- In this video I walk you through how to repair a severely damaged truck bed corner. I was able to complete this repair with nothing more than basic hand tools, a little bit of time, a bit of ingenuity, and (when I get around to it) a can of body filler. This is my first time ever doing body work of this sort, and my first time welding body panels back together.

@@Chadlistentome You deserve it! That looked like it took a long time of going slow and steady. Not hurrying through. I've got both a tailgate that is messed up and I can't even get the new latch I installed to open it. I have to leave the panel behind the tailgate open to expose the latch cable. And we have a front passenger panel that is dented in. I doubt I can do anything about either. But your video just reminded me there is more than one way to skin a cat too.
@@cackleberryfarm4598 Thanks bro. It’s easy to get frustrated when you’re teaching yourself new skills. Wiring is definitely my crux. This truck was actually bought so I can do just that. Several years later it’s still not finished. But it does run with the LS 4l80, and I did cut the frame down to a short bed. I’ve had many roadblocks along the way, so it still isn’t complete. The 90% is finished but the 10% that takes the longest still needs to be done. I appreciate your support!
@@cackleberryfarm4598 I also want to add, you will get your issues resolved if you keep at it. You might not get your tailgate how you want it now because of frustration. If I can give you any advice, stop when you get frustrated and revisit your situation after you’ve calmed down then go back and kick its ass. You can do anything you set your mind too. Good luck bro.
when the repair guy at my local auto repair was backing my car out of the shop after replacing front brakes, he bashed in the bumper and rear panel, very similar to the one you fixed in this video (although my car is a 2006, a lot lighter metal than that '88) I can't get the local collision shop to fix it, so I may be going down this road. Thanks for posting this- a come-along with a clamp and aircraft cable- genius!

Brother; really, really good video. Very explanatory, very good. I wish if could show you in a picture the problem that I have with my 73 chevy pick up on the left corner of the bed. Very similar to your situation but I think my fender it is a little bit more shrinked than yours but you gave me pretty good idea what to do with it. A Mustang drunk driver hit it about 1am on oct/29 while my truck was parked by my house. Crazy.

In the same spot right now I can’t get over the difference in metal on older vehicles to these new ones I can literally beat on the dent for hrs and it doesn’t look like it has moved at all

a tree had hit my 1989 gmc truck on the roof and the trunk rail. can you help with any tips to fix?
Eek. That sound rough. If it was me, I would weld on a tab with a hole in it then hook a come along to the damaged area and high in a tree. Then very slowly pull and hammer the crown, pull hammer the crown and continue. I’m no body man though. Just remember if you do that, the welded on tabs can break loose and come back at your face and really hurt you. So it’s something you have to do at your own risk. I actually need to make a similar repair on my K30 this fall. Once it cools down I plan on making more videos, I’ll put it on my list of ideas.

Just a cheap harbor freight cable come along.
What was the original color of the truck?🤔
Definitely red. The entire truck is being taken down to steel, as we speak. The paint is flaking off the original red lacquer.
What type of cut off wheel did you use
Just a regular cheap harbor freight 4.5” cut off wheel.
