  • Just got a new pair of Sync Gauges and figured i'd make a video showing how to sync the carbs on these old 2 stroke RZ's. Its pretty simple to do. It will work on a Yamaha Banshee too!! Just hook up the gauges and set the idle to the same vacuum on each gauge while running. Then twist the throttle a little, adjust the cables on either side, while running, and get the gauges to read the same!! Just make sure you have about 2-3mm of throttle free-play(adjust by throttle assembly), you want free-play so the slides in the carburetors land on the idle screws and not get held up from the cables being too tight, Also when you turn the handlebars the cables shouldn't tighten enough to raise the slides/idle up... Make sure your oil pump is set right too if you make any big adjustments!!
So you can adjust the slides manually without gauges, which is what we did before I filmed this video. You can get really close, I like to use hex wrenches (since there's different sizes) and use them as a feeler gauge.. At idle and while holding the throttle open slightly. You can see in the video that they weren't too bad, but if you're wanting them to be perfect you need a set of gauges.
There's a lot of crap gauges out there, ive seen some come with the needles all over the place(zero is at 10, other at -10 exc...), no valve to slow down the bouncing gauge to see an accurate reading. This one seems to be good with adjustable valves to slow the bouncing needles down so you can see what you're doing. They come with a bunch of threaded tubes you can screw one end into your carb and push the hoses on the barb end. Also extra O-Rings, hoses, case...

Love watching a carb synch, nothing gives more results than that.

besides pipes, jetting, ignition timing, port timing, squish and compression.

    Very interesting.
It certainly sounded noticeably better when you synchronized them.

Cool gauges... I used to race em....we used tongue depressors from the doctors office on the carb...super accurate in a pinch. Jus sain. The longer the length...the better the accuracy when you raise the throttle sleeve. Built over 15 in my life.. Still have 3 here in Canada.
No restrictions. Boysen is my friend.😁😁😁

Hi, I have a yamaha rd 350 ypvs. I've ridden it and got extremely high gas mileage. I drive 16L/ 100km !!! My top speed is like 90km/h. How do you let the carburetor settings reduce consumption? And what ratio of oil do you put in the petrol? I put 1:35, is that too much or not enough oil? I have the oil pump out and the oil going straight into the petrol. Thanks for the reply.

Each carb has a glass window and a mark on the slide to line up with the window, SIMPLE.

You’re 100% right, super simple!!! And most of the time it’s more than enough for most people, we’ve done it this way for years🔧
But measuring the flow of each carb is a lot more accurate🏁🏁
      Thanks for tuning in🤙

The windows on mine have gone opaque. Now what can I do ?

The toomey pipes seem to be the best at .075 rebore...any more and the mid range kicks out.
Stock pipes enjoy .050 the best. Can't remember the jet size.leave the pilot and 185's or 190's...can't remember. With stock cogs n chain...low end is super and p.band at 5.5 to 11k.
165k top end but who cares about that. You can shorten that with cogs and more short term gain.
P.s. the ' 72 y boot fits great and a k n n fits under the seat fine. Pretty cool help in carb. flow. Ifn ya care.😁

P.s. flow measurement on a 2 stroke is near impossible. On rz's at least.
Squish and temp. Are a wierd thing with them. A new triple cable smooths it out if carbs are sinc' ed. Sometimes the cable is the prob. Not the jets or flow..
