exclusive, but if you want more population, it would be more realistic to add mod assets "residential block service buildings" inside of the commercial buildings. Most of them have apartments above and realistically people would be living in them.
That brooklyn & queens buildings is a little excessive. The height would make sense for a department store or a bank, but not an apartment building
Hey Infra, awesome video! I noticed the river has some falls. They could be the most epic tourist attraction and the lifeblood of the city. It would be nice if you built a little national park or at least a protected area near the falls with trails, viewing platforms, and a thriving tourist industry. The area could also have a system of boats that get closer to the falls, like at Niagara Falls or maybe even adventure boat rides, Iguazu falls style. A detailed build like this would be refreshing on the channel and something I don't think you've done before. Take care! :)

@Infrastructurist Sure! I can see the falls at 53:54 in the top right. The Dakota Falls! There could even be a nice and interesting backstory about how they were discovered or important for the native peoples and/or how they were turned into a tourist attraction. Just rambling here, you'll see what you do with it. I just love how we can make our imaginations go wild with this game! 😊

I haven’t seen those particular parking lots and entrances your using in that industrial area. I’m going to look for them next time I turn on the game. Also do a lot of work in industrial areas in the chemical transportation industry so I like to add a lot of truck, tanks, totes and isotank props.
I would love to see multiple little towns acros the hole map and to see them connect during time!

Outstanding build, as is your style mate! May I suggest adding an area that is on "the wrong side of the tracks"? After all, an American city wouldn't be itself without some sort of a hood. Also might want to add a trailer park to the mix. :-) You showed in Coniferia that you sure as hell know how to make realistic, gritty areas.
And I think you built houses facing the train station on the other side of the downtown, there seems to be a building there that might warrant a path or even some cafe for people waiting for their train.

To be fair my USA family live in northwest Wyoming in a towns called Cowley(population 650), Lovell(population 2300), and Byron(500). I learned that there are many many towns in the US that are very tiny so it would be realistic to have towns with less that 1000 population.
That sounds super cozy! What about you - do you live in a small town or a bigger city or something else entirely? ☺
@@Infrastructurist I grew up in municipality Malans, Switzerland which is population 2.300 and Chur(36.000). Now I go back and forth from Chur to La Spezia, Italia so pretty much small cities.
i feel like the schools need to be a little but bigger bc where i stay my hs got 300 sum students and its kinda full and our town its kinda like the same size of the old town plus 10 apartments condo things. Your town or city looks twice the size of mines but idk it probably just me but realistically the schools would be too small
Love the vids! What do you think about adding a working mine and a mining town near it. They are sprinkled throughout Colorado and are still operational

@infrastructurist It would also be cool to build a Victorian Hot Springs town. They were built for Victorians recovering from Consumption/Tuberculosis. Really beautiful and ornate bath houses and train stations
I think Barlow Hill or Easy Hill(sorry not sure) needs a few soundbarriers at the highway next to it. Its a wealthier area where they like their peace.
I enjoy this series so far i would like to see city hall and bus route in this american city.🙂

19:17 for a small town USA football field you are gonna need some more parking on Friday nights 😬
Not really - even with the _insane_ parking requirements in the US, where you need 1 parking space per 3 seats in the stadium, this is absolutely ebnough. The space directly at the stadium has 120 spaces and the secondary lot behind the building with the locker rooms, etc. holds another 84. In total that is 204 spaces, so it would only be below requirements if it has a regular attendance of more than 612 people. I highly doubt a town of less than 10k inhabitants draws that kind of crowd to an amateur football game...

My home town has about 6k population and and our football stadium hold up to 8500 😂
That highschool football field has no yellow goal posts and has Y shaped structures in the corners🤨🤔
