Old historic downtowns are dead because of Walmart, Dollar Stores, chain fast food restaurants, and chain gas stations which are usually in a separate portion of down town. The only thing still in the old part of small towns now are usually just flee markets with the upper stories usually abandoned along with a central court house where city government is at and an old Post Office. I know because I live in a small town surrounded by farmland and other small towns. Also old towns like mine still have one drive in theater.
This looks so good! I think all the episodes should be like this, and CS2 talk should be it's own thing.
I'm honestly considering doing that. Its a lot easier to get these out once a week this way and now that we've had more dev diary's come out I can use them in the background as b roll.
I find the whole thing about the two gas stations competing interesting - because that doesn't happen here in the UK, at all. Tax on fuel is like 60-120%, so while there's still money to be made on fuel, you can only undercut like a couple of pennies a liter, which tends to have them pretty evenly spaced out. Also, most are franchised to Jet, BP, Shell, etc rather than actually being owned by corpos; with the shop and pay usually franchised from someone else like M&S, Costa Coffee, Premier, etc. It's such a different business model. It has also preserved a lot of the older buildings, since it's just a franchise coming in rather than a corpo bulldozing the lot.
City Planner Plays explained why in one of his videos on why they will compete for the same corners traffic but I can't remember why.
When gas first hit $4 here in the states everyone was hunting for the lowest cost gas station. Two on the same corner in my home town ended up in a price war so bad that they ended up selling at a loss for a few days just to compete with one another. Caused a traffic jam the entire length of the city and made our off ramp for the highway un usable for days.
a historic fire and police statoins are common along with libraries and town halls and court houses, churches and banks are also common like in mt washington ky
Love the sky view it really looks like the western Michigan lake town that I grew up in, I might just add a less straight main road that maybe runs by the lake
Speaking of western Michigan, I'm actually drawing some inspiration from Ludington and Manistee!
@@CodiakTheKodiak check out Muskegon too for a similar larger lake town
Gotta love it, brand new hellscape tutorial just dropped
The car models make the game so much more realistic
They take a while to setup but man is it nice to see real & high texture cars.
The Salvation Army store I believe is Gilded Age. I don’t care about buying CS2 until guys like Smilies, Gilded Age, Bungalow Man, King Leno, and DieHardHunter takes everything they have for CS1 and makes them all available for CS2. If that’s even possible.
I watched this video and I built a realistic rural american downtown. Thanks Codiak 👍 also first
DONT LET HIM FOOL YOU YT COMMENTS THIS VIDEO HAS ONLY BEEN UP FOR 7MIN! (thank you for the algo boosting comment )
Nooo... We want more CS2 content
Where you from in Michigan? I'm from the Soo!
@@CodiakTheKodiak I really want to see someone recreate Sault Ste.Marie. I think it would be a cool build!
Why i never see military in sitie skylines 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Holland is an exception to your perception
Holland Michigan? If that's what you mean I would not consider a town of 34,000 people within the metro area of a city (Grand Rapids) to be small.
@@CodiakTheKodiak Yeah I got where you're coming from. While GR is big it is no Detroit or Chicago or many other big cities. Where are you from Rockford or Cadillac or even further north like Vanderbilt???
@@CodiakTheKodiakI grew up in north Muskegon and I would say you nailed some aspects of the classic small Michigan lake town
I like your builds I hope we can still do something similar in cs2
Me too. Every week I’m looking to see if there is any sign in the dev diaries or insights that says one way or another. Who knows what mods they will have at launch (I actually assume some will be 👀 since some modders are under NDA)
