The Otley Run isn’t actually in the village of Otley. It starts on Otley Road in Headingley and takes you into Leeds city centre if you hit all 17 pubs
The drinking thing is pretty common and it's not illegal. The idea is that you give them little bits of alcohol to demystify it so that when they get into their late teens they aren't all that fussed about binge drinking. It happens all over Europe, including Ireland and the UK and while the laws are different in different countries, in many places it's perfectly legal to bring your kid into a pub and buy them a drink (usually during the day). It's illegal for the youngster to buy a drink but not illegal for them to consume alcohol under parental supervision.
This seems like one of those cute ideas that some mad old woman came up with once upon a time, but in reality, not enough is currently known about addiction to say whether or not it'd have any benefit.
We currently know that people can be more predisposed to addiction based on genetics, and I feel like the parents who are more casual around alcohol might themselves be more frequent drinkers/and therefore might be more predisposed to addiction themselves, so it sounds a bit like just rolling the dice, unless any actual studies have been done on the subject/published in a peer-reviewed medical journal. 🤷🏻
From Wales originally and always found it weird that South Wales would have the strong welsh accent but rarely spoke the language and north wales spoke the language and if from my area in Rhyl, would possibly sound like a scouser.
As for languages, took me years to speak swedish, my sons, 4 and 10, my 4 year old is fluent in english and speaks it better than a lot of children that are back in UK.

Alcohol for kids in small amounts is a Mediterranean thing. Big with the Italians and the Portuguese do it as well, usually just wine. My Nan used a thimble of brandy in bottles for babies when teething to numb the pain though…explains a bit 😅

The only other one I know of that’s like The Otley Run is The Bermondsey Beer Mile which is in London and I think it’s like 22 stops

I agree with Ste on most things, but as someone who played and coached both sports at a pretty high level, Football is a fluid sport and complex and technical in its own way. American Football is static, but far more complex to coach and teach kids due to vast differences and even greater number of systems played on both sides of the ball. The homogeneity of the NFL and PL are similar with teams employing variations of the same 3-4 systems on both sides of the ball. American College Football and lower-level Professional/Non-Leauge are similar in the vastly different systems you could see week to week.
if youre talking about both sports including real football then i doubt you played and coached at a high level in michigan of all places in the states. LMAO
@@weaponX14 I went to Michigan (I didn't grow up there and don't live there now) and played American Football (the winningest program in the history of college football) and went on to coach in college afterward. I went through Olympic Development for Football. I'm not claiming to be a professional-level footballer, but I was good, and I'd hazard to bet better than you've ever been at either sport.
