  • This is a very sophisticated, very complex vehicle. Beyond the abundant luxury - more on some of that later - the Bentayga has a serious amount of technology that is a new level for Bentley.
    Read the complete first drive reviews at www.autofocus.ca/reviews/first... and vvuzz.com/index.php/2016/02/08...
    The drivetrain starts with Bentley’s famous W12, but this engine is all new, it’s still twin turbocharged, and here it makes 600 horsepower and 664 pounds of torque, plus it’s fitted with cylinder deactivation for better efficiency. More importantly, it does zero to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and tops out at 301 km/h. Yes, this SUV posts supercar numbers, but don’t forget that Bentleys are all about effortless performance.
    If you’re familiar with Bentleys, you’ll be at home inside the cabin. There is endless leather, wool and wood veneer. Everything you touch and interact with has an ultra premium feel. The seats are near perfect and visibility is great, as well. The list of driver assist features is almost endless, as you’d expect. There are optional Android-based tablets available for rear seat passengers and of course the Bentayga has wifi on board. The optional top sound system is by Naim, of course.
    We’d need an hour long documentary to cover the abundance of luxury, technology and performance features of this Bentley, but I hope this quick look at the Bentayga conveys much of what I’ve experienced behind the wheel.

    I'm actually considering purchase of either the Bentayga or the Range Rover SV Autobiography Supercharged. I've spent a lot of time with both. Most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two interiors for fit and finish with the Bentley perhaps slightly ahead. The Bentley performance is slightly better but at the levels both of them reach it's academic for most people. You won't hear Rangie owners complaining that their car will only do 155mph. It's offroad where the Bentley falls seriously behind. The wading depth is only half that of the Rangie which can run through 39 inches. The low range transfer box provides the Rangie with seriously better off road torque - you won't see the Bentley being taken over the rock climbs that the Rangie copes with routinely. And worst of all the Bentley has no effective spare wheel. I've owned a lot of cars over the decades and in most of them I've had to change a wheel at some time. The Rangie has a full size matching alloy wheel. The Bentley has a deflated tyre, you have to pump it up, and no place to put the flat you just removed. Do you really want to put a dirty muddy tyre into your luxury stowage area? In any event this will be full of the family luggage won't it, these things never happen in a convenient way. In my country you can be 300 miles or more from the nearest town, you need a proper spare. The Bentley will sell like hot cakes and so it should, it's a wonderful car. Just don't take it off road.

      @BrianMakse  Před 7 lety +2

      The market has spoken. It's sold out for two years. Also, did you watch this review? I drove the Bentayga in the dunes, off road, and on a racing circuit. Wicked versatility.

    • @501pj
      @501pj Před 7 lety

      Thanks Brian, my concerns here in Australia are no full size spare ( we can be hundreds of miles from civilisation and a tyre shop) and the wading depth for casual flood waters. I'm still considering it though. I enjoy your reports.

    Brian, you should be a car salesman because you just made me love the Bentayga. I haven't paid that much attention to it until this video. I never thought I would ever see a SUV that I think looks better than the BMW X5 but Bentayga might be the first in my opinion.

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  Před 8 lety +2

      +MrGrownman455 I'm not so sure I'm ready to be a car salesman! The Bentayga is pretty darn amazing though and the design details are stunning.

    Fantastic video brian. That color combination is timeless. British racing green or some other green? Love what I saw of the interior. Hopefully this new stuff gets into the GT's as well, they seem to be woefully lacking in modern tech, which is inexcusable for a car of their caliber.

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  Před 8 lety +3

      +yalej Thanks! They call this Verdant. You can count on much of what you see here going into the next updated Continental and Flying Spur. They're actually not too bad, but the driver assist tech of the Bentayga will make the big difference.

    • @yalej
      @yalej Před 8 lety +1

      +Brian Makse Good news. I was thinking of the comparison of the tech in a new S63 coupe compared to a GT, for example.

      @BrianMakse  Před 8 lety +1

      +TheQuestionMark When you only drive great cars on first drives, there's not much to be critical about. Mileage? Buyers don't care. Styling? It's subjective in the first place and the market has spoken - the first year's production is already sold out. We'll see when I have to live with it for a week.

    Just want to show some support from the UK for a great video.
    No doubt there will be a 14 year old along soon to say how things have been done wrong and that Bentley need to listen to them, but not before saying how a GT-R can go faster 0-60 and it will be a big disaster. :p

      +Brian Makse yeah I just think it's weird they didn't make it fit on the GT3R, instead of using the CGT parts bin piece. anyway, nice video...I'm really starting to like the Bentayga.

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  Před 8 lety

      +ChasLaw3 I agree with you there. One can spec a wonderfully tasteful Bentayga, but there are so many options and customisations that we're going to see some - ahem - interesting colour combinations when they're on the road.

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  Před 8 lety

      Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. And the Bentley's already sold out into its second year of production.

    • @timmietz
      @timmietz Před 8 lety

      +Brian Makse if it is truly sold out, has more to do with the income inequality and that it only has only one (Range Rover Vogue and Autobiography) direct competitor. As a car guy, I would never pay $200K+ for what basically Audi Q7 with a big motor and a really nice interior. The ugliness fact, and yes it is a FACT, has to do that it neither has the finesse and presence of a Bentley Mulsanne nor the brutality of an LM002 or even a G65. And yes, folks in Miami Beach, Boca, OC and similar places will keep buying these for the first 2 years or so just because it is an "IT" car/truck just like were buying SC430, 650i convertibles, flying spur, ghosts, G63 and other "it" cars of the moment. As a marketing guy - I appreciate the effort. As a car guy - I am disgusted. It is what it is.

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  Před 8 lety

      +Tim Tursonoff It's sold out well into MY2017, mate, and it's a global product that's not particularly an American thing. It's a lazy argument to suggest it's a tarted up Q7. Everybody's got an opinion, of course, which is what makes the world go 'round, but perspective is everything.

    • @timmietz
      @timmietz Před 8 lety

      +Brian Makse one more thing: I bet that the fact that section 179 is back in full this year and this thing qualifies for it due the ridiculous weight, has a lot to do with the fact that they have been able to sell a few of these quick.

    • @timmietz
      @timmietz Před 8 lety

      +Brian Makse global market my ass! I'm willing to bet that in the first 12 months of sales, US will account for 60%+ of global sales, of which California and Florida will account for 45%+. "Global market" was the target 4-5 years ago when they started planning for it. But now - there is only one market that really counts.
