"You would know if you watched Frozen!"
Let it go, Jeanie. Let it go.
ayyyyyyyyyyyy same never watched frozen either, and its staying that way
that's a good one
@@ChriSX13 i did once, it was against my will, and I never need to again. Stay strong brother
Not going to watch it either. I refuse, plus it could never live up to the hype that was built up in my mind.
@@ChriSX13 Why? It’s honestly not even bad
$450 in 1963 is worth $4593.12 in 2024 . Adjusting for inflation.
That had to be absolute top of the line back then.
At least those appliances would last 50+ years unlike the junk today which is lucky to last 5 years.
r/hedidthemath
it would be top of the line today
with inflation that fridge would have cost just over 5k usd in todays money. the final cost on that receipt is $497 ($5,014.89).
Yep, I've just been shopping for a new fridge and for that price, I can get spherical ice, folding shelves, a see-thru door that I tap, a split door (for quick access to stuff on the door shelves), french doors on the fridge, a bottom freezer and a middle drawer that can be either a freezer or a fridge or a chiller. And a 65" OLED TV.
3:42 Hey guys, for the ones that wanna know about the kid found adrift on the lake. The dad left him unsupervised for a little while while the kid was swimming and holding to a rope, but a fast current of water pulled him away and he ended up moving far from the boat (in the lake that gets you to the lake it seems) and when dad realized he couldn't chase after him fast enough without running over the kid with the boat, he yelled at him to just swim to the coast downstream and he would catch him there. He went ahead and stopped the boat on a side and ran to see if he could see the kid that was already out of the water and he panicked a little more since he couldn't see the kid. I saw the story somewhere else. From what I know the dad was not charged for neglect, in case you wondered about that too. 😉
Good. To be honest, riptides and fast currents can sneak up on anyone and if the kid wasn't trained in how to handle it, it wouldn't have mattered what the dad did. At least the dad was sensible enough to make sure the kid had a life jacket. If he hadn't, there's a solid chance that kid wouldn't be around.
@@akun50 Yeah, good life jacket meant he'd be fine.
@GiselleGBBennett Are you sure? As the story i saw, the guy that saved the kid, witnessed the dad leave him there as a punishment and came to the rescue and reported the dad to the cops.

Rally drivers are the ones who have 2 people in the car. One with a set of instructions and the driver who does not even need to look at the road. He just follows the instructions from the co-driver.
The communication between co-driver and driver is so good that they can navigate a road with near no vision and still do it at 100+ mph.
Terminology is like "Long easy right, 35, into hard left, long straight 1,1,5 90 meters." Which would translate to "long curve to the right that is 35 mph and exiting into a very sharp left turn. After the left turn there is a long straight that you can do up to 115 mph and its 90 meters long."
So the short hand is the drivers instruction in the shortest form that the driver can be fed information and still have accurate information.
And rallycross has only the driver and much smaller tracks
Then you had group B where they were doing this in cars that made more horsepower than modern sportscars, weighed lighter than hatchbacks and spectators were mere inches away from touching the side mirrors at each corner, straight and jump. Rally drivers are arguably one of the most talented motorsport drivers in the world.
@@goldie8501 their spectators are some of the most insane people around as well.. :D
25:17 | It is believed that the black plague originated with fleas that transmitted the disease to rats who transmitted it to humans. Furthermore, the vast majority of people who died from the plague was from person-to-person transmission as people in the medieval period did not fully understand how infectious diseases was transmitted, and how practicing good hygiene and isolating infected people could have dramatically reduced the death toll.
The Black Plauge was by yoh knows how poisoning the wells.

13:22 There was a demonstration sport called speed skiing at the 1992 Olympics, where competitors ski straight down a steep slope (no turns to bleed off speed) to see who can go the fastest. They hit speeds over 200 km/h (130-140 mph) - faster than the terminal velocity of a skydiver. The sport was dropped from the Olympics when one of the competitors crashed and was killed.
You can’t go more than terminal velocity without aid. There’s more friction on skis than free falling.
@@mikhar Yea. I think they mean faster than the terminal velocity of the classic skydiving belly down arms and legs out position. The fastest head down limbs tucked in skydiving speed dive is like 500+ Km/h, no way to beat that on a slope.
Intentionally misleading way to present the information. That only applies to a skydiver in a flat, belly down position. An actual human body in a full dive freefall can hit 300 km/h pretty easily, and the speed skydiving world record is like 530 km/h.

The Jeannie surprise clip was the most wholesomly adorable thing that I've seen in ages ❤
Jeannie, $497 in 1963 is $5070 today after you adjust for inflation. Also, the curved edges needed to let those trays turn out reduce the usable volume inside the fridge. The reason modern fridges have drawers which slide straight out is to maximize storage space for the size of the fridge.
Also energy efficiency. I am thinking the electric bill for that is probably higher than modern fridges.
Exactly. My first thought was like "fork, lass - whadya talking about? That'd be more like five grands in today's money..." Looks I was pretty much spot-on ;-)
So basically the cost of a good modern fridge and freezer combo….😅
That statement makes me glad she didn't become a doctor.

He also admitted this wasn't the first time he'd left the kid in the lake and driven off, and said it would probably happen again. The kid was apparently afraid to call 911 because the father had punished him for letting someone call 911 on a previous occasion. The kayaker passed all that on to the police and they're apparently having Child Protective Services look into the father and the way he's taking care of his son. " He's already out. " Jeannie. Mein freund. The fights don't happen that slowly. It's easy to watch it in slow motion and go " Oh, they should've stopped. " - but if you're in a fight, you gotta remember it's not like a video game where you get a health bar or an action prompt telling you to initiate a finisher.
They... may recoil from a hit then come back and wallop you with the momentum.
In MMA, it's legal if it's above the belt and the person is still conscious. He didn't knock that person out, so he kept swinging. They were still considered " in the match " - but once they turned away and showed " I'm done " that's when he stopped swinging after that knee. Notice he was following really close behind his opponent to be ready to sock him in the back of the head, but the ref was already walking up to call the match because the guy had clearly begun walking away nursing his head like " I'm done. "
18:50 due to how extreme the hike is, there are bodies left behind in Everest. Not because they lack humanity, but it's really hard to recover bodies up there up there, let alone save a living person. So yea, carrying a person on your back while climbing down on Everest is actually something.

For winter you can make a small shed with insulation and use 100w incandecent light bulb (with an idicator light so you know when light burns out) as a heater to keep shed above freezing try to bury you pipe atleast 6 ft or depth of freeze .
Install an electric pipe heater in middle of line to allow you to unfreeze line incase freeze up happens.
Also you can let your water run slowly (drip) to prevent freeze up on coldest days.
When pipes freeze , they split , so make sure they don't freeze !
Keep spare hose and pump parts for repairs and maybe even a back up pump . If repairs can't be made you might be without water until spring when ground thaws out .

Crazy thing about rats/mice for lab testing; for a long time in the US there was basically only one major supplier for all the labs in the country. Because of the way they were being bred these rats/mice wound up with really strong genes that were quite good at self-repair and had longer telomeres (important DNA stuff). The reason rats/mice are used is due to similarities in their DNA to our own, but the ones used in labs for possibly decades were essentially super rats/mice, so a massive amount of the research done on them and the results of that research could be compromised to varying degrees. In practical terms, such a compromise could result in medications or treatments that are far too powerful OR could see things being dismissed as essentially harmless when they actually wouldn't be...
16:04 That's $4793 in today's dollars... So nope, not that's it, it's a very expensive fridge.
That's not that expensive. Back then, people who weren't currently in college could save the majority of their income and afford things like that in a matter of years. It was considered customary for a newlywed couple to purchase several high quality appliances with which to furnish their new home.
@@TheReaverOfDarkness Median household income in 1963 was $3,000 (gross, before taxes, etc.). That one appliance at $475 (before tax, etc.) would have been 15.8% of their total yearly income (more, considering tax, delivery, and only net [not gross] income). Modern median household income is $74,580. The equivalent fraction would be $11,800 for a refrigerator.
@@dawnfire82 Yeah and their living expenses were like 10-20% of their income, so saving that up was merely an exercise in restraint, and little else. A man could furnish a house on minimum wage while going to college.

Yeah, back in the day there were some pretty fantastically engineered appliances, but the market trend for lower prices and higher profits got rid of all that. Now it's the minimum cost thing that will still get bought, and then need replacing within 1-2 years after the warranty expires.
26:26 -- Yes and no. Mostly no, but technically, yes. Big Diomede Island is part of Russia, and Little Diomede Island is part of America, and they are 2.5 miles apart. Mainland Russia is 55 miles from mainland Alaska at their closest points. The Diomede Islands are way out in the middle of the Bering Strait. So you can see an island Russia owns from an island America owns, but you can't see the Russian or American mainland from either of those islands.
There's a small village of the maritime branch of the Chukchi people living on Little Diomede Island in the village of Diomede. They split off from the reindeer Chukchi people, who lived in Siberia. The Russians (when it was the Soviet Union) moved the Siberian Chukchi off their ancestral lands and forced them to farm on collective farms, and a lot of them died off. The Americans basically left the Chukchi alone, except they did offer to build homes for them, and they did set up some weather monitoring (and probably radio traffic spying) gear on the island. No one lives on Big Diomede Island, but the Russians do have a "weather monitoring" station there.
