Now if that artist has to try and make your painting look closer to the Mona Lisa, than it will take them more times to go over your mistakes and sometimes they will have to start over on a fresh canvas from the beginning. I used to be a detailer at a pretty big dealership here in Omaha. The dealership's contracted PDR company would sometimes use one of our bays if we had room and the body shop nextdoor didn't.
    Watching those guys work was like watching a master sculptor creating his next masterpiece. The sheer focus and concentration in their faces was something I'd never seen. They'd bring in a hail damaged car that looked like the surface of a golf ball, and make it look like it was brand new. Of course, they'd wash those cars themselves after they were done. We shidiot apes weren't going to be the ones to ruin the hours of painstaking effort they'd just put in.
    PDR is truly an art form, and it takes a lot of time and patience to be good at it. These dudes performed miracles.

Really great to see these useful topics, it doesn't matter if it could be common knowledge to the hardcore out there, you guys have a great teaching and presenting style so its always useful information even if it might not be new information. Thanks!

    • @RoguePC4U
      @RoguePC4U Před 5 měsíci

      As a pro myself, this is a tough question to answer. PDR Training (where we all start) is expensive and meant for anyone wanting to do this for a living. If you only want to do this part time, as a hobby, or just for your own repairs - it would be overkill on the budget. And PDR is difficult to learn. You need to spend years just to get "decent" at it.

    Having said that, for a first car/junk project, anyone should take some time to learn some of this. Best part is that while you develop a little “bond” with the vehicle, you learn some things that probably will be beneficial down the line when you have your next vehicles. None of this DIY stuff should be overlooked as it can be great for learning new things that might save you in a pinch and doing some TLC on an vehicle will up it’s value not only for you but also for the next owner if you sell, and yes, it might be bittersweet if it’s final days are as nails, at least you learned some tricks for the next car👍🏼

    I am a super perfectionist and would feel comfortable doing this myself. I got rid of a huge dent on the box of my truck from when my mom hit the side of the garage door years back. I bought a suction cup for carrying glass and used that on a large portion but had to tap it from behind with a rubber mallet to get rid of a wrinkle. That said I should have made a tool like that out of rear or some 1/2 round stock and tapped the end to make it accept inserts I could make for what I need.

    I had some minor dents that I wanted repaired before I plasti-dipped my 2000 4Runner a year ago. My goal was never perfection, I just wanted the reduce the dents enough that they wouldn't show through the plastidip, so I bought a kit on Amazon and went about it very carefully. It was a humbling experience, but I saved some money and didn't ruin any body panels, so I'm calling it a win. HOWEVER, it if weren't for my unique situation, I never would've DIY'd this and absolutely would've hired a pro.
